Dotty, I have no idea what that song means. But thanks for sending it. I tried to google it but didn’t get very far. Good luck with cleaning your computer.
Ewwww! and Ouchie! Get picture out of head!
**
Lili**, while that’s a beautiful picture of Haze, not only is she by herself, there’s nothing in the background to indicate that she isn’t in her back yard. I guess I should have given more explicit instructions about those photos. There needs to be more than one Doper in each and have some background reference to the place.
You will indeed have lots of company from people around these parts. Heck, some of them will be driving the bus there.
Healing thoughts going out to PapaTigs for his acid reflux.
swampy, I’m impressed with your certificate, but I’m more impressed that you were either able to type in all that information about the grading or found somewhere to copy it from. Either way, very impressive.
Another ST TNG fan. Yay!
Sunspace, Happy Birthday!!
**
Smooth Jack**, most of your sentences in that last post were complete non-sequiturs. You’re gonna fit in here just fine.
Now that definitely requires a story.
FCM, thanks for the rubber band. twang . . . . thwack. . . ow hehe.
ems, congrats on the functioning company computer! (I won’t make an oxymoronic joke here, but I thought about it)
Good day here. I’ll be back with the song later.
Swampbrain–I’ll bet you could get extra credit for tying your shoes correctly. Dividing negative numbers? Ha! Who would want to divide less than nothing? Makes no sense to me…
SmoothJack–you want acceptance yet you come in here with those (well named) demon bugs? Fie on you! Away, sirrah! SCL–this really isn’t funny, but I read your post as Libby’s sister died in her SUV the first time through. Yikes! Haze looks a bit hazy. She’s either got a good buzz going or the photographer does.
VunderGuy–I feel this must be said. WTF is VWife’s problem? May she never have a broken ankle and need EMS. She’s filling me with grrrr…
Am home from work. I meant to call the doctor for an appt, but I fell asleep–waking up at 0415 will do that. Work again in am. Joy–but there is the money and all.
Like the names for the turtles. I loved Sherman and Mr Peabody–and #2 son does too!
I’m pink because I’m a rose - but pink, even bolded pink doesn’t show up well, so I’m also magenta
The rubber band was a response to my “easily pleased” comment at the top of page 5 - sometimes, that’s all it takes - especially when I’m overtired
So tonight at rehearsal, we did a run through of the 3, possibly 4, songs we’ll be singing at the convention in September - and I was on the risers the whole time (about half an hour total which included the “walk ons” which we did twice)- and this was after having been up for a half hour earlier in the evening (after which I sat for half an hour) My feet hurt something fierce, and I was schvitzing a fountain, but my knees were able to take it. I am, it seems, successfully building up my “standmina”
I was petting Nordberg on the couch when dad came over with the flea spray. I flipped the puppy over onto her back and opened her legs. Dad pointed the spray bottle at her and started going to town. Except it wasn’t. It was pointing sideways.
I have pictures that have other Dopers, Mr. Lissar just hasn’t made them not be in the camera. So I’ll get them loaded up sometime tomorrow maybe.
Off to bed.
Mmm. Peanut butter cups sound good.
It’s 11:00, and the heat index is 89. Almost nobody showed up at work today, employee or customer. Of course you’d have to be a special kind of insane to go out when the heat index is 113.
Rosie, yay for standing! I always do you in red, because I forget about magenta.
Hi Jack! Eat the cups, and put the empties back where you found them. No bugs.
I’ll keep Libby in my prayers, SCL. We have some 2/$1 items, hence the signs and the confusion: “Surely this sign that says Vienna Sausages 2/$1 means that the 19oz. Campbell’s soup 4 feet away is the same price!!” :dubious:
Ickkkk…house centipedes. I never knew they were actually different from silverfish. They are both ickkk.
Glad to hear there’s a little ray of hope, SCL. Lots of good thoughts and prayers still going out for all of you.
Tell Mr. Lissar to hurry up with the pictures, LiLi. Doesn’t he know we’re waiting impatiently?
Welcome, Smoothie.
Happy Birthday, SolarOne! And congrats on the certificate.
Sorry about VW being grumpy, Bobbio. And good on you again for doing what you do. It’s important!
Congrats, smartbear. And add me to the chorus of people who say they aren’t surprised.
Baby is still on the way. They went to the hospital for a couple of hours tonight, but they said she’s not dilated enough. Local Best Friend (for those of you wondering whose baby we’re waiting for) could have stayed, but preferred to go home (they live maybe 2 minutes away). Hurry up, baby!!! We want to meet you. Soon-to-be grandma’s getting worried and assuming her daughter (who hasn’t been the one on the phone giving us updates) is nervous and exhausted and doing terribly. It’s more likely that she’s very calm, going through some frustration periodically, then going back to calm and determined. There’s a reason the soon-to-be grandparents are staying with me. I just really hate waiting and am always worried that something will go wrong or get complicating.
Well, it’s late again and I should be asleep already.
Hey Dotty, happy weekend to you! Any fun adventures planned? Since my weekend doesn’t start for another day, I have a while to go. But here is my song for the night: Nature Boy. It’s definitely a Nat King Cole week.
[Nat King Cole]There was a boy…
A very strange enchanted boy.
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea,
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he.[/Nat King Cole]
Good night everyone! Have a happy Friday!
[singing]Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff,
and brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. Oh
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee …[/singing]
Kate Bush - you couldn’t find anything about old Kate??? I would provide a linky-poo, but my internets are still playing silly-buggers with me. Will try again later. Otherwise, search wikipedia. I guess I’m showing my age, posting songs from old Kate!!!
Done. I found an interview with Kate Bush about the song Babooshka. Evidently, it’s a song about a wife who suspected her husband of infidelity, so she created this alter ego character called Babooshka which was a very old woman. So the man went to meet this woman and saw his former wife in this woman and loved her. Kate Bush says it’s about the paranoia that people entertain that creates their own dramas. The husband wasn’t unfaithful to her. . . she was just imagining it.
Fascinating!
Thanks for the Puff! song. I’m getting sleepy. Those are good lullabyes.
My contribution to the musical portion of the MMP:
[singing]Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky-tacky,
Little boxes, little boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
There’s a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they’re all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.
And the people in the houses
All go to the university,
And they all get put in boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
And there’s doctors and there’s lawyers
And business executives,
And they’re all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.
And they all play on the golf-course,
And drink their Martini dry,
And they all have pretty children,
And the children go to school.
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
And they all get put in boxes
And they all come out the same.
And the boys go into business,
And marry, and raise a family,
And they all get put in boxes,
Little boxes, all the same.
There’s a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they’re all made out of ticky-tacky
And they all look just the same.[/singing]
Happy birthday, Sunspace!, and congratulations on that other thing…have I missed the cake? Y’know, cake makes excellent breakfast…just sayin’.
Welcome, Smooth Jack - is it all over or just in places? Enquiring minds, and al that. And don’t mind Rigsby, she’s just being cantankerous, it’s too early in the day for her.
Swampy - how does it feel to be officially clever? I have a certificate at home that says I’m sane but most of my friends think it must be a forgery.
Did I tell you I’m going to Belgium today for a long weekend? Well, I am! In about an hour I have to head off to catch a train down to London then get the tube to Waterloo (wonder if Zelie will be driving it?) and then catch the Eurostar through to Brussels, and then get a local train to Antwerp. Good thing I like trains, right?
I’m planning a relaxing weekend of socialising (I have friends over there to visit), a bit of shopping and I’ve promised myself a Sunday morning visit to the zoo. Antwerp has a fantastic zoo, it’s one of my favourites, and the gardens are lovely
so it’s the perfect place to walk off the excesses of Saturday night!
Just make sure you behave yourselves while I’m gone, and don’t go upsetting FCM else she’ll throw things at you!
BooFae, it would be cool if it was zelie, and she let you sit up front and make train noises over the intercom.
[Off key singing]
The sun is hot and that old clock is movin’ slow
And so am I
The workday passes like molasses in wintertime
But it’s July
I’m gettin’ paid by the hour and older by the minute
My boss just pushed me over the limit
I’d like to call it somethin’
I think I’ll just call it a day
Pour me somethin’ tall and strong
Make it a hurricane before I go insane
It’s only half past twelve but I don’t care
It’s 5 O’clock somewhere
[/OKS]
Up and caffeinating here too. Today is the day that I go in for the fine needle biopsy of my thyroid; it’s at 1 PM. I’m nervous and anxious, naturally, so any good thoughts and vibes would be greatly appreciated, especially calming ones!
Wile E, the kitten’s eyes seem to have healed up nicely! Boy is he cute too!! Congrats to LunaV on getting such a wonderful companion.
And Congrats too to Smarty-pantsSwampy!
SCL, Libby remains in my prayers.
Happy Birthday Sunspace!!!
I know I’m forgetting - again - chalk this time up to my anxiety. My nearly 20 YO son is on his way to Little Rock AR, to Philander Smith College. I do wish I could have gone along, but it was a six week wait (nearly) for my biopsy appointment and I didn’t want to have to re-schedule it. I didn’t know when the orientation was when I made the appointment. At any rate, he’s headed there as a junior, with two years of community college under his belt already. Keep him in your thoughts too, that he’ll do well in his studies!
