“Now go home and get your fucking shine box.”
“Okay.”
“Now go home and get your fucking shine box.”
“Okay.”
“Okay, sir!”
The Democratic Party is not going to embrace small government conservatism. It may accentuate some moderate aspects to grab some people who are horrified by Trump, and I suppose that could dilute the influence of the left wing. But to describe it the way you did is hyperbole.
Oh, of course not, I’d never expect such a thing. But if the party split goes from center left vs. center right to nativist vs. inclusiveness, that’s going to take us back to the old days when parties were defined less by ideology than by regional culture.
Certainly in any inclusive party the progressives are going to outnumber the conservatives, but if enough conservative voters are there to be had then the Democratic Party will adjust to that reality a little. Going back to more Clintonian policies is certainly a possibility in that situation, while the Sanders fans get kicked to the curb. When have progressives ever won an election for the Democrats anyway?

“Welcome to NJ!”
Chris Christie, Governor
A to B to C. (FTR- I only use Venn Diagrams when referring to certain fine politicians INSIDE The Beltway.)
Maybe your experiences are different than most. Maybe every Pol by You is 100% moral and upstanding.
(…And maybe all those Cherry Blossoms you’ll see next month were fertilized with Happy Thoughts and Human Kindness…)
The conservative Manchester, N.H. Union Leader says it goofed in endorsing Christie - and that he told them he would never endorse Trump!: http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/01/politics/new-hampshire-union-leader-chris-christie/index.html
Oh, Ed, you sounded like Dirty Harry just then.
Loved Alexandra Petri’s take on Christie’s subservience at Trump’s rally:
While I was watching it it was already an internet phenomenon waiting to happen. Just a pic of that press conference is the funniest and most frightening thing I have ever seen, almost. And it went on so long.
What does he think he’s going to gain out of this?
Have you seen his ad with the town hall, and he’s wearing the orange shoes and rolling around like a beachball telling everyone how strong he is/was? Woof
It sounds like Alexandra Petri is either on drugs, or should be. What an insightful comedy routine. Two people on a stage and only one speaks at a time. Shocking.
Does Obama still like to stand in front of physicians he had costumed in lab coats so his supporters understand that they are doctors? At times, comedians can be hysterical.
Christie has certain fine qualities, but he has always been a big oportunist. In the 2012 election he all but endorsed Obama. (That helped in his reelection campaign, but did not help with his presidential aspirations.)
The delegates are pledged to vote a particular way on the first ballot. However, the delegates themselves are mostly loyal party members selected by the state-level Republican parties. They might personally not want Mr. Drumpf to win, but still be pledged to vote for him. If enough of them feel that way, they could make a ‘no orange candidates’ rule or something, and there’d be nothing he could do to stop them.
It was over when he closed the GW Bridge.
It was only a few years ago, back around Sandy, when there were Serious-Minded People thinking the only way for the GOP to win the WH was to nominate … him.
I get it. We shouldn’t dare distinguish between normal behavior and Shakespearian level ironic creepiness.
You have a place in the new R party.
The union leader called. It says it wants its endorsement back.
(post shortened)
When was the GW Bridge closed? Or more specifically, when do you remember the GW Bridge actually being closed?
(Underline added)
Who is this “we” you are referring to? Who do you believe you are speaking for?
When Christie Crony Kelly and Christie Crony Wildstein hit on the idea to punish Fort Lee’s mayor. Your loyalty is notable, but really, when do you remember it meaning anything else, in terms of Christie’s political future?
The GW Bridge was never closed. I wonder what else you’re mistaken about?
You’re saying that the GW Bridge has never been closed?
Are we (you and I) talking about the PANYNJ entrance lane closures in September 2013, or did you want to talk about the entire history of the bridge? I’ve always wonder how much concrete was used to make the GW Bridge.
