Cyberpunk 2077 release discussion

Here is an overview of some of the 2.0 changes, which is free for the main game. It looks like they finished the main game now…three years after releasing it.

Ok cool. I’m going to re-install and give it another go this evening.

2.0 doesn’t release for a while yet - you may want to wait.

Does the update work on older systems like the Xbox One?

I am reading that it does not. It excludes PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia. The previous generation updates are done.

Well shit. The article made me think it was already out. Looks like the 21st.

This is the internet. The thing to do is start a new game NOW, then get mad on Reddit in a few days when the patch hits and totally changes the rules on you mid-run.

The YouTuber ACG has a 12 minute review of Phantom Liberty as well as some commentary on the 2.0 patch (doubtless there are others now the NDA has lifted…this is just the first I saw).

Overall, it seems the patch and the DLC really make the game noticeably better. Maybe try the patched version and see if you like it enough for the DLC which you could get later. I have downloaded Cyberpunk again and waiting for the patch tomorrow (Sep 21). See how it goes.

FWIW: The developers have said they are done with this game after these two updates roll out. There will be nothing more to come.

I have it downloaded as well, it occurred to me that might be premature as the patch might be the size of the game download itself. Shall see.

Good point. There is a part of me though that wants to see the update actually happen rather than just assume it happened. Silly, I know…I still want to see it happen. I’ve waited a long time for it.

For those interested Reddit has collected many reviews in one place and summarized them (with links to the full reviews). Most seem very positive:

Gamespot even gave it a 10/10.

Patch is 48.12 GB on GOG for me. Pretty big.

It blows my mind that Tears of the Kingdom was 15 GB on the Switch. I know the graphical comparison is one thing, but man, Nintendo compressed a massive game(the largest I’ve ever played) into a super small file size.

Game size is almost entirely textures, videos, and audio. TotK has a fairly minimal art style and not a whole lot of voice acting. I like the style, mind you, but more realistic looking games demand super high res, multilayered textures, and being fully voiced also demands more space. The size off the game world is almost irrelevant (though if you have several “biomes”, they’re likely to require different texture sets–this is true of both TotK and CP2077, though).

Definitely. Amazingly, everything Tears of the Kingdom had made it only 3GB bigger than Breath of the Wild. The actual numbers were 13GB for Breath of the Wild and 16GB for Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears was probably almost twice the size, if not more, of Breath of the Wild.

I played through and beat Cyberpunk, and felt very satisfied with the story and the conclusion of everything.

I had planned to do a second playthrough with a completely different character. My first character was a pistol-wielding Terminator, with Sandevistan and other “bullet-time” methods, and a ridiculous hand cannon. He was a stone cold murderer with a heart of gold. Almost zero hacking skills. I was going to do it again with a character relying almost completely on hacking stuff; cameras, turrets, even enemy cybernetics. I was under the impression that such a character almost feels like a “wizard” using cybermagic. But I just didn’t have the heart to start all over again.

Now… I’ll consider it. Especially if I can get a good deal on the DLC.

Is it recommended to start a new game post-update?

I believe they’re recommending it, yeah, but it’s not required.

CDPR recommends starting a new game from the beginning for the best experience (but you do not have to).

They changed so much I am not sure I’d be able to sort it all out with an existing character. I will start fresh just to learn the ropes again (been over a year since I played I think).
