OK… I hate to use the “no true Scotsman” argument here, but chili does not have beans.

Robin

To bean, or not to bean: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the kitchen to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous flatulence,
Or to take Bean-O against a sea of trouser growls,
And by opposing end them?
:stuck_out_tongue:

Sure it does … just depends on who’s making it.

Hahahahaha…

pun, REAL chili does not have beans. Hence the invocation of the “no true Scotsman” fallacy.

Robin

And, of course, Airman could care less about this. I, OTOH, care deeply.

Robin

I am pleased at the prospect of no-beans chili. I’ve been around some of you people before… not to mention my own predisposition to produce excess gas as of late. I’ll eat beans at home, thanks.

Date and time? We’re on for June 19?

dwc just clued me off about this thread. If it’s not too late count me in, I’ll figure out something to bring along.

Gas?

Heh.

I’m bringing Kimchi!

I figure a gallon, maybe.

Tris

So how would I go about getting fresh (i.e. not pre-frozen, which our local grocery store has) White Castle? Is there any in the area?

The store finder on the White Castle website isn’t finding any within 50 miles of Gettysburg, and there are no Pennsylvania options on their regional finder. New Jersey and Northeast Ohio are the two closest areas.

My local grocery store, Clemens, has a sale on ketchup, mustard, and pickle relish running through tomorrow – at ONE dollar an item! How much of this do we need?

I think they still have apple juice, too, so I’ll swap out some soda and get some juice.

Juice is good. I don’t drink carbonated anything, being as my digestive system has been rebelling lately.

I’m re-thinking pie. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I’m still thinking up an idea of what I’m going to bring.

I just realized I’ve never had to feed Dopers, so I don’t know what they eat.

Can you buy nerd chow? Or do you have to make it?

I figure something more portable than pie would be good. Cookies or something. Have we got the food covered? Should I stick with desserty type things?

Dopers eat munchies!

(at least that’s what the “old” definition says…)

Has anyone thought about a new meeting place? We definitely have more people signed up than four picnic tables will allow.

I think Ms. Robyn is supposed to research alternatives – but I think she’s down in Texas visiting her folks – back this week sometime? (I haven’t chatted with her in a couple of days.)

You’re in, man-the count is now 44! When you figure out what you’re bringing, let me know so I can update the main list. TYVM

I am in Texas, and will be here for another week and a half. (Someone, please save me from my parents!)

Thanks to the joys of the Internet and all, I will be making some phone calls to Gettysburg to talk to the nice Parks people to find out if there are other alternatives for large groups.
