Called the National Park Service. They do not have any picnic facilities for large groups.
However, I called the Borough of Gettysburg, and have reserved a picnic pavilion at the borough park on Long Lane. It costs $45.00, so if y’all want to reimburse us, it’ll be about a buck or so a head. I’ll be sending a check out in the mail today.
Mingo County Park in Washington County allows alcohol if you have a pavilion and you fill out the little alcohol permit thing. The only rules are that no underage drinking can occur (obviously), the alcohol can only be beer, and it cannot leave the pavilion.
sigh I’ve given up on trying to come up with something creative or interesting foodwise to bring. Just sign me up for cookies. I’ll make a few batches of different kinds and people can eat what they like. If there are leftovers I’m sure Pun’s family will take care of that, no problem.
Will we be getting official directions via post or email sometime before the fest?
Will we be playing games or having other outside activities?
Should I wear shorts? Tennis shoes? Flip flops? A hat? A bib maybe for the chili?
Ooh, games! Good idea, fizzes. I have a frisbee, softball, glove, and bat for outdoors stuff, and poker, Fluxx (2nd ed.), and Pictionary for indoor games. Who has a badmiton/volleyball set? And does anybody have Cranium Command? Battle of the Sexes? other party games?
Also, I understand several people claim a strong skill at Trivial Pursuit. Would one of you please bring a set?
It would be very nice if someone could bring a Scrabble set as well. I know supervenusfreak is incurably addicted to the online version, and I’m sure there are others so afflicted.
Dear one, beloved, angel, light of my life…my brother and I will both be there.
Now, you remember stufing the fridge with the leftovrs of fifteen pounds of birthday food from last weekend? Remember that stuff (other than the cabbage and potatoes, which are iiiiick when cooked that way) going in a day, maybe two?
And my brother’s going too. If the platter survives unbitten I think you’ll be able to claim victory.
We have the Pop Culture trivial pursuit, which sucks something fierce (I haven’t gone through and personally ratified all the answers, but “person who invented the high-five” doesn’t strike me as all that scientific a question, nor am I betting a lot of research went into the answer), so we will probably not bring it. Someone must bring Boggle so I can continue my Dopefest Domination (hey, you try beating Polycarp and Skulldigger at ANYTHING twice). Might be amusing to play twister too, just because of all the stuffy adults what’ll be there:D
A volleyball set consists largely of a ball and net, yes? fizzy and I have tennis rackets (2) and something like 3 tennis balls (with this crowd, anything involving balls must be pre-emptively qualified), so if there’s a court and people fancy it … and I suppose we could probably pick up some cheap vball set from Mal-Wart next time we’re there.
I do have a Lord of the Rings movies trivial pursuit game that I can bring as well as I’m still thinking of some kind of food. I tend to keep a cooler in the car, so cold food isn’t a problem.
If there’s a charcoal grill, it is possible to do 'Smores while the fire is going, before the other food is cooked.
To make sure that we all get our questions answered without driving the poor Parks and Rec people crazy, I will go to the park and look at the pavilion sometime between the time I get back and Memorial Weekend. I will also research directions and post them.
I’ve got one of the Genus Edition Trivial Pursuit games that I can bring; it’s best that Airman and I not play against each other, however.
Count us in with the games. I can bring LOTR Risk, Yahtzee (my wife’s favorite), and poker & chips. I have a couple of tournament style frisbees as well.
Please let us know if there is an electric outlet we can use at the park. If anyone else is crazy enough, I’ll bring a computer and a network hub for multiplayer computer games (assuming electric.)
