Claudia Black: Gorgeous Babe or Margaret Hamilton lite?

Okay, over on the Wonder Woman Thread, someone put forth Claudia Black, who is, a really good actress. However, I don’t understand the lust people have for her. She reminds me a good deal of Margaret Hamilton and I’ve prepared this undoctored visual to make my point.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think she’s outright unattractive, but she is in no way pretty. I can see an appeal, to some extent, based on her apparent personality, and the fact that she can be sexy. But pretty just isn’t an attainable goal IMHO.

Anyway: Vote

I got a whole bunch of nothing from your link.

Never mind. It’s working now.

Not for me.

Link doesn’t work for me either.

Vote: Babe, and well-versed in playing a kickass woman in charage of… well… stuff.

But not pretty enough to get the title role in a fluffy Hollywood movie. Consider who they cast for Mary Jane in Spiderman…

Babe - exotic, non-traditional-looking. But babe.

Kinda like Ellen Barkin…

I’m going with babe.

Totally babalicious, approaching Angelina Jolie in the Hetero-woman-but-I’d-do-her-anyway category. (But I think she’s too “hard” for WW.)

Which means, when put together with her acting, she’s strong, sexy and “masculine” enough that I can see why some folks wouldn’t like her.

[guy who’s a sucker for an attractive woman with a British accent]

And did I mention she has the most wonderful British accent?

In rebuttal to your photo-evidence, may I present some additional evidence? Note the two photos of Claudia Black on the right-hand side.

Vote: babe.

Not sure I can see her as Wonder Woman, though. (But as long as we’re considering actresses with sci-fi/fantasy pedigrees, Hudson Leick…hmm…)

Thanks to Ethilrist’s explanations I was able to see the comparative images. I can see a little (and only a little) of how WWoW might come into mind. I have a similar penchant for seeing other people in people. It’s almost an instinct. But I must vote for the “babe” option with the same reservations as Ethilrist and WordMan ( I assume Ellen Barkin is a serious enough “no” vote for getting the WW role).

Hey, it took typing WWoW and WW to realize there may be a more subtle connection in these gals!

I thought she was Australian…?

I’ve only ever seen her in Pitch Black.

Okay…she has a bit of the under-eye puffiness that Margaret Hamilton has, but I think it’s just the lighting (not that I’d know this chick if I bumped into her). I wouldn’t say they look even remotely alike.

Total babe, but at 35ish, probably older than they’ll go for.

…and to finish that thought, probably older than they’ll go for Wonder Woman.

Mea Culpa, I’m so used to checking links by dragging them into a new pad, I forgot about Tripod’s policy.

I see a strong resemblance in the facial structure, the eyes particularly and the mouths. Don’t get me wrong, Claudia is much hotter than Margaret Hamilton, part of that is attitude, and the fact that she does have a hot body.

I guess I like my women a bit more feminine. I mean, I always preferred Gabrielle to Xena and Willow to Buffy (but I like Zoe, who gives up nothing in the kick-ass department, better than Innara and Kaylee)So, tastes are just different.

I had a friend with a sister who was built like 9 kinds of trouble. She came on to me, and I had to flee, because every time I looked at her, I saw her brother, in spite of her Babeliness. Every time I look at Cludia, I see the Wicked Witch of the West.

Judging by this thread, must just be me.

But I’m okay with that.

Eh?

MJ’s not exactly supposed to be a plain-jane (pardon the pun).

She’s a popular model, so it rather makes sense to hire a pretty actress to play her.

I think they’re referencing the unsitability of Kirsten Dunst for the role. She’s cute, but not model pretty, nor is she tall, as she should be.

And of course, she’s a blonde, not a redhead and she just looks wrong with the dye job.

It’s not just you. No matter how often I see her and marvel at her looks, every time I see Angelina Jolie, I see Jon Voight. I saw him before I knew they were related.

Just out of curiosity, since we seem to have similar inclinations for pulling other faces into new faces, are you one to put a face on a voice or someone’s writing style? Like, do you have faces associated with a fair number of Dopers whose faces you have yet to see – either in person or by way of photos here?

I’ve thought of starting a thread on that issue, but with the luck my threads have been having lately I’ll just stop with this mini-hijack.
