Notre Dame never gets a break.
Texas, Florida, and USC all win, but none look good.
Those penalties to make sure Florida won were particularly ugly. Looks like more apologies from the SEC officials coming up.
Arkansas got boned. Sure looks like the SEC crew was looking to maximize Florida’s chances of getting in the title game.
The Gators were going to score a TD even without the penalties; their offense was finally starting to move the ball. It was only a matter of time before Arkansas’ defense wore down. It just took a lot longer than I expected. Go Gators!
The real question is: how much did they pay Tejada to miss those field goals? And Mallet to come up empty on what was clearly the most important drive of the game?
The SEC knows where the money comes from. Their officials consistently protect their BCS contenders from upsets.
Thus you have “excessive celebration” calls against Georgia for much less than what Florida players do after every mildly successful play, and “personal foul” calls against Arkansas for the grave misdeed of being on the field when a Florida player decided to plow into them.
This year they aren’t even trying to hide it. They just apologize afterward. They didn’t want to cheat, but they can’t afford to give away all that money.
I was very wrong about tonight’s game, and it feels so good. I have no idea where the defense was last week, but they showed up tonight. Go Jackets!
Let the party begin in Atlanta tonight!!
Looks probable that there will be a 3-way tie in the Coastal division of the ACC. Miami, GT and VT with one loss apiece. Miami beat GT, GT beat VT, VT beat Miami.
Remaing ACC games: GaTech (UVa, Wake, Duke), VaTech (UNC, Maryland, NC State, UVa), Miami (Clemson, Wake, UVa, UNC, Duke).
Strangely, UVa is undefeated in Conference play (and in Coastal Division), winning two games against bottomfeeders Maryland and UNC. And UVa is not that good, losing to William and Mary.
How does the ACC break the tie? Like the Big 12 South did last year, highest ranked team goes to ACC Championship team? Two teams get screwed, like UTexas and TTU did.
Everyteam in the Atlantic Division has at least two conference losses.
Weird year in the ACC.
I want to see Cincinnati vs. Iowa in the NC game.
some people think that is what the BCS deserves.
OK, I’m never gonna watch another Sat night SEC game again. That was fugly…just like last week – weak offense, flags on every play. And apparently you can get to be #2 without a QB.
Tebow was throwing some wobbly passes. He was not impressive.
While I root for UC because I live in the Cincy area (and because they are a good story, having sucked balls for so long), I still don’t think they’ll get a shot at the NC game no matter what they do. The BCS would rather a 2 loss SEC team play in that game rather than a top-ten ranked team from a weak conference.
Not saying that it isn’t always the worst decision either. The Boise States of the world generally get the smackdown from teams with an “inferior” record on paper when that wish is granted.
Anyway…here’s to giving the little guys at least a chance to shock the world. And maybe alter forever the way the BCS is conducted, because it isn’t always fair. For instance, what the fuck is a co-champion? It’s a contradiction in terms!
If Cincinnati or Boise State wants to be taken seriously as an NC contender, they need to schedule big non-conference games. End of story. This isn’t a conspiracy.
Iowa is the only team with anything to complain about, because the Big 10 looked a lot stronger than it turned out.
Yeah, like Charleston Southern, Troy, and Florida International
In all fairness to Boise St, I believe that they do try to get top ranked opponents. But no team in their right mind wants to go home/home with the smurfs on smurf field.
So BSU (and others, ie Utah) only option is to play those teams on the road only, and I can’t say that I blame them for not doing it.
The established teams like selling out their 85,000 seat stadium and don’t want to travel to Boise and play in front of 35,000 fans for a reduced payday. (That’s how many fans were at the BSU/Oregon game earlier this year)
Which is comparable to Montana St, Central Michigan, and Western Michigan.
Except for the fact that Florida beat Charleston So, Troy, and probably Florida Int’l.
Boise State just completed a home-and-home with #13 Oregon, and won both games.
Re: Sam Bradford – anybody think he was rushed back too early? That his injury might not have been so severe if he’d had another few weeks to heal?
With the Red-River Rivalry game, I was trying to think of other CFB rivalry games played on Neutral Fields.
I came with three others:
UGA-Florida - Jacksonville FL “World’s Biggest Cocktail Party”
Army-Navy - Philadelphia, Pa (well most of the time it is in Philly)
Mizzou-Illinois - St Louis, Mo (not a long established rivalry game (23 times, and only played in St Louis the last 5 times), this is more of a basketball (Bragging Rights) rivalry since neither team has an outstanding football resume. The B-Ball game is played in St Louis too.
Miss St-Ole Miss used to play their “EGG” bowl in Jackson, MS but they went to home/home games back in the early 90’s
Are there any other football rivalries played on neutral field. (Past or Present?)
As I recall, Bama - Auburn was played in Birmingham for a long time.
