Looks like more of the same from the SEC. 5 teams in the top 9, 8 teams in the top 25.
I have a real hard time caring about this. I prefer the pro game to college and high school football is practically spam to me.
It’s a bit interesting to see the Pac-10 so strong after such a miscarriage of a bowl season. And the Big 10 pretty poor after a good bowl season. Surprising that Ohio state isn’t in the top 25. I guess they really loaded for bear but missed all the big Game, and didn’t have enough safety offers out.
(Although ESPN and Scout have a much different view of it.)
All in all Michigan(the only one that really matters) did a fair amount better than a team with two losing seasons deserves, and got some impact secondary players which was their major suckitude this year. They got another good QB to try out. Maybe he can hold onto the ball despite the vicious breeze of a D-lineman running past.
I’m not really that much of a whiner and given up on Forcier, but after 5 losses in two seasons directly attributable to pathetic fumbles, they do need some ball holding skills.
You know, I sounded way too snarky, but I suppose that’s my way of saying “meh”.
Recruiting rankings are so flawed that they are meaningless except at the extreme margins. It’s pretty easy to pick out the can’t-miss prospects and it’s pretty easy to pick out the guys who have no chance at the next level. Recruiting gurus do a really bad job at figuring out all the guys in between, who are ultimately the guys that matter. Are my team’s 2, 3, and 4 star guys better than your team’s 2, 3, and 4 star guys? That’s what we’ll find out over the next 4-5 years.
For example, there is currently a 53 place difference between how Rivals (83) and Scout (30) rank my team’s (Wisconsin) class. Neither are probably accurate, and it doesn’t matter anyway. I trust the coaching staff’s evaluations 1000x more than the schmoes who work for Rivals and Scout.
But, to answer the thread, I think my team did great. From what I’ve read, I have no doubt that in five years we’ll look back and it will be, retrospectively, one of the top 10-20 classes in the country in terms of productivity.
I especially like that UW got nearly all the guys they wanted in state (would have loved to lose the “nearly”, but things happen), kept the South Florida pipeline open (Wisconsin has pulled a surprising number of guys from there, and embarrassing Miami in the bowl game this year shouldn’t hurt that), and got some really solid prospects out of the Northeast, which has been a really productive area for Wisconsin. So yeah, I’m happy.
I don’t understand the math. USC got one more 5 star than UF and that outranks four 4 stars and 4 3 stars? Bullshit.
Apparently the rivals site is constantly updating. USC is #1 right now.
Zakalwe, The ranking is volume rather than quality. UF has signed 28 players versus USC’s 20 players. that is why Florida was ahead. USC’a average is far better.
I guess even Kiffin couldn’t screw that up.
Since USC will probably get suspended soon enough, what with past misconduct and then the hiring of the idiot from Rocky Top, I figure my Gators did well enough. It’s anyway going to be at least a couple of years before they’ll contend for the top spot again, losing TD Jebus and a ton of defensive talent. I expect that Spikes, Dunlap and Haden will all go in the top half of the first round. Aaron Hernandez could be another first round pick, and at least half of the offensive line will go in the top half of the draft as well.
89th.
Considering we’ve won all of three games in the past two seasons I can’t expect much though. Diamonds in the rough is how we’ve always done it.
Michigan State got 29th. About average for us, I guess. Got a 5 star DE who never thought about playing anywhere else. I see we’re much more competitive in Ohio these days, I think Dantonio can take some credit for that. I don’t put a whole lot of stock in these ratings, remember Weis recruited very well but couldn’t develop his players. Recruiting is a big piece of the puzzle, but not the most important.
Penn State needed a good recruiting season and got it. #1 in the Big Televen, #12 in the country.
Quite the disparity between Rivals and ESPN. USC #1 in Rivals, #7 on ESPN.
Notre Dame didn’t do bad for a new coach (that Tennessee ranking is impressive for a new coach), following a truly terrible season.
UCF are ranked #56, 8 spots ahead of USF… and that’s all that really matters to me.
Its funny when i lived in Chicago it was all about the pro teams and no one cared about recruiting… like the rivals guy only on maybe once a month to talk about the bigten or so… move to kC and then its like prettty often… they’re followingit… bitching about it all of that…
Then move back to the atl… YEAHH OKAY… these people down here were talking about Payton Manning inhighschool. debating whether Archie was obligated to send him to Ole Miss.
They do rankings on soph and juniors down here… they bother the family…the kids here have “advisors” which sounds like AGENT to me lol
currently they are bitchin about Da’Rick Rogers who backed out of GA and folllowed his buddy to Tenn… LEAST i don’t know if u are in the south… but buddy I’m a yankee and i can take u to some high school ball down here thats better attended then a Northwestern or Univ Ill football game… and amazing quality for 15yr olds
I completely get what you’re talking about. I’ve seen it too, and I still don’t understand it.
The Texas Longhorns seem to have done very well again. Significantly, they’ve picked up some very good DEFENSIVE recruits, something they often haven’t done in either the Mack Brown or John Mackovic years. I tend to give defensive coordinator Will Muschamp a lot of the credit for that.
The one thing that bothers me a BIT is that, despite all the success they’ve had AND despite the attractions Austin offers to a college student, the Longhorns haven’t been much of a factor in NATIONAL recruiting. Mack Brown does a great job of getting the best in-state players, but I’d have thought UT could get more top out-of-state players than they do.
Wisconsin: ranked 33rd nationally by Scout.com and 86th nationally by Rivals.com. These rankings are next to useless. ![]()
Yes, Austin does have a lot things to offer. But for any out of state kid, it is a long, long way from home.
From the nearest state capitals:
Baton Rouge 350 miles
Little Rock 440 miles
OK City 360 miles
Santa Fe 600 miles
Remember, these are 18 yr old kids, leaving home. Parents will want to go to the games.
2nd in the OP’s link; 1st in the ESPN link
(Florida)
10th by Rival’s measure, 6th on the ESPN list.
That’s higher than we’ve been in a while. Ticket sales and booster membership are both also running well ahead of the last couple of years. I’m sorry it had to end this way, but it was definitely time for Bobby to go.
