Chuck Norris to me was one of those guys who really should have had a bigger mainstream hit but he was stuck in the Cannon mines for too long. I legitimately can’t think of what his biggest mainstream movies is, but I definitely love Code of Silence, Invasion USA and The Delta Force.
What I think really did make him a mainstream star in the U.S. was his 1990s TV series, Walker, Texas Ranger; it was often in the top 20 of the Nielsen ratings.
I’m curious if it’s basing that off him being in the hospital yesterday and in good spirits or all the internet jokes/memes about him being death proof.
Same. I’ll miss the memes, but I won’t really miss him. He was a MAGA asshole and a big supporter of Trump. Back in the Obama days, he warned of “1000 years of darkness if Obama is reelected,” and only got more conservative and hateful as time went on.
I became a fan of Norris when he was the Middleweight Karate champion. My friends and I passed around the Karate magazines. Chuck and other fighters like SuperFoot Bill Wallace fired our imaginations.
Good Guys Wear Black 1978 and Force of One 1979 made me a fan of his movies.
I was frustrated that his movies were low budget and poorly written.
Norris wasn’t a natural actor. He’s often very stiff and emotionless in his films.
He needed the experience of the weekly tv show, Walker Texas Ranger to sharpen his acting chops.
I always enjoyed the bar scene at the end of the Walker episodes.
It was usually Chuck, C.D., Alex and Trivette. The scenes were usually pretty relaxed and felt natural.
I remember Chuck said he tore up his knee early in season 1 and struggled to finish the season. You can see he’s limping in some episodes if you look for it.
The actors were Noble Willingham, Sheree Wilson and Clarence Gilyard jr.
I was never really a fan, but one thing sticks in my memory. A local DJ talked about doing a promo interview with Norris. At the end of the interview, he asked for an autographed picture. His son, who was in an accident and in a coma, was a big fan. He wanted to post the pic in the son’s hospital room. The DJ said that Norris came with him after the interview and went to the hospital and spent time talking to the comatose son, just being with him. That’s the kind of mensch you don’t expect a celebrity to be.
