I thought it was as Enalzi said. They needed a unanimous vote to kick him out, and Annie’s red card saved him from being kicked out.
Rewatching it onHulu:
Annie: **The Ace of Hearts
**
Jeff: King of Spades
Abed: Jack of Clubs
Britta: Queen of Spades
Shirley: Ace of Clubs
Troy: King of Clubs
I wonder if the writers made Shirley and Troy clubs so as to avoid any accusations of racism. (Spade is a derogatory term for black people.)
That is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
Incidentally, if you want to skip ahead to the relevant part…
1800s style disney racism.
I wondered that too.
I also wonder if Pierce funded it. Not to go Abed, but the movie is in many ways an homage to The Quick and the Dead in which rich bad guy John Herod (Gene Hackman) is lord of a small town and offers $100,000 cash, which he has every intention of winning himself, to the last man standing in a round robin gunslinger competition. Pierce clearly has his own town (Fort Hawthorne) and from what’s been said earlier could probably swing $100,000 cash as a prize. Herod kills a man brought in (by townfolk) as a ringer in Q&D, and Pierce killed the ringer tonight (though Herod outdrew him, Pierce dry gulched him).
Either way, I hope somehow they pay homage to the simultaneously “oh yeah right!” and “Cool!” polka dot shadow scene in Q&D next week.
Well, the analogy to The Quick and the Dead, which is not exactly that strong to begin with, is going to take a further hit when the guys dressed up like extras from Outbreak come rolling in.
the only problem with that theory is that pierce killed his own ringer.
Well, he’s Chevy Chase, not Gene Hackman.
There were numerous western homages tonight. Chevy reminded me a bit of Brian Dennehy from Silverado for instance, and of course the spaghetti westerns. There was also some Tarantino- who really needs to do a western (arguably he has, but I mean classic 19th century setting).
Next week looks like they’re shifting gears to Star Wars.
Next week the theme shifts, so there won’t be any problems with identifying the Western. Part Two will be identify the SciFi movie.
Damn that was quick; I just suggested it a few hours ago. (He must do a lot with improv.)
I was thinking about this the other day. Right now I have about 4 “favorite” sitcoms. The Big Bang Theory makes me laugh the most consistently. Modern Family has the best balance of humor, cast, plot, and character development. How I Met Your Mother often feels like an extension of or commentary on my social circle. And Community never ceases to amaze me. Its ability to deconstruct the sitcom format while telling a compelling, often hilarious story, and still managing to probe the depth of all its characters is truly mesmerizing.
It’s a good time to be alive.
if you think HIMYM comments on your social circle, do you also enjoy ABC’s “Happy Endings”? Or the grittier, harsher, drunker/druggier, lower-earning Comedy Central series “Workaholic”?
I just had a thought while watching this again.
It’s an easy guess to think that City College is involved, there’s also another theory that Pierce is doing this. Here’s my thought: Pierce is sponsoring the paintball game so Annie will win. He hires the ringer to ensure that she gets the prize. She needs the money for a place to live and to pay for school and they bonded earlier.
The only thing about this is that the TV Handsome stranger and Annie had that little showdown in the classroom. It’s possible that he did it to draw out her friends to eliminate them.
Or I could be way off. Either way.
True, she lives in a bad neighborhood. I’m half-expecting her to skip the paintball crap and pull a real gun on someone.
again, nullified because pierce shot the ringer. BUT it would agree with MY twisted interpretation that Annie had voted pierce out, and pierce then shot his ringer after finding out that annie voted Pierce red. of course all of this is even MORE nullified with the stormtroopers.
I rewatched it. They definately needed a unanimous vote to kick out Pierce, and Annie’s vote is the one that saved him. There isn’t any other way to parse the dialogue so it makes sense.
yeah, just rewatched it too. def kick OUT. it would have been a lot more interesting if it was the other way around though… to have annie break pierce’s heart like that.
Last year’s paintball episode pretty much covered that ground I think. They are two for two. Loved this one as much as that one.
