Well, it was a good show, but Mandy Patinkin was the heart and soul of it. If he’s leaving, I really see no reason why I should keep watching it.
He’s not just leaving…he’s leaving. I’m soooo bummed. That last scene kinda blew my mind.
You’re right. He’ll be a tough act to follow.
Yeah, it just seems wasteful and kind of stupid. I’m pretty disgusted (y’know, in relative terms.)
I’ve been a fan of Mandy’s for years, but it seems to me that he doesn’t stay very content when doing TV shows, and tends to leave them relatively quickly. It makes me wonder why he does TV at all.
However, that said, I thought tonight’s episode was interesting - not one of their best, but not bad. There wasn’t enough Garcia, though.
I’m nuts about her. My husband doesn’t think she’s da bomb but I do!
Wouldn’t you love to see her hook up with Devastatingly Hot Black Man?
NOOOOOoooo! He’s the only reason I watch! I haven’t seen it yet. (it comes on at 9:00, it’s only 7:45) I’ll stay out of the thread until it’s over.
I’m hoping that its not conclusive, that conclusion and all - we have next week to see.
But, what a pit in my gut that left… I am wondering how the show will fair without him - and that conclusion would be totally unsatisfying… enough so that that alone would keep me from continuing.
I’m a huge Patinkin fan–have several of his CD’s but he does have a rep for being a bit twitchy on Tv shows. Joe Mantegna is coming on and he’s also always a great actor, so I’m cautiously optimistic.
Well, it HAS been pretty widely reported that Joe Mantegna is replacing him. I’ve known for at least 6 weeks, and I’m no Hollywood insider. Or AM I???
Joe
I’m really oblivious to movie/TV gossip. There are very few actors I would recognize if they ran over me.
I had to google Joe Mantegna to see who he might be. I won’t be watching any more, I’m afraid.
The waters are too full of sharks…
Fortunately, what happened in last season’s finale did give the writers a fairly natural opening for explaining why Gideon might crack up and leave.
My husband & I both love Garcia. I wouldn’t mind seeing her hook up with DHBM, but I’d almost rather have them (finally) do a “behind the character” episode with her - I think they’ve done one for everyone else - where she HAS a Devastatingly Hot Man already in her life. Just because.
Certainly, and the show opened with him ‘coming back’ after some form of breakdown/forced leave - so I have no problem with him ‘retiring’ - I just think where they were headed with this episode is out of charector and vindictive of the writers/producers (punishment of Patinkin instead of a thoughtful treatment of Gideon).
I agree with everything all of y’all have said. At dinner last night I commented to my husband how Mandy is my favourite part of the show, and then was SHOCKED by the end. Like Indyellen says though, my husband said he wasn’t too surprised, since it seems to have been his MO to get bored and leave any tv show he’s on. Too bad.
And I totally agree that as fun as it would be to see Garcia hooked up with DHBM, the idea of her already having a DHM at home is really very nice. And I think the fun, light ongoing flirting with the obvious underlying deep respect would really be ruined if anything did happen between them.
Garcia has mentioned going on dates in the past, so I don’t know if she has an SO. I like the interplay between her and DHBM (Derrick Morgan). I love seeing a zaftig female who is both smart and sexy and who damn well knows it on TV.
The team figures out who the Unsub is, and Gideon is making himself nuts because they didn’t realize that a suicidal student would confront the guy and kill them both? How unrealistic is that?
No - They hoped that the ‘copy cat’ would confront the unSub - they hoped to get the unSub to do something that they could charge them with - they did not intend for the copycat to kill both the unSub and herself - “it was not the outcome they hoped for”.
Gideon isn’t making himself ‘nuts’ over that in particular - Since the death of his freind - he sees her everywhere and no longer has hope in the outcome - he only sees the deaths and not the ‘happy faces’, and now, he also has doubts about the entire ‘profile’ thing - “what if we were wrong” (or in his own abilities to profile, etc…)
BTW, this was a re-editing of the episode “Doubt” which was shot last year and originally supposed to air April 25, 2007, but was postponed after the Virginia Tech massacre. “Bones” had a similar plot line planned for that week (finding a skelton under a college sports playing field) but it was postponed and hasn’t aired yet.
See, I don’t see her being an incurable flirt if she’s got it goin’ on with a permanent guy. I think maybe she has a healthy dating life, but there’s an underlying sincerity on both DHBM’s and her side. There’s a vibe going on there that should not be ignored by the writing team!
But if it doesn’t work out for them, I’m here to console him. Jayzuz but he’s hot.
Really? Rats, I’d heard rumours that Harvey Keitel would be coming on to replace him. That was a few weeks ago though.
I haven’t heard any rumors, but this one intrigues me. However, I can’t see Harvey Keitel giving up his creative freedom for a comparatively stuffy TV gig.
