That was super fun! GG, Mental Guy: I accidentally closed the window too quickly to say it at the table.

We ended up with five players, and three people had to wait while two of us played a kind of “play-in game” like you see right before the NCAA hoops tourney begins. So I had to win three matches to take down the tourney, and in all three I was down 2-1 or worse at one point or another and had to fight my way off the ropes. Then at the end I had MG on the ropes for a long long time but he kept fighting back. Intense stuff!

@Dag_Otto and I had fun voice chatting on Discord, although we never made it to the same table. The more the merrier: I’ll post another Discord invite link on Wednesday before our regular 8pm Eastern NLHE game.

For now, let’s see if we can break our record (of eight, which we’ve had at least a couple times) tonight, since we have added Dag Otto since last week. He played on Friday (and he and I chatted on our brand new Discord server, which was fun), but tonight at 8 Eastern will be his first chance to play in our regular full-table NLHE game. For anyone who wants to jump on Discord with us (it makes it a lot easier to chat, not having to fight the PokerStars server that keeps pulling you away from the chatbox every time the action comes to you, not to mention not holding up the game while you type), here is another invite link, which as always expires within 24 hours: Discord Presumably everyone knows not to mention what cards you folded (assuming we’re not playing Showtime) until the hand is over, although if none of the players left in the hand are on Discord I suppose that’s fine.

Speaking of full-table NLHE games, we have five–count 'em, five!–such tables coming up on Friday. This, like the HU tourney, will be an experiment, but I think it will be fun. They are all “hyper-turbo” tourneys, meaning everyone gets the minimum number of chips allowed (3,000) with no rebuys, the shortest blind levels allowed (3 min), and a shorter amount of time to make decisions. The first one starts at 9:30 p.m. Eastern, then the next one at 10, and so on, with the last one getting going at 11:30. I don’t think there will be much if any overlap from one to the next, due to the huge amount of action this will create, but we’ll see.

There will be no late registration for these, but you can always go register now, or tonight when you show up for the regular Wednesday game. And for that matter, if you miss the first one, there are still four more. (If you don’t have enough play money chips to register for all of them, there’s plenty of time before Friday to get enough from the cashier, as you can go add some for free–every four hours, I think it is.) Although slower formats and deeper stacks are my favorite way to play poker, Friday nights are all about variety and I think this will be a really fun change of pace (literally).

Congrats! It was a helluva comeback.

You didn’t overtake MotherMucker/TSIMTTP for second place on the leaderboard, but you closed more than half the distance between the two of you. And had you not played, Frostedglass would have passed you for third place; had FG not played, MentalGuy would have taken over fourth place. But as it turned out, everyone stayed at the same position on the board they were at after last Friday’s game.

And speaking of Friday: I see no one has signed up yet! Are you guys seriously not as psyched for the Hyperturbo Fiesta as I am?? Or are you just waiting to register until Friday comes?

What time is Friday’s game, CST?

8:30 Central Time. Except I think it’s still CDT, right? Anyway, that’s the first game. This Friday we’re playing five of 'em: five hyperturbos, starting every half hour from 8:30 Central to 10:30 Central. Last Friday we played a HU tourney, the previous week I think was Showtime Hold’em…we have also played Razz and Stud on past Fridays. Next week I think we’ll do some PLO (pot limit Omaha)? You get the idea: Friday is “variety night”. But every Wednesday is a regular speed NLHE tourney, at 7 Central.

I’m out of town this week, so I missed last night and won’t be on this Friday, but I plan on playing more with the dopers. Hey, good to see MissTake again. I texted back and forth with Yeti, he’s doing ok and sounded interested in maybe playing again.

You did indeed! Congrats. Specifically, you won game #3, which was the first one to disabuse me of the notion that none of these hyperturbos could possibly last longer than a half hour. The first one was over in 19 minutes, the second in only 14, but that one you won “dragged on” for 38! (Then #4, with only three players, took 25 min, and #5 lasted a full 39 minutes.)

Congrats also to (not so) Poor Yorick, who really came in with a head of steam: he won the first two tourneys and came in second in the one Manson won, and TSIMTTP aka MotherMucker took down the last one of the night. (I won the fourth one, though that was worth less than wins in the others.)

Poor Yorick’s strong night allowed him to swap places on the leaderboard with eschrodinger’s, who had been just ahead of him; everyone else maintained their same position.

Next up: Wednesday night NLHE, back to a bit mellower game of deeper stacks and slower blind increases. We now have 13 players in the club with the addition of Miss Taken, so I look forward to a hopefully nice turnout! :slight_smile:

Wednesday night game starts in a little over a half hour! 8 p.m. Eastern. There is late registration for the first hour, so plenty of time for new players to sign up: just follow the instructions in the OP and mention here that you want to play.
