Cones on the Loose - an orange MMP

I could have sworn that was the cows. :stuck_out_tongue:

Dotty, I’m off to bed a little early tonight. I hope you had a good night’s sleep and are having a good morning.

And for the morning/evening song, it’s another Nat King Cole favorite. It seems like a Nat King Cole kind of week, I guess.

[Nat King Cole]When I fall in love it will be forever
Or Ill never fall in love
In a restless world like this is
Love is ended before its begun[/Nat King Cole]

Have a great day!

Good night everyone else!

Prayers headed Libby’s way, SCL. And she is indeed lucky to have a friend like you.

I am getting sick to death of this idiot lawyer who, for 250 pages now, has been objecting to two out of three questions asked. And there’s not a single valid objection in the lot. All it does is slow things down; they could have been done with these two witnesses in 75 pages if she’d just shut up. All I can figure is her client (a large company with very deep pockets) wants to get their money’s worth out of her.

I just realized I only have a month till the craft show with FCM! Eek! I’ve got to start knitting up some quicker, easy-to-sell stuff staf! I’ve been spending too much time playing with gorgeous but difficult lace, I fear.

{{{{{SCL}}}}}}. Prayers headed Libby’s way.

More later folks.

[singing]… and so many moonlight kisses
seem to cool in the warmth of the sun …[/singing]

Hey everyone, I tried to post before I left on Sunday, but the board wouldn’t let me in. This is the first I have been online since then, y’all don’t seem as chatty as during the last couple of weeks, meaybe I can sorta keep up…but probably not. So far I have just skimmed.

Very entertaining OP boofae, and I second (or third or how ever many) the yays on participating, a good cause, a good time, what’s not to give a thumbs up on?

My flight out of Kodiak was bumpy…I do not like bumpy flights. I brought Satine (Pomeranian for anyone who doesn’t know) with me, she was one of three dogs onboard, and the only one allowed in the cabin. One was in a crate which could have held a small pony, the other a white chihuahua cross which was big enough itself to make Satine look tiny. Anyway, we leveled out and the ride was fairly uneventful, about twenty five minutes out of Anchorage we were flying over some big puffy white clouds and the sun was shining brightly from the port side of the plane, I was sitting starboard. Suddenly I was able to see the shadow o9f the plane on the clouds surrounded by concentric circles of rainbow, it was really pretty, and I was doing my “Thanks for letting me see this, God”. About fifteen minutes out of Anchorage we hit turbilance, no more pretty rainbows, just pewter colored sea and bouncing all over. I held onto the back of the seat in front of me and just about bit through my lip, and it ocured to me to mention to God that I was just being grateful for the pretty sight, did He really need to hear my prayers for a soft landing?

Well, we landed all right, collected my luggage and off we went. It has been busy catching up with my kids and my friends, and it is H O T in Anchorage, my friends. All of my whining about the cold wet summer, I take it all back. I can’t breathe. It was 72 F today, which I know isn’t anything to most of you, but the highs have been in the lower 50’s F all summer, so I am dying.

My kid should be right back with some take out pasta and salad, so I’ll say by for now. SCL I am so sorry and you, Libby and family/friends remain in my prayers, everyone else enjoy your week, I promise to let you now when the baby comes, ta for now.

[Kiss Me Kate]I’d like to coo with my baby tonight,
And pitch the woo with my baby tonight.
I’d like to coo with my baby tonight,
And pitch the woo with my baby tonight.
But sister you’ll fight my baby tonight
'Cause it’s too darn hot.
It’s too darn hot.[/KMK]

Wo-MAAAAN! Wenches serve wine…
wenches serve beer…
wenches serve…

man-kind,
but not for free!

Sorry, canine servant, I don’t have her phone number or the slightest idea where she is now.

SCL and Libby - she’s lucky to have a friend like you, and we’ll be thinking of her over the coming days.

Dotty - awful news about the 'rents neighbours, that sort of thing is so sad.

VBob - sad news for you too, but you must have done your best for the poor woman.

It finally cooled off a little yesterday evening so I had a bit more sleep than the last couple of nights. The only air-con in the house involves opening the windows 'cos we’s not all sophisticated like you lot are! Actually we rarely get really hot weather here and not enough of it to justify running air-con so we make do with open windows and fans instead.

I’m away this weekend so last night I went round to my friend’s place to drop off spare house keys as she’s volunteered to feed the fuzzbutts for me. They won’t be happy about it as it means less fuss for them, although she’s a bit of a softie so there might be more treats than usual. No doubt by the time we’re back they’ll be sulking about something or other. Must be the nature of cats.

CanineManservant - I had to turn on the volume for that crazy cat lady clip, I wanted to hear what 130 cats sounded like!

Did I actually see meli back there somewhere? ::waves:: We’ve missed you.

It’s HOT here too. Mid-90s and not really cooling off much at night (it was 80 this morning). It’s supposed to get down into the 80s Friday, but we have a heat advisory until then. I still need to mow my lawn, but I can barely stand to be out there.

Off to get ready for work…

GT

pounds tankard on bartop

Wench! More Pepsi!

and…and some of that delectable crumb cake I saw under the display over there, please…

Pepsi?

That wasn’t on the list, mister. Beer or wine. And we card!

I got yer Pepsi. . . . right here!

Up and caffeinating and just about ready to go. Husband went through [del]an obsessive and paranoid [/del] a very thorough inspection of the house. I have a feeling we’ll be halfway through Arizona and he’ll panic and ask if I cleaned behind the fridge. Heh.

Take it easy Mumpers, see you on Friday! waves

Mead! And a leg o’ lamb!

I love firefighting in full turnout in this heat.

Last night I was paged for a raging, out of control brushfire. Typically, a standard brushfire warrants one station until we know otherwise, but Heavy-Thumbed Harry was dispatching, and because this one Was So Big, he also paged Hooterville and the rescue squad.

I rode the second engine out of the station, about 90 seconds after the first. This fire was so big, in fact that by the time I got there, the guys from the other truck had the hose charged and the fire out. Hooterville never got out of the station before it was over. To be generous, the area burned was maybe as big as the floor of my garage.

 towards the dispatcher…

Having been in both situations now, I’d rather be in my gear, drenched, in freezing weather, than in my gear dry in upper 90s temperatures… Oh, the cause was a loose transformer wire on a line pole that hit a guy wire. The short to the ground sparked the undergrowth.

SCL, how’s Libby? The abdominal fluid is a sign of organ failure, and from what you’ve said, her kidneys are going. It is also common for liver failure, too.

Prayers and hugs for Libby headed out.

Today I meet the illustrious Haze. I’m going to buy butter tarts and nanaimo bars for her enjoyment, and maybe make some iced tea. I was going to bake a cake, but it’s very sticky and humid here today. Bought goodies will have to do.

I’m going out for dinner with Haze (of course), Sunspace, Kythereia, and Cerowyn tonight. It’s very exciting! A Dopefest! With poutine and butter tarts! And probably beer for everyone but me.
Before the Important Arrival around four, I have to do the laundry, try to unpack more, and maybe sort through some shirts to figure out which ones I’ve grown out of in the last few weeks. The joy of pregnancy.

Middlebro has always liked kids, even when he was one; this came in handy for Lilbro, since his elder brother didn’t start having a problem with the li’l one tagging along until they were both in their teens.

So for him, his wife’s terror of having kids for the first few years of their marriage (until she got an “all clear” on a genetic analysis re. some illness that a cousin of her dad’s has) was a painful point for him. Once she’d decided to get pregnant, though, they got a hole in one - and bro was out of his skin with joy, but figured there wasn’t much of a chance of another one… or two, maybe?

One day that he came to Mom’s for lunch, he was grinning so hard he could barely eat. He finally fessed up that the night before, his wife, who likes very tight clothes, had decided to set aside some of the clothes she’d been used mid-pregnancy “for the next pregnancy”…

So my cat, who does not deign to kill insects in the apartment despite my repeated requests, was out on the balcony this morning and caught a GIANT bug. So what did she do with it? She grabbed it and RAN in the house with it.

So not only does she not kill indoor bugs, she actually brings more bugs from outside in. Great.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! wile e, I see your name is carved right next to mine on the Hell’s bench I foresee occupying.

qb, I loved your kitteh pic. Did you post it?

li-li, don’t forget pics!

I gots to work on an RFP this morning and then have a staff meeting at noon. Bleh! No rest for the wicked.

Wait, what? When did we get a serving wench? Awesome!

Wench! A tankard of ale! And an MLT! That’s a mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe – they’re so perky, I love that.

What?

[sub]Hey, is she allowed to glare at me like that?[/sub]
So, awake, caffeinated, taking some verbal supplements. 'Tis Hump Day for most, though the long weekend has rendered my hump-day into a hump-moment, in that nanosecond right between 11:59:59 and 12:00:00 tonight – but it’s hardly a price to pay for a short week. I got quite a bit of sleep over the weekend, but trouble sleeping Monday night led to about running on 2 hours of sleep for Tuesday. The catch-up I played over the weekend was mostly spend on that, so now I’m back to straddling the “well rested” and “sleep deprived” line again.

LiLi - I’m going to have to make a Dopefest one of these days. It’s a shame I’ll miss Hank though – HI, HANK!

Bobbio - Was the dispatcher relying on a caller’s description when he dispatched everyone?

Well, yes, but he’s also got a bad reputation for being a little power-crazy with the pages, and in general. He also got himself into a jam outside of the dispatcher’s office where he declared himself to be the incident commander at a traffic accident because he was the self-appointed county Emergency Coordinator; a position he’s wanted since the last person to hold the job resigned, and is still open.

He’s a 911 dispatcher, a pro EMT in the neighboring county, and a volunteer at home. Incident Command is a function of seniority, holding an office in a department, and overall jurisdiction. Three things that HTH lacked at the time.

Ack, don’t have time to catch up, as there is a line of people behind me waiting to use the hostel computer, but just wanted to say hi! Miss you all! smooch
