Custom Licence Plates — Seen in the Wild

BATMOM in the local supermarket’s parking lot.

Well, it was a black car, but no idea if the driver wore a cape and/or cowl.

I know someone with FRANGEL. Her name is Fran, she’s referring to herself as an angel. I think it’s clunky. There’s no way to merge those words without one of them being mispronounced.

Saw REDRUM 6 in the grocery store parking lot this morning. Also on a Tesla.

I am not sure what the car that crossed in front of me 8⎵HOT but I hope it was good. The BLKMOBIL certainly lived up to its billing by being painted black, but I have no way to know if NOJUIC3 really had no juice, or if LUCY7 was drive by an actual Lucy. COMTEC sounds like an agency, but is likely simply a communications technician.

FL issues no black plates w white writing. But lots of FL plates are custom painted that way. A few are on black cars w white trim, so the plate color is probably an aesthetic statement. Far more seem to be some sort of RW “I love a police state’” thing.

Saw a raggedy purple older Suburban w a raggedy 50-something white guy w a buzzjob haircut.

His black and white plate said HILDER. That might be his name. I’d sooner bet it’s a sly reference to the Nazi leader from the last century.

Uggh if so.

On a Miata MX5: M3OWT4

No stickers or other indicators that they were a cat person so perhaps had to really strain to get ‘Miata.’

Saw a couple year old Chevy Tahoe SUV. Had a Freemason’s license plate frame and the plate background was the Masons booster design which only holds 5 characters. The plate itself was 8FOR8.

No idea of the significance of that one. Even if we interpret it as 8-4-8. But I bet it’s some kind of Freemason’s code term.

8 For 8. A day’s work for a day’s pay.
Seems to be a union (specifically IBEW) thing.

ETA, I’m seeing " Own up to “8 for 8” and be on the job unless otherwise allowed or authorized to leave" mentioned in IBEW labor agreements.

Bit of a haul this afternoon:

  • A generic newish sedan with a Florida Gators booster plate & matching plate frame. The plate read OOAHU. Evidently they like warm weather and palm trees. Smart people.

  • A Suburban or similar with SAMZ3. Can’t tell if the Z is their last initial or a substitute for the S that was already taken. Same for the 3. Is the owner a 3rd? Is that their 3rd car? Or was 1 & 2 already taken?

  • A nearly new M-B E63 with LADYR. She seems to live well.

  • A raggedy elderly Hyundai compact sedan with TENNI. I’ve not heard of that as a woman’s name or nickname, but that’s the only idea that comes to my feeble mind.

Quoting myself from 6 months ago:

I saw that car again today. Other than the ones that live in my building, I think that’s almost the first example of me seeing the same car twice.

I really hope this guy drives for Uber or Lyft.

Might be a pilot.

On the way home this evening: A10SCAPT. My best guess is that he/she flew a Warthog, but there were no other markings on the car (a small Lexus SUV) and the plate was not a vet’s plate (the NY affiliation plates allow only 6 characters), so nothing to back that up.

This caught my attention but I couldn’t be sure if it was a reference to the X Files. Until I got closer and could see the other stickers on the car.

Scored 3 this evening. Only one of which I thought was interesting.

  • New large M-B SUV with the FL golfing booster plate. CNDY⎵LOO. Yep, she was cute and blond. And now 40-something. After the Grinch grew a heart, she grew up.

  • Generic SUV with JORDAN-5. Most Jordans are now 30ish, so it figures they’ve now got family wagons. I didn’t know FL offered hyphens on their plates.

  • JMURF. Somebody else with their name on their plate.

Saw CAUSE this morning. Non-descript dark car, couldn’t see the driver. No idea what it could mean.

A couple from out here on the left coast…

A big, white Toyota RAV4 with PRTY :black_heart: F6 On the plate there was no space between the heart and the F, making it clearly read OF. (California has a few special characters available, star, heart, hand, plus sign.)

And on a Lexus convertible 3GGGRLS. The car was parked in Anaheim. The next town over is Garden Grove.

Two mildly mysterious ones today: SIMPLE19 and VELLY YR. Thoughts?

When dealing with SUPA␣L8 tell them that the even starts 1 hour before it actually does!
