The world is always weirder than you think it can be.
The only roast I’ve ever seen that made me laugh was Colbert’s defense of Chevy Chase.
Marilyn’s not that stupid.
Isn’t Ann Coulter laughing all the way to the bank? She rivals her hero Trump with any press exposure is a good thing, no matter how negative in the regular media.
Marginally off topic but the old Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts had a slightly different format. The roasters only talked about the guest of honor. Then the roastee had a response where he/she could talk about the roasters.
The Comedy Central Roasts is so free form that the guest of honor is almost irrelevant.
They’ll be given some jokes but they can do whatever they want when they’re up there. I think she mostly rejected the material provided and went her own way, and I think they didn’t give her what she needed. She wasn’t reacting well to all the jokes about her, she laughed at the first one and after that had some stupid forced grin on her face through the rest. If she started her own bit with some self deprecating humor she might have gained a few laughs with some of her remaining material, but even then she had no chance to get over with some of the lines she had. If she really was there just to push her stupid book then she needs a new agent.
This was a really lame panel, Jewel killed, that was a surprise, but the panel lacked in comedians with experience at this sort of thing. David Spade was unusually subdued, maybe not comfortable as the host. Pete Davidson is pretty young, I like his comedy but he’s not really there yet. Glaser, Riggle, and the English guy did ok but just didn’t hit that hard. It really was more of a roast of Coulter than Lowe. I will say Jeff Ross was a little less annoying than usual. We heard the same jokes about Lowe over and over again, nothing all that personal there, every body else got hit harder than Lowe did, maybe because his career has been a non-stop roast already.
I watched this last night, and please don’t mistake this for a defense of Ann Coulter— she’s a miserable, hateful human being with no redeeming qualities and her jokes and delivery really did suck— but it did seem like they applied some creative editing with the panel and audience reaction shots to intensify the appearance of bombing. I wouldn’t be shocked if they muted the audio as well.
Dubbing in actual cricket sounds would’ve been a bit much…
That was the worst audio/video synch I’ve ever watched.
I’m surprised she showed up at liberal central.
I wonder if she helped with the ratings of the laugh-a-minute roasts, after all, that’s the only reason they asked her to be on.
She’s an attention whore, good or bad.
Jeffrey Ross is actually a really nice guy and I believe him that they tried to edit it in her favor and help her by telling her to laugh more. She just wasn’t up for it despite being there.
What? I thought Coulter has historically been pretty clear on the fact that she* is *a bigot, and that is the point. I ain’t clicking on a Daily Caller link, so I don’t know or care what she said now.
I have no idea what Coulter’s said. I was talking about the comments on the article, which quite predictably went that way.
It looked like he turned and said something to her a couple of times in an effort to engage her in the jokes and make it seem all in fun, but all he got in response was her terrifying rictus.
Jeopardy Answer: The lowest rated show in the history of The Cannibal Channel.
Correct Question: “What is the Comedy Central Roast of Ann Coulter?”
Probably the same attic that holds John Stamos, and Ralph Macchio’s portraits.
Enjoy,
Steven
New Orleans TV host Anne Cutler gets Twitter hate tweets aimed at Ann Coulter because people on Twitter should be spayed and neutered.
I’m online-acquainted with one of the show’s producers. According to him, they really did try to rescue her part with edits. The live crowd was awful to her.
I believe it. I hope to one day see an unedited version.
Ann Coulter’s time at the mic was one of the funniest stretches of time I’ve experienced all year, at least. It was kinda like one of those awful Tim&Eric sketches that are just annoying and awkward, but they commit to it for so long that it’s somehow supposed to be funny - except in this case it was executed perfectly, and it was just hilarious beyond reason.
Her joke-not-joke about her plugging her book. Her expecting to get traction by ragging on Manning’s politics. The utterly grim faces of the audience. The moment (at the beginning) of shock at the audience reaction, and then saying, “pause for boos”. Every moment a multifaceted gem of horror and comedy.
