I’m starting a new thread as the old one was getting a bit unwieldy. I know I’ve posted this before, but I didn’t really get a body count, so please read and answer the questions at the end of this post:
Room rates range from from the $24.99 single special out on the highway (not recommended ) to $170-200 for a suite that sleeps six and includes 2 double beds, a sleeper-sofa, and a jacuzzi. None of the hotels I checked into offer larger suites; neither, due to fire code, do they offer roll-away beds. The Holiday Inn offers but cannot guarantee adjoining suites.
Here’s what I need to know so I can get some room reservations going:
Is there a 75% chance you are staying overnight?
Do you want to stay in your own room?
Do you want to stay in a suite with the rest of us?
Do you think $$40-60/per person is too expensive?
If you are the 7th person, do you want to bring a sleeping bag and sneak into the room illegally?
Anyone else have suggestions?
If I don’t hear from you by Friday the 13th you’re on your own for accomodations, so a speedy response is appreciated
Is there a 75% chance you are staying overnight?
-No.
Do you want to stay in your own room?
-Should I stay, no, it doesn’t matter to me.
Do you want to stay in a suite with the rest of us?
-Should I stay, SURE! The more the- Ummm, nevermind.
Do you think $$40-60/per person is too expensive?
-I suppose not. Then again, I’m probably not staying.
If you are the 7th person, do you want to bring a sleeping bag and sneak into the room illegally?
-Although I’ve been informed that it won’t eliminate costs, sure.
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend. I am extremely busy both at work and IRL, which is also why I’m not on the boards as much. Hope you guys have fun and keep me in mind for next time
No, Silver Fire, it will not just be the three of you, because two more of us (imthjckaz and me) live in St. Cloud and do not need motel rooms. And I do know a couple of people here in St. Cloud who lurk.
sailor, is there actually a chance that you might come here also, or are you just funnin’ sandyr?
sailor is most definitely funnin’ me ;). Plus I don’t think his boat could make it up the St. Lawrence Seaway and down to Mpls. and back up to St. Cloud
Does anyone know how to get a hold of rysdad? I thought he wanted to come up here, too, but his email address isn’t in his profile…
Hehehe… Weather so bad, no one can go home for a week.
I got stranded at the Grand Casino in Hinckley for a week and half when I was in 6th grade because of snow. That was probably the most fun I’ve ever had with my family.
I need a street address or directions to O’Hara’s. Never having been to St. Cloud, I wouldn’t know where to begin looking for it.
Also, my husband will most likely be coming. I have less than a month to give him a crash course in the Straight Dope. I plan to start him off on the first book, move to Triumph, and finish with the Boards. Sadly, our local library doesn’t carry Cecil’s books. Maybe we can get a petition going to change that.
The online maps I’ve found stink - the directions they give are unneccessarily complicated, so here are…
Directions from the south:
Take I-94 to the MN-15 exit. Take MN-15 north to 3rd St. (It’s the 3rd stoplight and a little more than four miles from the exit.) Take a right. Follow 3rd St. east to the first stoplight. Stay in the right lane. O’Hara’s is on your right - can’t miss it.
Directions from the east:
Take MN-95 to MN-23 OR MN-23 west to 33rd Ave. Take a right. Stay in the left lane. O’Hara’s is just before the next stoplight on the left. Or you can take 23 to 15, take a right, take a right at 3rd St., and follow the directions above.
Hotel info to follow; as so few people are actually going to show, I plan on making reservations for a regular hotel room, although I will also keep an eye out for an inexpensive suite - anyone have problems with that? If your hubby is coming, msrobyn, perhaps I should reserve two rooms?
people who would rather not stay at a hotel may stay with us (imthjckaz and myself). We will have two bedrooms empty that weekend, because it is the alternate weekend; Bob’s kids visit every other weekend and every Sunday.
I’ve made reservations for the Ramada for the night of the 11th. It’s a small suite, with fridge and something, for $80 + tax. The room sleeps four, so I also reserved a rollaway bed in case more than four spend the night.
It kind of sounds like Mr. and Mrs. msrobyn and NuVo are really the only people who need a room, but if I get liquored up enough I may come along for the night
The hotel itself is located in a strip mall area, so it’s not exactly pleasing to the eye, but on the plus side it’s within walking distance of a liquor store/grocery store (Rainbow) and Sunday brunch and a really good restaurant.
I can no longer say this. However, I can say that I will try my best to be there. If I do make it, there is no chance that I will be staying the night. As far as I can tell right now anyway.
