College football: October 2009

YAY! There was an Animal House mention on GAMEDAY! And Gameday did refer to the “Cocktail” Party.

Iowa having another nail-biter. Against the Hoosiers, who got blown out by Virginia. They just scored two quick TD to go ahead by 4 pts.

Five out of 6 BCS computers have Iowa ranked #1. It has to be because of the computer cannot factor in margin of victory.

This Iowa game is amazing. It’s like Stanzi just tries to keep Iowa within 30 points going into the 4th quarter…got 'em right where we want 'em.

eta: Ole Miss is about to drop out of the top 25. I think they edge out Cal for having the most disappointing (ie, falling the farthest from their highest/most undeserved ranking) season.

Is there a worse 8-0 team than Iowa?

The 3:30 pm et ABC game of the week in the midwest is Michigan @ Illinois. Snooze fest.

Nevertheless, supposing Cincinnati wins out, including against two ranked opponents, I can guarantee you that they will somehow get jobbed out of the title game. They aren’t allowed at the big boy table just yet due to lack of bloodline and lacking a longer history of winning, which of course shouldn’t matter.

I think they are 9-0 and ranked…4th? I bet UC could beat them.

Maybe the first half. they have gone into the 2nd half down 7 times this year.
Cinci played what ?a high school this week.

Cincy played Syracuse, a team that [snicker] beat Notre Dame last year. [/snicker]

I loved the NBC promos last week for the Wash St/Notre Dame game. First time ever Notre Dame has been on NBC prime Time in the regular season.

Lets see my sports veiwing options tonight are:
World Series Yankees/Phillies (scheduled but may get rained out) on Fox
Texas/Okie St on ABC
USC/Oregon on ESPN2
Other USC/Tenn on ESPN

uhhh, NBC…your game is 5th on my priority list.

That was anything but a Snoozefest.

Notre Dame is clubbing WSU pretty badly. 23-7 at the half.

This doesn’t say much about ND. WSU may have trouble with junior college teams. Last week, Cal was up 35-3 in the 2nd quarter.

Did anyone else watch any of the Georgia-Florida game? I only flipped in and out, but I happened to see Brandon Spikes trying to gouge out the eyes of one of the Dawgs running backs. You can see a clip here, although it might get taken down (just try searching for “Brandon Spikes” in the last 24 hours). Pretty goddamned dirty, and I hope he gets suspended for it.

And go Mean Green!

Oregon is beating USc but they still have ugly uniforms.

Going into this game, Michigan was 1-3 in the Big 10. Illinois was 0-5. The game had little, if any, national attention.

I wasn’t aware National attention was what kept people awake, silly me for thinking it’s exciting, well played football.

I think they won like 28-7? Syracuse isn’t very good anymore right now, but they’re no Stanford.

Michigan shows real speed on offense. The defense wears galoshes.

Oregon creamed USC making it even harder to ignore Boise State.

There should be several suspensions from that game (I’m a Gator fan, and yes some Florida players did engage in such cheapshotting, but I counted more from the Georgia side).

Tebow got back into the Heisman race today I’d say.

The game was not on the Big 10 network, it was on ABC. ABC should have had Tex/Okie State in the afternoon and Ducks/USC in primetime. or vice versa.

I would have rather seen Houston - Southern Miss play.

EXactly. At the end of the game, Herby had the Ducks leapfrog a lot of teams into the #4 spot. Ignoring the fact that Boise St is undefeated and beat Oregon.

Its possible that Notre Dame can run the table, the only top 25 team they play is Pittsubrgh. They could sneak into BCS bowl consideration and displace TCU or Boise St.
