This. I’d never met him, but he’s a friend of a friend (through Central America biogeography), and I’ve enjoyed his Panama birding guidebook.
My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
On a more selfish level, I wonder if this (along with TubaDiva’s passing) really might signify something like the end for the Doper community as we know it.
I will add my condolences. I am not a serious birdwatcher, but it was always cool to get bird stories and identification from him.

Not much of a birdwatcher either, but I really enjoyed Colibri’s posts. Plus, as a random fact, I have an uncle who’s an ornithologist and did some work in South America (Columbia, vice Panama).
Sad news.
Very sad a huge loss for the board. There are a number of posters here that I always considered experts in their fields and he was one. R.I.P.

I’m so sad at this news, Colibri’s posts were always worthy of being read twice, if not more. My heart goes out to his family.

So sad to hear this. My condolences to the mod community (especially the long timers). Chap was one of the people who got me interested in this place about 15 years ago.

I am saddened - Colibri and TubaDiva were among the first people on list I really had any [mod] interaction with, and both were posters worth reading no matter what they were discussing.
I first started surfing the Dope in the late 90s. Colibri was a fixture. This is shocking, jarring, and oh so sad. As my Jewish friends might say, may his memory be a blessing!
Very sad and shocking news. You hang around this place long enough and you feel like you know people, in spite of the anonymity. His posts were consistently well-written and informed. He will be missed around here.
