Custom Licence Plates — Seen in the Wild

Maybe short for “Patricia”?
Maybe “triage” was already taken?

I described that plate as a 9/11 Memorial Plate because that’s what it’s officially called, but for those unfamiliar with it, the design is a patriotic American flag motif. So with that in mind, I could kind of see it as an attempt to “take back” the expression, and say “Yeah, I oppose Trump and I’m proud of it” (Not that that would be an unpopular opinion around here).

Saw ED WARDO in the grocery store parking lot this morning.

SV RLTR on a Tesla S. Could be for Silicon Valley. Or Sunnyvale.

Scored a couple today

  • LORD2 on a 5-character surfer booster plate on a bright Barney-purple Corvette. My thought was “Good Lord, man! Have you no taste!”

  • EEKOJ on a 5-character save the whales booster plate on a Tesla. It might just be an ordinary series plate, but I’m betting the owner’s first name starts with J and they’re an eco- kinda person.

I’ve seen a few over the last month that are almost certainly just somebody’s three initials. Not worth mentioning. Must. Try. Harder. People.

Not much action recently, but here’s some more:

  • 1⎵PLUSH on a NJ standard plate on a middle-aged Mercedes. No clue.

  • GREEN⎵WM on a MA (?) standard plate on a SUV. Bill evidently sucks at clever.

  • MMM⎵1085 on a PA standard plate on a SUV. I’m thinking it’s a normal series plate, but when I saw it I had to think of our @Mean_Mr.Mustard.

Must be a boxer - UPACUT

Saw one other one recently but the car was more interesting than the custom plate and I had to figure what the car was. I think was a Autozam AZ-1 - Wikipedia also known as the Suzuki Cara. This example had right hand drive and the big spoiler on the back. So was probably the Mazdaspeed variant.

As a limited production early 90’s vehicle sold only in Japan, I know I’ve never seen one before. It reminded me of a rounded plumped-up Toyota MR-2 of the same era.

The plate? BUBBLER. Which seemed to fit its inflated bubble-like shape.

Those are kinda cute! They look like an MR-2 that had been recently stung by a bee.

“Bubbler” is also regional term for “drinking fountain”, used in Wisconsin and Massachusetts.

Very cute. In pink or kawaii it’d be the ultimate silly 19yo Japanese chick car. They’re also quite small in all dimensions. Longer and wider than a Smart Car, but not much. Being sporty they’re lower than a Smart Car.

The 40-something bearded dude driving it looked more like a slightly eccentric college professor. His was two-tone white with cream accents.

For as brief a model run as the Cara had, there are two distinct styles. One is sort of angular and in terms of shape only reminds me of a Subaru Brat. The other body style is round and plump. Most online pix of the thing show the angular ones.

Several days’ accumulation.

MI6 AZ6 Michigan plates so presumably a snowbird.

O IM L8 Shoulda left earlier.

OHGIRL Self-explaining.

DE3 SUNS Phoenix Suns plate. Player’s initials and number, maybe? I know nothing about the team.

Saw one on the way home today that looked like LDSFDS so I thought it was just a couple’s initials. But then it could have been LOSFDS, which might be something else entirely, I dunno.

Actually had a decent list today:

LIBRE on a “Stop Child Abuse” specialty plate attached to a car that ran a red light

MELODIE on a small dark SUV

Your CHARIOT Awaits - the “your” and “awaits” were some sort of sticker on either side of the plate. Same car also had a bumper sticker about being the wicked stepmother but I couldn’t read all of it.

LDS is probably Latter Day Saints = Mormon.

FDS might be short for FLDS, the fundamentalist polygamous utterly depraved sect of women hating, child abusing polygamists.

Talk about pride in the banality of their evil!

I didn’t even think about that. I don’t know that there’s a big Mormon population here but I suppose anything is possible.

BHYH – The sticker across the width of the rear hatch offers an explanation: “Be Happy You’re Home Sacramento”. I’m guessing that’s a real estate company or something. I could Google it, but I don’t feel like it.

I am not a wizard which makes sense since I have a MUGL␣MUM and my skin is of a normal hue because my dad is not MRBLUU.

If you want your fencing team to be (w*)1NRZ your must practice SBR24-7 and foil and epee of course. And you yourself need to be 4EIRCE and you just DO␣1T Some people might think it is a wimpy sport, but others think ITS␣SEXY

I was surprised by that last one. No numbers or anything to make it spell out the words, just straight out, it’s sexy. And the car while red, wasn’t anything remarkable like a Lamborghini or Ferrari, or even that sporty looking.

* The W was supplied by the Washington Nationals logo which is a red W.

This morning I saw:

  • THE LEEZ on a Porsche crossover. I assume it belongs to the Lee family, and the spelling with an S was already taken.
  • MRBIN11 on a Nissan Rogue. My brain translates that to “Mister binary 11”, and binary 11 would be decimal 3. So “Mister 3” but I don’t know what that would mean. I’m probably going down the completely wrong path.
  • HR ABHI on a Hyundai Elantra. I have no idea what that one means. The driver’s first and middle initials are H.R. perhaps? Or they work in human resources? And the second part is a shortened spelling of their name?

Funny how they come in runs. Haven’t seen but a couple for two weeks and then this haul in the last 24 hours.

  • BUSIAA on an out of state plate on a ~15yo Toyota. Had a bumper sticker saying “only the best people become barbers”. Hmm. Color me baffled.

  • TYM2JMP on a FL standard plate on a SUV. There was also a sticker for a local sport parachuting place.

  • SRF⎵JA on a 5-character surfer booster plate on a pickup truck. “SRF” is surf or surfer, and JA is probably part of their name. If there was a local surf spot called “J.A.” I’d go with that. But AFAIK there isn’t any such.

  • NWCTY on a 5-character Miami Heat NBA booster plate on an Audi. “Northwestern city” is pretty obvious. But why pay to put that on a plate? Thinking of the rap music group NWA, I suppose the plate could be NW something something. But I couldn’t come up with a good decode for CTY.

  • DBCRY on another 5-character Miami Heat NBA booster plate on an SUV. I really want that to mean “debauchery” but I bet it’s actually something much more mundane.

  • SIKE-RN on a FL standard plate on a well-worn family wagon. “Psychiatric nurse” I supppose.
