College football: October 2009

sorry for the Double Post, but I miss the “3rd Sat in Oct” rivalry between Bama and UTenn.

I hear tell they are going to simply swap coaches with Penn State.

How about those Cincinnati Bearcats, huh? Huh?

Sorry, FoieGras…I would imagine that there’s a lot of anti-BigEast baggage hanging around Cinci’s neck. The perception (and perception is almost always wrong, but there it is) is that they play in a weak conference, so wake us up when they win a BCS bowl.

nfm: what happened to the 3rd Saturday tradition? Why did it change?

(of course, Cal used to play Stanford on the Saturday before Thanksgiving every year. With the 12 game schedule, and everybody wants a bye…things get weird and tradition goes out the window.)

yeah, when SEC went to 12 teams and two divisions, scheduling got dicey. Apparently, teams that are not in the same division has one (and only one) team from the other division that it always plays. Bama/Tenn, LSU/UF and UGA/Aub are the notable inter-division rivalries that are annual games. That means other longtime rivalries (like Tenn/Aub, UGA/Miss and UF/Bama) no longer are annual.

I guess the scheduling snafu with the two additional teams (Ark, USoCar) and the divisions broke up some long time traditions in the SEC. I guess the difficulties were not overcome.
FTR…Sagarin ranks the Big East higher than Big 10 or the Big 12 conference

Well, a game that should be pretty good just started.

I’m still rooting for a meteor strike at the 50 yard line of the Cotton Bowl.

Texas/OU sucks so far. Bradford hurt, but the Longhorns still losing. McCoy looks terrible

Oh, I know. Just that a nobody football team in a weak conference being ranked #8 has got to be worth something. Maybe they’ll get some nice parting gifts.

You know, it pains me to say this, but Cincinnati might actually be the best team in Ohio.

You’re not kidding. This game has been a sloppy mess, but I keep hearing what a hard-hitting defensive battle it has been. 7* turnovers, and the best team in the Big 12 can’t handle a banged-up team that lost to Miami and BYU(who got beaten by FSU). We’ve still got some time to go, but VT looks better than Texas. They’ve got 1 loss in the first game of the season to #2 Alabama. Assuming the worst tonight(hey notfrommensa, Class of '08) I’d love to see a rematch.

of all the top 10 teams playing today, Ohio St was the team I expected to have an easy win.

Iowa is position to run the table and win the Big 10. They already beat Penn St, but still have Ohio St on the road. Ohio St has to travel to Happy Valley and I am sure PSU will be favored in that game.

However, Iowa almost got beat by Div I-AA Northern Iowa. Iowa blocked two last second fied goal attempts by Northern Iowa. And Iowa only beat Arkansas State by three points

And just for the record, Sagarin has the BIG EAST Conference rated higher than the Big 10 and the Big 12 Conference. I don’t know what the other computer programs say that go into the BCS Formula mix.

As long as USC wins today, the Heisman is Tebow’s to lose.

I’m not sure of your thought process.

Are you thinking that Clausen is in contention to win over Tebow? But a loss to USC would take him out of consideration?

Or are you talking about South Carolina playing Bama?

Bwahaha , go Purdue

I figure McCoy is out with his poor performance today. Clauson might have a shot if he can lead ND to a win over USC and then run the table.

Tebow didn’t put up great numbers, but he was coming off the injury and Florida looked better against LSU than Texas did against Oklahoma.

Honestly there are 5 words that scare the fuck out of me.

“Brian Kelly coaches Notre Dame” :frowning:

I wanted him for Michigan 2 years ago, and I think He will be the next great College coach. I think the Football game has changed enough that a good Pro coach and good college coach are two different species, and he is the next big one. And after USC crushes ND today, they will probably dump the Chuck and bring in Kelly.

I don’t think there will be a clear no.1 or 2 or 3 or 4 this year. There will be a lot of noise at the end of the season.

Purdon’t beat Ohio State
USC is having it tough at a weak Notre Dame
Texas Tech. is beating Nebraska
Arkansas whipping Florida
Texas and Oklahoma played an ugly, fumbly game
Mich. beat a tough Delaware State team
I see one of the lower level undefeated teams wailing about being no. 1 again.

[Zapp Brannigan] People of Earth… Shhhh.[/ZB]

Wow, what a couple blatant gift penalties to the Gators late in the fourth. BS big time.

You mean BCS big time.
