I saw this originally on Washington Monthly’s website. Chuck Norris, in his Town Hall column, advocates for protesters to fly some revolutionary flag instead of the Stars and Stripes. However:
Now, I’ve got no objection if he wants to desecrate the flag in order to protest. I wouldn’t do so, but I believe it’s his right to do so if he wants.
But I’m surprised that a right-winger would propose doing so, and that so many other right-wingers in the comments section would endorse doing so.
He’s also all over the airwaves (in my area at least) in commercials telling people the importance of their 2nd Amendment right to bear arms and to vote for politicians who support those rights (by going to the NRA website to check). Since Washington’s attention right now seems almost solely fixed on the economy and health care, I don’t even understand why these ads are coming out now.
Man, get it through your head. The right wing has taken hyprocrisy to heretofore unimagined levels. These assclowns (Norris, Beck, Limbaugh, etc.) would take a dump on the American flag and tattoo “I Hate America” in big Olde English style letters on their forehead if they thought it would make a point about how evil Obama is (while netting them a few buck in process, of course).
Only $73.50, and it comes with its own wooden pole and Brass bracket!
At 2.5 by 4 feet long, they probably have to brew a whole gallon of tea, just to stain a single flag. They must keep some mighty big teapots in their factory.
Wow, I had no idea he was such an intellectual weakling. Yeah, that’s right Chuckles, you’re a fucking pussy. I’d heard jokes and references, knew you were on the right (which alone is not eyebrow-raising and says nothing of note), but had no idea you were such a two-bit twat nugget. I guess the only joke (other than you) that has any ring of truth to it is “what does Mike Huckkabee use for toilet paper? Chucky Norris’s beard.”
You dime-store caricature of a sentient being. Cloak yourself in all the false flags you want, in the end you’re nothing but a partisan, unpatriotic hack, out to make as much slobbering cash as possible by selling anti-American ideas wrapped in lies. It’s so funny that you quote people who would be chagrined at your utter lack of comprehension of what they said. Cocknocker.
Here are just a few of the choice corn and worm infused bowel movements that splashed out on his keyboard:
Is this a new meme? Obama has been in office since January, I count 8 months, not a year. Sarah has him running the country for the past 10 months. Are they suggesting that Obama mind-rayed Bush for those last 2-4 months of his presidency?
In fairness, as soon as the election was over, and even before, all eyes were on Obama and what he was doing. Nobody gave a damn about a lame duck. So I’d say 10 months is fair, even if he didn’t officially take office until January.
I find this ironic considering they wouldn’t even let him move into Blair house a couple of weeks early. So you’re saying; he was responsible for the country while not being allowed a room at the inn. Just want to keep the story straight.
Bottom line: did Obama have any Presidential powers 10-12 months ago? If so can you enumerate them please?
Of course he didn’t. I’m not arguing that he was President, only that as soon as the election was over he was who people were talking about as President, not Bush. Happens every changeover, it’s not exactly specific to Obama.
Maybe I’m being obtuse but to me it seems a bit disingenuous to complain that he hasn’t done much in the past 10 or 12 months when he has only been on the job for 8 months. I know it would piss me off if I were held responsible for stuff that I didn’t do during the 4 months that I didn’t have any power to do anything.
It’s one thing to “talk about Obama as being the President” during that time period. It’s quite another to criticize him for not doing enough during that time period when he wasn’t actually the Prez.
Well, in their minds, it’s not hypocrisy. It works like this:
It’s okay for me, Chuck Norris, to do X because I know what I really mean by doing it, so I don’t worry about my intentions.
It’s NOT OKAY for you, <random lefty>, to do the same x, because I’m sure I know what you really mean by doing it, and I don’t like my vision of your intentions one bit.
When I’ve pressed people on this issue in conversation, I’ve actually heard them pretty much flat-out say exactly this.
Here’s an example I read in the Washington Post, but everyone conveniently overlooked. I think I am recalling it correctly.
When Bush the Elder was in office, one of his staff was having a birthday (it might have been Sununu, my memory s hazy). In the cabinet session, one of the senior Republican Executive Branch leaders of the free world mooned the birthday boy wearing flag underwear. They thought it was hilarious and much good-natured laughter ensued.
Then they settled down to discuss business, including support for an effort to pass a bill criminalizing flag-desecration.
See, it was okay for them to wave the flag around on their ass as a joke because they knew they meant no harm by it. They would put me in prison for waving the flag at a protest.
