I think that they don’t feel a whole lot of need to recruit outside of the state. 1 CA, 2 CO, 1 SC, 1 AR is what their current roster had that weren’t Texans.
It’s debateably the best HS football in the country, and most of those kids dream of playing for the Horns (though many want to go to OU or TAMU).
The most impressive statistic I have seen about the Longhorns’ class is the following.
They made 30 offers, had 25 official visits, and signed all 25 of those recruits. That’s efficiency at an unheard of rate. I wish Jake Matthews had been a part of the class. I also wish Lache Seastrunk wasn’t such a head case because Texas could have used his talent.
Mack Brown has recruited defensive players very well especially the past several years (years before Muschamp). You are way off base even mentioning it in the same sentence as Mackovic’s recruiting. Brown may have had trouble with linebackers early on in his tenure, but he’s recruited secondary and defensive line great from the get go. Muschamp gets the credit for Jordan Hicks this year though.
This is crazy. Texas has absolutely no need to recruit nationally.
Seriously. Cal fans were slashing their wrists and demanding Tedford’s head on a platter (or at least those of his assistants…he may personally be spared) and wondering if anybody would even bother accepting a scholarship from such a pathetic loser. And then they snag a top 20 class.
I don’t understand why a bowl season would make much difference. If a West Coast athlete wants to play in a BCS conference, he either plays for the PAC-10 or travels at least 1500 miles away. (and that is if he goes to Colorado).
if the parents want to go to the games, they better have a lot of vacation time to spare.
At the conference level, sure. At the team level - Cal fans anguish was over how their mediocre season + bowl loss would translate into their own signings…not giving a rat’s ass about the rest of the Pac-10.
