Technically…they both inhabited a moebius-strip universe that wrapped around itself. In one episode, the Station 51 crew are watching Adam-12 on TV, and in another they are interacting with Adam-12.

Chester B Kelly was a crook in more than one Adam-12 episode, and Marco was a fellow patrol cop to Reed and Malloy.

Dragnet might be just a bit* too* earnest for my tastes, but at least they had them doing the forgotten parts of detective work - bunco, fraud, theft. They weren’t the glamour boys of homicide (let alone the elite RHD).

Adam-12, too. There was the one episode where they’re just randomly shot at and Reed kills the shooter. That happens before the credits. The rest is him being grilled by the shooting investigators.

Absolutely Adam-12. Points for realism and earnestness. A lack of half-assed Hollywood stuff because Jack Webb ain’t playing that.

Toss in the shared universe thing - Dragnet, Adam-12 and Emergency all happened in the same version of LA - and it’s a no-brainer.

What about that episode where the Squad 51 vehicle shows up on CHiPs? Mind blown.

Nah Adam-12 for me. At least, they tried to make it a little realistic. Yeah, it was earnest and a little gung ho. It was an offshoot of Jack Webb’s Dragnet.

Back in the day I read a comment by an LAPD sergeant that Adam-12 was pretty realistic… except that they packed about eight-years’ worth on incidents into one eight-hour shift.

Adam 12, hands down. The CHIPs scenes involving chases/cruising/accidents etc. always cracked me up because they were soooo choreographed. The white broken lines passing by at 20 MPH when they are allegedly going highway speeds always make me moan.

One of the great mysteries of the Webb-verse:

If Emergency is a spinoff of Adam 12 and they occur in the same shared reality, how could Malloy and Reed appear in one episode of Emergency, yet Gage and DeSoto discuss Adam-12 the TV show in another episode?

I’ve seen all of Adam-12, probably most of the Emergency episodes, either you can watch over and over

Nowadays I watch Quincy and Perry Mason. I never knew attorneys involved themselves with their clients as Perry does!

I enjoyed the few episodes of the New Adam-12 that I saw. Seemed to capture the “earnestness” of the original. I wonder if they’ll ever put them out on DVD.

It had a different pair of cops, not Malloy and Reed. One of them was played by John Wayne’s son, Ethan. It and Dragnet were both revived in syndication after Jack Webb’s death. Episodes are available for streaming on Hulu.

thanks, did not know that is was re done. Nothing is better the second time around, Hawaii 5-0 withstanding. Not that I’ve seen many episodes but its made in Hawaii…

When I moved to LA in 1985, I had my trust Radio Shack police scanner, and I would listedn to the real thing. I swear Shaaron Claridge was still working, or at least, someone that sounded just like her. It was like TV came to life for me…

EMERGENCY!! I even have my 6 & 4 year old grandkids hooked on the re-runs. As soon as they come over they say “we want to watch the fireman show”. I DVR’d a bunch of them.
