Dinsdale suggested it, so mayhaps he knows of lunchy spots.
Well, I will say that Santorini is a tad more upscale, meaning very yummy seafood specials (Santorini being an island and all), but a tad pricier as well. Between Pegasus and Greek Islands: tough call. Greek Islands is kind of the classic default, but Pegasus has an outdoor patio (I’m told, anyway; every time I’ve hoped to sit there, the weather has been crummy).
If anyone has other Greek faves, please do mention them; expanding one’s horizons is usually a good thing.
(Hope y’all like garlic. Skordalia, anyone? And taramosalata, I hope?)
Will there be flaming cheese?
If so, I may be in. We’ll see how works goes tomorrow, but I hope to make it.
I think I can…I think I can…I think I can…
Santorini is my fav’ Greek place, but I’ll go with the flow.
Is 1:00 ok with folks?
Well, I want to go, but I don’t know how long to and from work would take. If someone can give an address, that would help.
Kyla, the neighborhood is roughtly Adams and Halsted, depending on exactly where we go - the UIC/Halsted stop on the Blue Line if you happen to be El-ing it. Usually we lunch right downtown, but this time we’re going a little off the beaten path. Santorini is 800 W. Adams and here’s the Metromix link.
Santorini, 1:00. Check. I’ve got a walkthrough down on 35th Street that morning, so I may be a little late, but I should be there.
Have fun! A little too far for an hour long lunch for me. I’ll see you guys next time, though, if it’s downtown.
I have to call in tomorrow night to see if I have to show for jury duty out in Iowa - I mean, DuPage.
If I’m in the office, I’ll post Thu a.m.
Opa!
Wooo, flaming cheese! I will be riding my NEW bike since my lovely purple bike got stolen, so I should be there on time for once.
I called to make sure Santorini is open for lunch. They are. See whoever there for lunch at 1-ish.
Glad you’re over the puking, Gundy. The first time I smelled saganaki, it reminded me of the smell of vomit. But only during the actual flaming. Heh.
I’m sooo jealous, I love Greek food but I only get a half hour for lunch unlike you cool people
Still waiting for an after 5 get together!
So what’s stopping you from organizing one?
Urp.
Good lunch suggestion. I’ve never had grilled meatballs before (or meat discs, more properly) and those rocked. That roe-fish-egg stuff was more than a little weird, though.
Yeah, but you all missed the thrills involved in sitting in the jurors’ lounge across the parking lot from the DuPage Fairgrounds, drinking stale coffee and reading old copies of Good Housekeeping and Redbook.
Well worth the $17.50!
Dammit, I missed this one. Greektown is even my work neighborhood. (I like the Parthenon, myself.)
Oh, Ferret Herder! Rat farts! Woulda loved to meet you! Sadly, Greektown is far enough out of the way that I douby we’ll be making it there for lunch bunch too often. But I’m not far, so if you ever want to mini-lunch bunch I’m all for it.
And: let me tell you now, Halsted between Adams and Division is a HILLY road. Kicked my ASS.
Well, it’s not exactly my neighborhood but extremely close - I work over in the big ol’ cluster of hospitals across the Ike. Damn! Work was kicking my behind for the week or two beforehand, so I didn’t think about lunch possibilities and so didn’t check the thread. Bah!
Best quote from lunch:
Hamlet: I need five gay guys to work me over.
Can I propose Thursday, August 28th for the next ChiDope Lunch Bunch?
Ferret Herder, you are in my work neighborhood - I work at one of those hospitals as well.
 Small world!
looks around outside No, wait, it’s not - when there are 3 major hospitals all located right next door (literally) to each other, you have to figure a couple of us would end up in them.
