As an avid reader of the black hole that is TVtropes I’ve occasionally run across a reference to someone called Chris Chan.
Apparently the author of an obviously amateur fan work based on Sonic The hedgehog. Nothing so strange so far, but then you run into what appears to be either criminal harassment disguised as trolling or an elaborate act of performance art.
:eek: WTF is this I don’t even, my god it is like thousands of man hours were spent by someone to fuck with and hate on some dude. You can find where they dug up actual local newsarticles featuring this guy as a kid, harassing the guy and his family on the internet and phone, nude pictures, drawings of the guy having sex with his mother.
Is this a 4chan thing I’d understand if I hung out over there?
To put it bluntly, Chris Chan has brought most of it on himself. He’s a real piece of work. For example, he once drew a Rule 34-ed picture of him and a friend and plastered it all over the internet. Then he couldn’t understand why she was so upset and would no longer talk to him. He’s been banned from a number of stores in his hometown.
He and his mother were also convicted of trying to run some guy over with their car, then resisting arrest.
I’m not condoning the harassment, but the guy’s an asshole, and a creepy one at that.
To put is simply, a lot of autistic people are upset at the guy because he makes autistic people look bad. Think of someone who did something stupid that caught on in popular culture (like, say, Rebecca Black), and multiply that by a bunch of people who lack the ability to understand other people.
And then add a guy who apparently has no one in his life who can actually teach him what he’s doing wrong, and who does not believe the people who are upset at him. So the cycle just keeps repeating itself, over and over.
