Compare pictures from Holocaust with Gaza-pictures in a mail ?

The comparison actually works against the argument, since it is so disingenuous that it is easier to dismiss.

I am sure the Norwegian embassy staff member will find themselves out of a job.

I agree, though, that the recent pictures should still be seen, in isolation - without the emotive captions, but in context. As well as the aftermath of attacks against the Israeli side too (perhaps in proportion to the damage inflicted?).

A very few of them make it into the UK mainstream media. I would imagine countries with more pro-Israel More may see even less than us.

The people who will agree? Well, I’d imagine they already have that opinion: I have heard several intelligent people I know here in the UK use “genocide” in earnest about this action. It’s clearly not, but at this stage I consider it a massacre, and collective punishment, which is criminal in itself.

I’ll admit, it takes a lot of guts to write something like this. Looks like you’re an expert so I’ll ask you - my brother and father were held at concentration camp in 1992. After 3 months, my brother (and about 20% of the camp population) got shot in the back of the head and my father survived due to efforts of Red Cross. The question is, at what percentage of deaths would you allow for someone to name that concentration camp, a death camp? 30% maybe? Or, 50% plus 1? Or, considering it’s just some southern Europeans whose origins are questioanble anyway, it would take all 100%? Would million of Jews deaths in WWII be more acceptable than 6?

The horror of your - and some other people - words is despicable. Just hope you’re never in concetration camp.

On another note, considering what happened to the “comparison”, looks like in the case of Palestinians it is really all good, it really doesn’t matter on what side of the fence you are. That’s how good it is. I think there’s some Dopers who are right now willing to expirience the so called “suffering” of the Palestinians as we speak - only to prove a point, that is.

You are unclear here.

Are you saying your family is Palestinian and that the Israelis placed them in a concentration camp (presumably something more prison like than Gaza is) and then at a later date the Israelis summarily executed 20% of the camp by shooting them in the head? And in the camp the Red Cross was also running about and was able to stop further killings by the Israelis after they had shot a fifth of the camp?

Thank you.

No. My family is from Bosnia. Regardless, the point of the question stays.

At a guess, his family lived in the former Yugoslavia and were caught in the brutality of the civil war following its dissolution.

Not really.

Gaza is not a concentration camp despite some saying it has similarities. They are generally not welcome in Israel but presumably Egypt could let them in. There is some trade. Hell, apparently getting missiles in there is not too difficult. The population of Gaza are not prisoners. Israelis are not walking around with death squads summarily shooting their captive prisoners.

This is not the Pit, so I’ll be mild.

Some of the comparisons go out of their way to deliberately distort the facts. Notice, for instance, the juxtaposed pictures of a Hitler Youth and an Israeli girl writing a message on a bomb that was destined for Hezbollah, a group dedicated to the genocide of the Jews. They’re actually trying to equate support for a genocidal regime with opposition to a genocidal regime.

Notice also the juxtaposition of a young Jewish child in Nazi Germany with guns pointed at him (at a time when the German Jews weren’t using children as suicide bombers) with a picture of a Palestinian child who has peed his pants. I thought I recognized that photo.
Turns out I did.
It’s a photo of a child who was, moments before, throwing rocks. Now with that bit of context taken out, it’s clear to see why someone throwing rocks at other people (and then wetting his pants because he’s scared he got caught) is a bit different from a Jewish child in Nazi Germany in trouble because he’s a Jew.

It should also be noted that the last picture doesn’t actually show an IDF soldier pointing his rifle at a child (track where the muzzle points it’s not even close). And he doesn’t have his finger on the trigger. He’s simply a soldier at the ready with a child talking to him.

This is a shameful bit of agenda-driven distortion.
And I’ll generally hold my tongue unless this gets moved to a better forum for discussing its content.

Yup, works now.

I still think it’s bullshit comparison. I could compile photos like that - fences, armed person, wounded and killed children etc. from any conflict on Earth. Russian like Nazi, Georgians like Nazi, American like Nazi, Egyptians like Nazi… Even UN peace corps as Nazi.

I missed the memo where the jews denied Germany’s right to exist.

As far as the concentration camp argument goes, Gaza shares a border with Egypt, things would have been different if Dachau had shared a border with Swizterland

The border with Egypt is also closed off. It’s a funny thing, but when you act hostile people tend to distrust you for some reason…

I would call that a death camp.

I very sorry for your loss and wish mine and other countries would have done more at the time to stop the horror.

I view the actions of Israel towards Gaza as a dispicable act. My only point is to say that comparisons to the Holocaust do no good whatsoever.

Yes, but when Egypt decides whether or not it wants the border with Gaza open… it’s Israel’s fault then too.

Of course it is. What do you expect? They (the Israeli’s) are just like Nazis after all…

I think you mean Nazi zombies !

Should have gone to the beach…

And who many died in german consentration camps?

I don’t know if any Who’s died but the number was in the millions. What exactly is your point…assuming you have one?

Republican politican Pat Buchanan calls Gaza a Concentration Camp in a TV-interview

And so…your point would be…?
