like 7-5 and the Tidy Bowl
It pains me to say this, as I’d dearly love to see the SEC taken down a peg, but it’s sure shaping up that the winner of Bama - LSU (nov 5) will be our next nat’l champ.
Lot of football still to be played, yada yada.
Roll Tide. Florida next week. That’ll be a tough test as well.
The Big Ten is really down this year. If Robinson doesn’t eventually burn out, I don’t think there’s a game on their schedule that they are completely incapable of winning.
Will anyone admit to watching Minnesota this year? What the hell happened to them? How did they drop to something quite this miserable?
I’ve come across the end of all of their games up to today’s. I was napping today, woke up and saw 38-0 at halftime against Michigan. I think it’s a general lack of talent, nothing more and nothing less. Hopefully Jerry Kill can turn this around. He did a good job Southern Illinois and then Northern Illinois. If he can do it at Outside of Illinois, I’ll be happy. The state of Minnesota historically puts out a lot of D1 football players, but it seems that for the elite players, they mostly leave the state. Miami got Seantrel Henderson last year (he initially signed with USC, but was allowed to leave), and he was a top-5 recruit in the country. Notre Dame has gotten a lot of linemen through the years, and Wisconsin has poached a lot of players, too.
I have no hopes or expectations of becoming a program like Michigan or Penn State, let alone Ohio State, but there’s no reason that Minnesota can’t be like Purdue or Iowa with a down year every now and then, but mostly bowl seasons, and the run at a conference championship every 4th or 5th year. Having lived in Wisconsin and witnessing their rise to a very, very good program from perennial doormat, I know it can be done, though the heights Wisconsin has reached may be a bit too far. On the other hand, I’m not sure if Wisconsin has now reached status of a true top 15 program in the country, or if last season and this is just the result of a couple very good recruiting classes. Time will tell.
woooooooo pig sooie!!!
Which is to say, let’s give a nice, warm SEC welcome to Texas A&M.
Couple quick thoughts.

Awesome win today for Illinois to stretch to 5-0. Looks like there’s a good shot at a big bowl this year. Though opening with 5 home games certainly helped that. I’m ashamed to admit that I actually missed the game against Northwestern today since I had to work late last night and slept in, but it was a barn burner. Bad defense on both sides apparently but you can’t feel too bad about a 18 point 2nd half comeback to win at Homecoming against your in-state rival. They even made it interesting by turning the ball over in the final 2 minutes an allowing a NU TD with 1:20 left. Then came back again with a big drive. Hat’s off to Nathan Scheelhaase and AJ Jenkins foro monster games.

Loving the look of this Wisconsin v. Nebraska game. This looks like the Big Ten football that I knew and loved growing up. These two teams could really build something special for a new Big Ten rivalry game. Those big uglies up front are pounding away, this is a man’s game. The crowd in Madison is really pretty awesome tonight though. I hate cheering for Wisconsin in anything, but against Nebraska I think I have to. Let’s welcome the new kids to the Big Ten with a whipping.
One more thing, it’s a pain in the ass keeping these two teams straight. Their uniforms are basically identical. Exact same shades of red and striping. The players are all a bunch of big ass white guys. I accidentally cheered for Nebraska on that big pass play out of reflex. I’ve been watching Wisconsin in those unis forever and it’s tough to un-train myself.
Nebraska helmuts are white. With a big black “N” that looks it was made with Electrical Tape.
Make that RED Electrical Tape.
Yay! MSU beats the Buckeyes in Columbus. Boo! They still haven’t beaten a good team. Holy crap, that OSU team was pitiful. Even a subpar day from Cousins and the complete lack of a ground game didn’t keep this from being a lot less close than the score indicated.
That Minnesota team is going to have a VERY long Big Ten season. It sure looks like they’ll get blown out every week.
Illinois may have won its game, but this is one of the cheapest shots you ever want to see.
Jonathan Brown’s been having a stellar year too. That was shady, glad I missed it. Though if you watch that video it looks like the Northwestern player took a shot at Terry Hawthorne (#1) and Brown was sticking up for him. Can’t see all of what took place, but it looks like he kicked at him in the lower part of the body first. Still, can’t do that shit.
Oh, pfft. Butkus would’ve ripped his dick clear off back in the day.
Bama held Florida to 15 rushing yards (well, -3 if you don’t count the backup quarterback). I’d say we’re doing pretty damned well. Roll tide.
Amen. Roll Tide.
I have 2 CFB teams. Ohio State is in an, ahem, “rebuilding year” that doesn’t make them look bowl-bound, and that may keep Fickel from getting the job on a regular basis. It’s a system failure, though, can’t scapegoat the coach.
UMass is struggling in the Colonial this year, and we can only hope Kevin Morris has madder recruiting skillz than he’s shown so far or they may not even win a game in 1-A next year. Better bring back Don Brown from UConn - he’d expected to get the Maryland job when he left after the last championship game for the Minutemen, and he recruited circles around Morris. Moving home games a hundred miles away from campus (to Gillette) could have a seriously negative effect on campus spirit. There’s an expansion proposal for the on-campus stadium, but it isn’t even funded yet.
That was a fun game to watch, although it looked more like a WAC game than hard-hitting high-speed SEC defensive struggle. Did either team ever punt?
Apparently one writer thinks Boise is the best team in the country.
