Howdy Y’all! Another day of irk down. It looks like it will get rainy out in the near future. ICK!
LiLimmmmmm’s chimed in already but I’d batter the cauliflower too. I’ve never had fried cauliflower. I’m not real wild about the stuff ‘cept it’s good baked and ok raw for dippin’.
Tuna sallit is made. In a while I shall commence makin’ french fries. This sounds nummy to me.
You might want to show her this. At the bottom right is a link to Crime Reports Online. You can zoom in to the area and from the various pulldowns select the kinds of crimes and the period of time. Personally, I found it terrifying…
Nothing exciting at work today - just a lot of research. I mostly managed to stay awake.
Tuna steak for supper, with rice and some kind of vegetable matter. C’mon Firday - this week has been too long, even for a short week. I woke up in the wee small hours thinking “Get back to sleep - it’s the weekend!” then I thought “No, it’s Friday… oh @&#^$#@&^%@ it’s just Thursday!!” :smack: That set the tone for my day.
Retirement is highly overrated Mom. Of course, if I had actually wanted to retire I might feel differently about it.
LiLi - extra points if you put curry powder in the batter.
[TMI] I made my annual visit to my ear, nose, & throat doc on Mon. fortuitously, this time it coincided with my annual sinus infection. He said “You’ve got some nasty stuff going on in there” and gave me ten days worth of antibiotics. Unfortunately, the antibiotics played Holy Hell with the flora and fauna in my gut, and I am not a happy camper. I’ve been taking acidophiles tablets to try to counteract the mass murders going on down there, but don’t know how much it’s helping. [/TMI]
I looked too, and what I found scary is that area is not any worse than the 'hood we moved out of in Indiannoplace, or the first one we moved to in Hampton.
There are more sex offenders in the old Indy 'hood than the area of Lex Park that house is in…
Even scarier is that the area around the apartment complex we wanted is just as bad. I guess we’re screwed no matter what we pick. At least I can project ‘Don’t f*ck with us’ pretty well.
LiLi, I would have voted for battered too, if the voting were still open. When I was in college, they had an “Asian” section in the cafeteria. When they made sweet 'n sour battered chicken, they’d also make battered broccoli too. It was YUM. I’d assume cauliflower would be similar.
It’s about 0 with a -20 wind chill here. (All degrees F.)
I’m taking tomorrow off and I’m just going to relax and enjoy the day! Well, aside from laundry, grocery shopping, and making a big pot of spaghetti. But I like grocery shopping and making spaghetti. So it’ll be mostly fun. And if the washer doesn’t give me crap, the laundry will be mostly enjoyable too.
**swampy **- not only are those things horribly cheesy looking, *all *sizes have 31" inseam. So if you’re taller than about 5’5", you’ll be wearing high water pants. Very stylish indeed…
**BBBobbio **- considering the way “sex offender” is defined, I don’t really worry about it much. I suspect many of these “offenders” got the labels for stupid things rather than being rapists or other major perverts. There are supposedly 2 of them in my neighborhood. Whatever. One thing about that general area that **FCD **found disturbing - when our daughter was house hunting, we found some townhomes down there that showed really well in photos. So he drove around and noticed a lot of graffiti and junked cars as well as a bunch of adult men hanging around in the middle of the workday. He took that as a bad sign.
We’ve got a *coooooooold *weekend forecast. I am not amused. I’m ready for spring, please.
I battered it and it was pronounced a Very Good Thing. Not gonna happen often, though- to cook deep fried anything means more concetration than I’ve got most days. And fewer babies doing their ‘Hilary up Mount Everest’ impression on my legs.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffenatin’. YAWN At least it’s Firday! YAY!!!
Rosie I’m sure I don’t want to know what jeggings are even though my mind says combo leggings and jeans? Now I am truly appalled.
I get to start bein’ a mentor to volunteers at work. This is a good thing really. Also, week after next there will be a group that assists senior citizens with their taxes around for three days a week. Should be fun! Folks are already callin’ for appointments. Should be a fun time.
I’m up and caffeination is in progress. I’ve already had some blueberry oatmeal with half a banana cut up in it, so extra fruity. Today is payday, and I usually stop at the supermarket on the way to work, taking food stuffs in for the next week or so. Normally, I get some dinners and sometimes breakfast foods for the freezer in the break room. I say “normally,” because from time to time, someone had been taking my frozen foods! The latest theft was of a box (yes, the entire box!) of breakfast empanadas. I had only eaten one of the six that were in the box. It was pretty tasty too, even more aggravating. Here’s the thing: I would have been happy to share … probably not the entire box, but one or two, if someone had asked. So now I just can’t bring in food that needs refrigeration or freezing, except on a daily basis. Even then, I’m taking my chances. In the past, I’ve lost whole, unopened boxes of toaster strudels. Mind you, I shouldn’t be eating them in the first place (LOL) but still, the boxes hadn’t even been opened yet. Oh well!
Hope everyone enjoys their Friday and then the weekend ahead.
Wow, tarra, that stinks. Do you put your name on the food? With a sharpie? On each individual packet? People where I work have done that when there were concerns like that and it seems to help a bit.
I’m up and ready to go earlier than normal. A lot of schools are closed today or have late starts, so I expect work will be quiet. It’s my boss’s last day ( ) and we don’t yet know who our new boss will be, so it’s gonna be interesting for a while…
Sounds like your job situation is perfectly suited for you, swampy. I imagine you’ll be really good as a mentor. So, yay!
That sucks, Herbs! It’s one of the reasons I bought a mini-fridge for my cubicle. The freezer only holds one frozen dinner, but at least no one will be stealing my stuff! Hopefully.
It’s freeeeezing here this morning. 31°F when I woke up. At least my car didn’t have frost on it. I hate waiting for the defroster to clear my windshield when I’m already late to irk.
I made chicken tortilla soup last night for dinner tonight. When I tasted it for salt, it seemed WAY spicy. I think I put too much minced chipotles in it. Last night Stouffer’s made dinner - lasagna! And we’re getting addicted to this bread. It is the BEST EVAH garlic toast.
I guess I’d better get busy. :: channeling Swampy:: “Those drawings won’t draw themselves, little missy! Now, get to it! Go on! And get thet look off your face!”
Today at lunch, SalesGuy (not a salesman, the consultant who does the “sales” part) told us that HyperProgrammer is leaving at the end of the month; the news were met by a chorus of Hallellujahs, followed by “and if we’re so glad to lose sight of him, and we’re not the ones who put up with him, you must be floating!” “The first day at work after he’s left, I’ll be so high it will be illegal, no happy drugs required.”
Amazing how someone can be so irritating. And part of it is his ham-handed attempts at being “nice”: having found out that some of us were affected by Do Not Ask Meat Syndrome, his reaction was something like “ OMG!!!11!! Butwhatdidyoudo? Didyoutakealotofmedication?” “Noooo, just diet. Stomach bugs, you usually fix them with diet.” “Oh! Soitwasn’taparasiteoranything!” “ :whatever: Well, no, no. It was not a parasite.” “Whenwillyoubeallright?” “I am all right already.” “Really? Wow. Soitgetsfixedsofast?” “Well, yeah… it was a stomach bug, bothersome but not serious.” If he was a normal person we might have explained that those specific symptoms aren’t linked to any intestinal parasite one may commonly encounter in Spain as far as we know, but being him, we just want him to shut up so we can go back to that happy, nice world where things move at normal speeds and humans breathe. Conversations with him make me conscious of every pause and intake of air.

OK, I just saw the most appallin’ teevee commercial for pajama jeans. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Many, many, many, many, many levels of WRONG!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but those …things and jeggings <shudder> are hitting the market as a result of the global cotton crisis.
In the past year, the price of raw cotton has more than doubled primarily as a result of rain taken to extremes. I can’t remember if it was flooding in Indonesia and a draught in China or the other way around, but entire countries’ cotton crops have been destroyed.
The parent company of Hanes has been valiantly trying to keep prices of t-shirts and undies stable, hoping that they can survive a hopefully short-lived crisis, but other companies have been ratcheting up prices. All of the major uniform rental firms have raised prices 5 to 15% or so recently, for example.
If you’re tuned into how a given piece of fabric feels and you’re thinking your jeans don’t seem as heavy or sturdy lately - this is why.
Home early with a touch of the stomach ick. Or maybe I’m just worn out after several nights of bad sleep. Or a combination. Anyway, I left early, stopped for some chickie noodly soup and crackers because that’s the prescription for tummy ick. And it was tasty.
I finally tracked down the correct website for retirement info - they say submit papers 120 ahead of your desired date! That’s 4 months! Who knows what will happen 4 months out?!? I do think it can be done faster, especially where I work because there just aren’t that many people, but still, dang! They also advised making it effective the last day of the month and at the end of a pay period. So I’ll have to figure all that out.
And one of the mucky-mucks had a meeting with his people and for whatever reason, he threw out the figure 40% when asked about a RIF.     That’s a heck of a reduction. And if it comes to that, I’ll definitely take my crayons and go. I couldn’t stay and have some young kid lose a job because I sat on my seniority. But if they are looking at that big a cut, they will definitely be offering retirement incentives, so that’s good for me.
Cold day, cold weekend to follow. ugh. Stoopit weather.
