College Football November and early December 2009

Need playoffs.

McCoy cost himself the Heisman tonight. Still, Texas was just good enough to spare some headaches for BCS voters. I expect them to be the underdog going into Pasadena, and Bama will bring home the fourth consecutive SEC/BCS Championship.

McCoy lost the Heisman on that last play alone. He was a fraction of a second from one of the most infamous plays of all time, and only saved by pure luck.

Honestly I think TCU and Cincinnati may both be better than Texas. Those two teams should play, and then the winner plays Alabama after they beat Texas.

both of the feature games tonight were something else. Good thing for PIP.

YEAH! Ramblin Wreck and YellowJackets, Orange Bowl bound!! Against TCU? Boise St? Penn St, Iowa? B

The Cincy/Pitt game was incredible too.

Too bad the SEC game was kind of a dud.

So Cincinnati draws Florida? If the standings at 4-5 remain as is, shouldn’t TCU and Cincinnati play each other, with the winner being ranked ahead of Florida in the final polls?

Texas vs Boise
Alabama vs Cincy
Florida vs Oregon
TCU vs Ohio State
Give the whiny teams a shot ,so they will shut up.

So, what are the chances that the voters pick TCU or Cinci over Texas? After all, Texas barely won, and they (the voters) wouldn’t have to do the unthinkable (demoting a team that won)… they could simply do the thinkable (leapfrog a close-winning team when a spot opens up).

There are still some loose “phantom” bowl associations.

Sugar Bowl gets an SEC rep, if available (Florida this year)
Fiesta gets a Big XII rep, if available (none this year)
I haven’t looked at a Bowl Projection in a couple of weeks, but this is how I think it will pan out.

BCS Texas Vs Bama
Rose Oregon vs Ohio St
Fiesta TCU vs Iowa/PSU (maybe Boise)
Sugar Florida vs Cincy
ACC Ga Tech vs Boise (Iowa/PSU)

All the top teams are flawed. A couple undefeateds played weak schedules. I think it will all get ugly.

I don’t think any team in the top 5 that is undefeated and wants a shot at the title can really be called “whiny”.

Well to be fair, Cincinnati barely won as well.

But they didn’t look pathetic doing so. I think this was the best possible result of all. If Texas won convincingly, the bowls would be obvious. If they lost, it would be a wrench in the system, but the bowls would still be largely predictable. But now what’s going to happen?

#8 GTech @ #1 Alabama
#5 Boise State @ #4 Cinci
#6 Oregon @ #3 TCU
#7 Ohio State @ #2 Texas

8 conference champions. Head to head. Just sayin’…

*BCS conference champions + 2 At- Large. First round at higher seed’s home stadium.

For all the sunshine pumpers promoting TCU over Texas… have you seen their schedule? TeamRankings.com puts Texas at #31. Not so hot, huh? Well, consider that TCU is #71. Cincy is a little better, but still #47.

Incidentally, Texas and TCU have one common opponent, Wyoming. Playing at Wyoming early in the season, Texas wins 41-10. Late in the season, same scenario - TCU wins 45-10. Pretty much a draw there.

I’m with you (but, I suspect, only part of the way). After these games are played on Dec 31 and Jan 1, the pollsters should re-vote, and the #1 and #2 should play for the NC ~ Jan 10. No need for a 3 week playoff. Just a few clarification games.

True dat. I think that Texas was ripe to be leapfrogged, but Cinci didn’t win convincingly enough.

Congratulations, Tide, now go beat whoever ends up in the BCS game! Wish that the Gators hadn’t lost Dunlop for this game, but from what I saw, the result would have been the same, just the final score might have been closer.

To all of the Gator/Tebow haters: you’ll have fun next year, no Tebow, and the Gators will be mediocre after losing a lot of players.

I am interested to see how the bowl games shake out.

I’m a little taken aback by all the really nasty schadenfreude out there about Tebow’s tears. Look, I’m a Bama fan, and I got as sick of hearing about him as the next guy, but man, c’mon. He’s a nice kid who got his heart broken tonight. Lay off, already (not directed at anyone here, just in general).

It’s not really his fault, but the sports media set him up. Other QBs are Boy Scout-types too - in fact, there’s another guy that is a die-hard Christian that does mission work in Latin America during the summers, here in Austin. But the ridiculous overhyping of Tebow during his career inspired a lot of people to root against him. Got nothing personal against the guy, but I think the journalists stirred up a lot of the anti-Tebow fervor.

I dislike him pretty much solely for proselytizing every time he’s on camera. The media fellatio is annoying, but that’s secondary.
