Come join the Memeing Tillions poker club!

Congrats to Poor Yorick, who won tonight’s tourney after a roller-coaster HU battle with TSIMTTP/MM. Dag Otto also had a good showing, finishing third. Yorick did me a solid, as I am pretty sure I would have dropped to second place in the standings had the HU battle gone the other way. Instead, the leaderboard looks the same except that Dag Otto moved up a spot.

Friday for Variety Night, we are playing pot limit Omaha (PLO) at 9:30 Eastern. If you’re not familiar with the game, I’d be glad to discuss strategy with you. It’s a wild game, with lots of flushes, full boats, even quads and straight flushes are not rare.

90ish minutes until PLO! Pot limit Omaha. Lots of action, clashes of huge hands, big draws to play on virtually every hand. It’s a rollercoaster ride–see you there at 9:30 Eastern! Still plenty of time to join the club and come play tonight: just follow the instructions in the OP of this thread and give a shout-out here to let me know you signed up.

As always, here’s an invitation link to join me on Discord, which expires in 24 hours: Discord

That was fun. I’m not a big Omaha player, and it took a while to get a feel for the game again. Though there was that one hand where I definitely wanted to declare low. Hell, even I was smart enough to know I had that locked up. Different game though.

You were killing it for quite a while there! Definitely fun, even with just three of us. Eventually we’ll get it in the rotation again, hopefully by then we can build a bigger table. Before then, though, we’ll surely play some Hi/Lo.

Leaderboard order is unchanged, although I managed to pad my lead over second place TSIMTTP/MM a bit (thanks again to him for keeping that updated).

We will of course be playing our regular weekly NLHE tourney on Wednesday at 8 Eastern.

Reminder: no-limit Hold’em at 8 Eastern. A couple recent signups have yet to play for the first time; if we get most of our regulars as well, we might have a new club-record turnout tonight! Tune in and find out. :sunglasses:

Couldn’t make Friday, sorry. But I’m here today. No flies bothering me, so I’m ready to win!

I think that’s the first chapter in Doyle Brunson’s book! Get a flyswatter before you shuffle up and deal.

yay! I won!

You did! Congrats.

Friday at 9:30 Eastern we are going to play a relatively new offering from PokerStars: 6+ Hold 'em. Cards lower than 6 are removed from the deck; A6789 counts as the lowest possible straight; and most important of all to know is that flushes beat full houses. I’ve played it a couple times, and it’s pretty fun. See you there!

I was pretty lucky tonight. Won a few races.

Has the leaderboard spreadsheet been updated? It doesn’t seem correct.

Only five minutes until we shuffle up and deal 6+ NLHE! But there’s late registration until about 10:30 Eastern, so still plenty of time.

One last reminder: FLUSHES BEAT FULL HOUSES. So if you flop a set, and then the board pairs on the river, don’t get too excited (assuming you didn’t make quads of course) if that also puts, say, four diamonds on the board. Your hand actually just got worse (in relative terms), not better. It’s basically dogshit now, unless of course you have a high diamond yourself.

I don’t know whether it was when you posted, but it looks good now. Your win didn’t technically move you up in the standings (you’re still third), but it significantly improved your position. Going into the game Wednesday, you were two points back of second place, and two and a half points behind me. Now you’re only a half point out of second, and less than a point from first.

Well, I got 1.4 points, and pooryorick got 1.9 points. Not sure how that is possible, since I’m pretty sure I won.

You got 2.6 points, but remember that only your best ten results in the past year count. So you have played more than ten times but Yorick hasn’t. That means if you only netted 1.4 points additional to your total, it probably means your previous tenth-best result was 1.2 points, but it was replaced by this one. Make sense?

This is what TSIMTTP/MM was talking about when he said new players could join and catch up fairly quickly if they did well. If we just went by total points, it would be hopeless if other players had banked up points from playing a bunch more times.

No, actually that doesn’t make sense

What part of it doesn’t make sense? Just “in a general kind of way”, to quote one of my favorite movies?

Leaderboard order is unchanged, but with my win tonight I did more than double my lead over second place MM/TSIMTTP.

What did you guys think of this poker format? I find it kind of fun, but like many variants I wouldn’t want to play it all the time.

Let’s use a simplified example of a hypothetical poker club to illustrate how this happens. In this “toy” version of the club, you can get from 1-5 points (integers only) in a tournament, and only your top three results count.

So let’s say NotManson played this toy club five times, and his results were (ranked from best to worst):

4, 3, 3, 2, 1

NotYorick played twice, and got:

3, 1

NotManson has 10 points: 4+3+3.

NotYorick has 4 points: 3+1.

Now there’s another tourney, and both players play in it. NotManson gets 5 points and NotYorick gets 3.

So now NotManson’s complete list of results is:

5, 4, 3, 3, 2, 1

The top three count, so 5+4+3 is 12 points. Although NotManson got five points in the tourney, his total for the leaderboard only went up two points, because the 5 result was exchanged for his previous third-best score, which was 3.

NotYorick’s list of results is now:

3, 3, 1

for a total of 7: 3+3+1=7.

So NotYorick’s total went up by 3, while NotManson’s went up by only two, even though NotManson did better in this particular tournament. But now that both players have the full number of tournaments that count, it shouldn’t be possible for one to do better in the tournament but for the other to have a greater increase in their point total (unless I’m missing something).

Make sense now?

I just sent in my application, as mr_pete_100

Excellent! I just approved you. (How’s that for lightning-fast service?) See you Wednesday at 8 Eastern?

Hope so. What time is that UK?
