Come and PACIFY me....

Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. We have the oil, we have the will, we have the patience. We will rule the world one way or the other for America is weak at heart.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear enough. I don’t know if we chose the moral high ground in the invasion. Different philosophers say different things. What I do know is that the ostensible reasons, that of WMD and al Qaeda links, were morally dubious, if not downright wrong.

Like Mr Joe Lieberman says, “Right war, wrong reasons.”

Obviously, deciding who to attack is a more nuanced decision than the extent of the dictatorial-ness of the regime. If we went to war with China, I’d doubt we’d win. We’re beginning to win the war of ideas in Iran. After all, war is always the last option, and if the regime can be overthrown peacefully, than war shouldn’t even be on the table. In North Korea, we’d risk nuclear war. Nuclear winter. And all of that can of worms. Seoul would be a crater.

Decimating the world “on principle” is stupid beyond belief. One of the reasons the US went to war with Iraq is that the US could win. Attacking China would be foolhearty.

And to respond to the legitimacy of our current prez…

He got into office fair and square. I would’ve voted for Gore (was too young,) and I’ve alwayst thought the Electoral College was a dumb idea, but Bush won by the rules that were agreed to long before the election.

But I don’t need to like him.

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure. Whatever you say man.

this sounds just a LITTLE inflamatory for one who said he was a peaceful man…And America is a lot of things (not all good) but weak is not one of them.

Reply to the alahakbar character:
The USA is the most powerful Democracy in the history of the world. We have the intelligence. We have the technology. We have the will. And most important of all, we have the Nukes.

Reply to the earl of sandwhich:
I’m not here to defend everything the USA has done in the past. Besides in the past, many decisions were made with the commie threat in mind, which was a legitimate threat. Anyhow, that Allende character killed himself with a gold plated AK47 given to him by Castro. He was bad news, and I don’t really care that we helped to out him. What’s with assholes and their goldplated AK47’s ? They found them in Iraq also.

See? Isn’t this nice? Engaging in rational debate, rather than killing one another. I feel all warm and fuzzy!

“I’m singing in the rain, just singing in the rain. What a glorious feeling, I’m happy again. I wandering down the lane, with a happy refrain. Just singing in the rain…”

What’s with assholes and their nuclear weapons? They used their F-16s (sophisticated AK47s) to stop Iraq from having any. Meanwhile, the following 8 assholes are holding 170 other nations hostage, not letting them have any toys? Indeed WEAPONS-R-US:

Salaam aleikum Akbar,

May I ask you to change your membername in “Akbar” only.

Although your spelling of “Allah” is incorrect, if you are Muslim you should be aware of it that you can’t name yourself with the Arabic word for God.

Thank you.

Salaam. A

…and with all this “power” you cant even make your airports safe. We Arabs dont need nukes…

God is indeed Most Great. Though I don’t think God chooses sides among ethnicities.

Yet again you show your ignorance of the English language.

[qutoe]if you are Muslim you should be aware of it that you can’t name yourself with the Arabic word for God.

May I suggest you take that issue up with the very many people whose real life names have the Arabic name for God as part of their names? I think it would be a dandy (and very time-consuming) hobby for you.
[/QUOTE]

Let’s try that again, since I left out the cite.

Yet again you show your ignorance of the English language while trying to place yourself as an authority on said language.

From Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary:

Looks to me that the dude’s gotten the spelling correct. BTW, when are you going to change the spelling of your username? ISTR that someone pointed out that you misspelled that.

And we’re supposed to be TOLERANT of this?? WTF?? Folks seem to be all over themselves trying to not say anything offensive to this person (in other threads), but what kind of outrage would there be if a right-wing neocon WASP made a similar statement??

Geez…(I kept it clean because this wasn’t the Pit)…

Monty, I respectfully disagree.

Aldebaran, I believe, is saying that it would be presumptuous to name one’s self God, Allah, or anything like that. It is, however, perfectly OK to name one’s self “Servant of God” (Abdullah,) “Servant of The Merciful” (Abd Al-Rahman,) or some other such moniker that states that one is decidedly below God.

I’d have to agree that naming one’s self God is a tad presumptuous.

Aldebaran, I hope I don’t misrepresent you.

Oh, and Monty. Mr Akbar has spelled God in Arabic “Alah,” which is decidedly incorrect, even by your cite.

Not IMO. It is in profoundly bad taste and it made me twitch briefly as well.

But I’m in a pretty good mood tonight and don’t want to piss in my own cornflakes over some comments on a message board :).

Soup du jour,

You are completely right.
And this person I prefer to call by the next part of his membername doesn’t spell Allah correctly, since he spells it

A l a h

instead of

A l l a h

I’ll spare you the explanation of the Arabic grammar rules leading to this spelling.

May I also point out to the members that from the minute I saw this wrong spelling, this poster came across as someone posing as a Muslim = a fake.
And now that I have read more of his posts, I’m about convinced that this member is trying to discredit the Muslims posting on the SDMB.

If not, Akbar should re-read his postings and try to explain to me where he studied on our faith.
Salaam. A

[ot]

Then he’ll share the same name as a gay comic character. In a previous post, he already stated how he feels about gays.

The poster sounds like a stereotype of a Wahibi; infidel this, death to America that. I’ll bet the guy’s not Muslim.

[/ot]

Damned if he’s not leaving out an ‘l’ there. Well, what the hey. I still want to know why Aldie’s not hot after all the folks who, in real life, have different variations of the Arabic word for God in their own names.

I already know the rules for attaching the defininte article in Arabic. As a matter of fact, I happen to have what’s commonly referred to as reference material (or, in the parlance of the SDMB, “cite”) in front of me, to wit: Teach Yourself Arabic: a Complete Course for Beginners. See pages 29 and 30. Arabic grammar apparently as esoteric as you pretend it is, Aldebaran.

May I also say how amusing it is to me that you are requesting someone to explain to you where they studied something when you, yourself, refuse to answer such questions put to you?
