D & D on the Straight Dope setup thread. (In Middle Earth FA63)

Got mine, and it was fine. Many thanks, What Exit?

Received, many thanks.

There will be a couple of questions coming back you way though.

Got mine, thanks. Sorry for the lack of posts over the weekend.

Mine is fine.

**CatInASuit **found some errors that have since been corrected. Verify level, HP, XP, AC and missing new items in particular. I tried to be thorough but might well have missed something key.

I’m not going to rush us out of Rivendell too fast. I want to let a few days lapse in case anyone wanted to join in on the game. I can add them later but it would be easier now.

Odd bit in a PM to Elendil’s Heir.

It is a little scary to realize Gilraen is the not so far descendant of all three great intermarriages and a large number of great figures of Middle-Earth.

Melian and Thingol are but 6 generations back.
So Lúthien and Beren are 5.
Finwë is 7 and Fingolfin but 6.
Turgon is of course 5 and Tuor & Idril 4.
Eärendil is only 3.
If that was not enough, Galadriel and Celeborn are also only 3.
I have started a Recruitment thread. It looks like at least half the players have found it already.

It’s a very exclusive family indeed.

Let’s see if we can get Thoroncir in on the act

I think I will kick off the next adventure tonight or tomorrow. I need to get some maps scanned in tonight hopefully so I can upload them as needed.

Looking forward to the new adventure.

However, I don’t mind delaying it a bit further, if it means getting some fresh faces on board at the start of it.

Likewise, although they could always meet us on the road after the party leaves Imladris.

That could even be the plan, if it’s easier. But whatever’s easiest for the DM, I’m in no rush.

We have some interest in new players and one returning (D_Odds). I can work the new players into the game easily over the next 10 days and I’m sure there will be other spots and additional adventurers and troops come in to support the war.

Oh, good- I look forward to Brin saving my life again

So let’s see, we have Elendil’s Heir and Shadowfacts playing, and Maeglin may be interested as well.

All we need is Sauron for a full set :stuck_out_tongue:

I imagine Glorfindel would feel a bit uneasy around **Maeglin **though, nevermind Sauron.

There is also athelas, **Eonwe **(who the Paladin worships), **Ethilrist **(Sindarin I believe for something like Silver or shining sword), **Frodo **of course so **Sauron **should beware, **Telperien **(The tenth ruler of Númenor was its second Ruling Queen) & **well he’s back **(an allusion to Samwise of course).
Hoopy Frood has about 4 PM’s waiting on him, I hope I did not overwhelm him. Once he answers his character will be quick to complete. The hard part is done.

** Collected notes on the Minaras & specifically Neeya. **

Elanwë’s mount Neeya is basically a Unicorn, but it does not look much like a horse. Upon closer view the fair creature is less horse like than deer like, but not quite either. It is closer to a large deer though.

You have probably seen some medieval tapestries and painting that depict a more delicate creature with Deer-like features (or Goat-like in many cases). This is a silvery-white deer like creature the size of a small horse. Don’t assume you know what the Minaras can do. By the way, Minaras combines elven elements of One, Horn and Deer. They are extremely rare but a few are known to live in Mirkwood (Now Eryn Lasgalen, Sindarin for the Wood of Greenleaves)

One thing I will tell you, these Unicorns or Minaras hate Giants Spiders and are proof vs. their poison and the Minaras are great at killing the Giant Spiders.

We have learned they do seem to prefer virginal women and Elven maids. Though not exclusively. Apparently the Dwarves and many of the Hobbits are not aware Lady Elanwë is riding a Unicorn like creature. Some believe it to be a large pretty white doe and others an Elven Horse like Cúran or Glorfindel’s horse. Of the party members Gwaelur seems a bit confused as does the recently added Paladin Hraedsig. He sees her mount is as opposite as evil as his own Holy Symbol, Glorfindel or Gilraen but Neeya appears more like Glorfindel’s horse to him than how others perceive her. When Hoopy Frood’s character glimpses Neeya he will see what Gwaelur does. You’ll find that nearly none of the Woodmen will perceive Neeya correctly but the Beornings of course will.

Mulligan of course should find Neeya overwhelmingly fascinating. Deor probably should also as the closest stand in to Schmendrick the Magician.

I was a little pre-occupied last time to be truly fascinated by it.

Maybe next time.

Classic unicorn images, some more equine than others:

That was just a note, not a criticism.

In fact the note was as much for me as any of the players. I wanted a single source to what was known about the Minaras so far so I’ll be able to link to it later and stay consistent.

I’ll probably post the first night or two tonight. My access will be more limited than usually next week so I am glad I got one character introduced at least. The Dwarf will be finished once a bunch of options are decided on by Hoopy Frood. One way or another, he will either be Bitur or be yet another Dwarven *Brick *with you.

So noted.

Don’t worry, we covered it last time as well through PM.

Although, Mulligan riding a Minaras could be fun. Neither of us like Giant Spiders. :stuck_out_tongue:
