I have something that irks me no end. I have a former employee and friend that just posted photos of her two daughters one 14 and the other just 8 or 9. They are both decked out in heavy dark lipstick. When did it become OK for a 9 year old to wear makeup? She was always referring to them as almost 14 or almost 9 even if they just passed their birthday. This bothers me for some reason and it’s really none of business. GRRRRRR
Spent 8 hours in a Middle school gym helping check in and evaluate soccer players from 4 to 12 years old. Fun but wearying, even if I spent a lot of it sitting down. Kids did well and seemed to be having fun, which is what counts.
Home now and sammiches have been consumed. If I get up early enough tomorrow a Krispy Kreme run for hot glazed donuts may be in the plans.
Cell phone serial killer?
Our evening went well. SIL arrived timely, the pork roast was wonderful, feeding 3 and made 9 meals of leftovers. The rest of the meal & snacks were nice. Once the almost full moon cleared the nearby buildings it lit our patio dinner very nicely.
I did something different and unplanned with the sweet pots. They were cut into medium dice and steamed as always. Once steamed to soft I’d intended to mash them with a bit of half-and-half cream/milk for consistency then add curry powder to taste. If you haven’t tried that it’s a wonderfully tasty combo. All that and more nutritious than white ones. What’s not to like?
Anyhow I decided to do something different and mashed them with the half-and-half then added about 1-1/2 tsp of bottled roast minced garlic per potato. The two flavors didn’t blend even a little bit. It was sort of a dual-channel taste explosion: you got garlic on my sweet potatoes! No! You got sweet potatoes on my garlic! It was weird, but great. Try it. I’d done savory herbs on the pork loin and the two together were nummy.
We never did make it to the Christmas decs celebration. Wine & chocolate & espresso & yak-yak took care of that. Tomorrow night I’ll go down to the beach before moonrise & (clouds permitting) watch it climb out of the ocean. That’s a happy ritual around here. I always enjoy watching the tourists take flash pictures of the Moon. Idjits. And I’ll get to the see the decs all lit up after sunset. Should be pretty.
Since tomorrow is Sunday wife will be performing at church in the evening; she does that. Us heathens commune with the Moon and stars and ocean instead.
Unless I’m irking. My first shift of Dec starts Sun at 5am. Here’s hoping for skating instead of flying.
Crawling in soon. Nitey nite to all.
Fights! Goals! Wade’s 100th game call! Victory in overtime! Damn that was good hockey.
The party was fun as usual. I came home with a tin of butter cookies and some margarita mix as a white elephant gift. now I have a lapful of warm puppy.
Up, caffeinated ,and sheveled. Off to work.
I’m guessing this is some sort of college football reference?
I need to take a break from crocheting. My right thumb - more specifically, the muscle that runs from the base of the thumb to the wrist - is SORE!! I had a difficult time holding my toothbrush! So SIL’s afghan will have to wait a bit. But I did finish the shades-of-orange afghan for the AARP, so there’s that.
Cold and overcast this morning. Supposedly the clouds will break up and it’ll climb to near 60 later - we shall see. I have no outdoor plans. I’m going to attack the baby’s room and the linen closet, plus I need to iron for FCD. We’ll see how the day goes.
Happy Sunday!
Filled my gas tank (24.7 MPG on the trip back from Brother’s) and my belly (8 Krispy Kreme glazed donuts), so all is well this morning. No Sunday paper delivery, I need to check what is going on, I just paid my annual subscription recently and the check was cashed, so no reason not to be getting it.
More soccer this afternoon, older kids this time, so may not stick around quite as long (kids tend to get less charming as puberty and hormones take control, IMHO).
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 54 Amurrkin out and foggy with a predicted high of 74 and N.O.S. for the day. No big plans at all for the day. I don’t feel like deheathenatin’ as my mouth is still a little sore which makes it kinda hard to talk. I think it best to just stay at da cave. I could do some laundry I suppose. N.O.L. shall be burgers and fries. Not sure if I can chow down on a burger but I could eat the burger sans bun I suppose. Beef and cheese is always a good thing!
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. I suppose I should also purtify.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
The linen closet is now organized - there were 2 shelves of assorted soaps, lotions, meds, bandaids, stuff. I threw away a full grocery bag of expired stuff and random trash that had accumulated in there.
**FCD **did a t-shirt purge - 2 grocery bags headed to the thrift store. We also discussed what we’ll do with 3 closets - not today, but before June.
I’m taking a break before attacking the baby’s room. So much fun…
At first, I thought this was slipped in for someone’s buddy, but that doesn’t even seem to be the case. Helicopter hunting is & has been allowed for some time now. Problem is the noise of the helicopter scares the pigs so they run.
Balloons are silent except when the pilot hits the burners, then they are very loud. IMHO, silence then loud is scarier than a gradually but steadily increasing loud noise. When the pigs run off, unless they do a slow trot, in the direction of the wind, one will at most, get one shot off. That’s ignoring the fact that you’re doing relatively low level flying with distractions, as well as the potential downfalls mentioned here & it’s no wonder that no one has gotten the necessary permits yet. We did talk about making t-shirts, a riff on the Army Airborne “Death from Above” motif, where we’d substitute a balloon for the parachute. ![]()
Nuts, a couple of years ago they replaced my gas meter…& set it 100 units too high. I got my Oct bill (Sept usage). They have a 13-month usage graph on the bill so you can see how this month compared to the same month last year. According to them, last year I used 68 units & this year I used 166, as much gas as I used last Feb in the dead of winter. I called them up, they agreed, said don’t pay that bill that they’d send a revised one & have someone sent out to adjust the meter. Got & paid the new bill, then I got Nov bill; Oct was approx 100 units more than I used the previous year. :smack: :smack:. I called them up, they agreed, said don’t pay that bill that they’d send a revised one & have someone sent out to adjust the meter. Got & paid the new bill, then I got Dec bill, Dec was approx 100 units more than I used the previous year.. This time when I called them up, I had a calm but almost growling voice & made it known in no uncertain terms that if they didn’t fix this problem w/in 48 hrs by having someone come out & adjust the meter that I was not only filing a formal (which is different than an informal - blame bureaucracy) complaint with their regulators but I was also going after them for fraud because multiple times they had fixed the symptom (wrong bill) but not the underlying problem (wrong meter). With all of the documentation I had (three revised bills); they would get slammed.
IOW, keep after them.
Okay, that was my 5 minutes of goofing off for the day, now on to busy times.
Fed, clean, and all the rest. The 'Dope is caught up and I’m stumbling about for something useful or fun to do between now and sunset/moonrise.
Blurf. Turkey is cooking. Should be eating it around 230.
I just had a preregistration call from the horse pistol where I am getting my cat scan on Tuesday. Seems I have not met my deductible so I have to pay $747 out of pocket. Ouch. Sure was not expecting that. It’s a cat scan not an MRI. Going to have to google to find the difference.
Have a great Sunday everyone.
Ran to the grocery store - I really shouldn’t do that on Sunday. But I got what I needed and we’re good. Yay. **FCD **wants a Reuben sammich. Where does one get a Reuben?? Off to search local restaurants…
Arby’s has one.
Arby’s??!?
That’s probably the scariest thing I’ve read all day. And I did do the world headlines.
Spidey I was talking about the dynamite specifically, but the hog hunting makes sense. Wild hogs are a huge problem, and scary as heck. I ran into a few out hiking with my dogs. Fortunately we were able to disengage.
Butters An MRI uses a magnet to do the imaging. It takes 30 minutes or so, has a longer imaging chamber, and is really loud. The result is a series of visual “slices” slices of your body that are assembled into a 3-d image that the doctor can scan through. A way to see inside a particular area in more detail than a simple x-ray. A “cat”, or CT, scan is computer-aided tomography. It’s basically a whole bunch of really quick x-rays, which are run through a computer to form images of the inside of your body. Very similar in output to an MRI. Much quicker. (There are differences in the types of scans, so sometimes you will end up getting both.)
I have ingested coffee, walked the dog, and will now deal with breakfast. Happy Sunday everyone.
That’s where we ended up going. He said it was pretty good. I got the french dip - it was pretty mediocre. And I was reminded why I don’t like to go to Arby’s.
Time to attack the baby’s room. Oh, how I dread it, but the mess won’t clear itself. Onward!!!
Once Pepper is allowed to run amuck again, I’m going to start using her as a wake up system for 'Beamette. Her dog has been barking to go out for 20 minutes. She just sleeps through it. I have C.o.L. (and it’s her job anyway). I think a nice, wiggly 60 lb German Shepherd puppy on top of her would be just the ticket.
