I joined Fat Club yestiday. It’s a program we’re having at irk over our lunch hour.
Go Bobbio! (We’ve got one starting next week at work. 'Tis the season, I think.)
Forgot to add Valentine’s greetings and anecdotes:
-
For the cynical, an old xkcd.
-
John Fugelsang’s parents love story. (Really hate the headline, but liked the story: ten years of letters!)
-
Plus another nice set of love stories, in a book, from Storycorps.
-
And, last, but not least: letters between Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett (eventually Browning) have been digitized. Here’s the story. And here’s a link to the Wellesley College site (the project is a collaboration between Wellesley and Baylor University).
How cool is all of that?

So, gotti you who gives and takes away access have no access to give and take away access. Once you have access again to give and take away access, can you take away access to who or what took away your access to give and take away access? That was fun to type!
I could take their access, but once someone looked at the logs to see who killed their IDs, I’d have some serious explaining to do in my exit interview. In reality, I’m being clobbered by automated processes that have no sense of humor and apparently no work-arounds.
**FCD **and I had a really nice day. We got to sleep in a bit, then headed to Denny’s for breakfast (not a huge thrill, but still edible) before driving to Baltimore.
Edible? That’s debatable.
It *was *edible - it must have been, since I managed to keep it down and survive the day. And how hard is it to do eggs, sausage, and pancakes?
Good morning. My sweetie is on his way to work, and I will be driving to Dahlgren some time today to dump some cash in the credit union and wander around their shiny, new WalMart. Then this afternoon (be still my heart) I get to take the trash and recycling to the convenience center! Woohoo!!! How much excitement can one person bear?
It hit 57 here yesterday and we might see 55 today. In fact, in the long range forecast, the only day in the next 10 that’ll top out below 50 will be Sunday in the rain. I can deal with such a February any time.
Meanwhile, I need to shower and dress to be seen in public - that’ll be two days in a row! Can you imagine??
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 55 degrees Amurrkin out with a predicted high of around 70. Early Spring returns to south Jawja today.
Speakin’ of pancakes, next Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday AKA Mardi Gras. We’re havin’ a partay at the church house. I think I may get roped into pancake cookin’. The idea is to have pancakes with all kinds of toppin’s for ‘em plus sausage that folks can all you can eat for a donation. The proceeds go to our Deacon’s discretionary fund which he uses for his ministry. There’s been discussion of doin’ like bacon cheeseburgers but I don’t know. Anywho it’s always fun so there’s that. Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday so we have to act all pious and repentant and such for forty days so I guess a big blowout the day before is appropriate.
MOOOOOOM I’d take ya up on the offer of the whip but I gotta feelin’ I’ll be in herdin’ cats mode so I don’t know if’n it’d help.
Shortdrum good on the droppin’ a class. It did sound like you had a little too much goin’ on there. Once you adjust to UConn you’ll be doin’ all sorts of stuff and deal with a heavier class load. IMO it’s best to start off sorta slow and build up the momentum.
Herbs that’s ummmm interestin’ re your dad. I hope all is for the best.
Now I need more caffiene and brekkie for rumbly tummy. Then irk purtification must commence. Today is another webcast on a new way of reportin’ travel. Again I have the advantage here cause I never knew the old way. Sometimes bein’ the new kid is a good thing.
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
Just woke up after another strange but enjoyable dream. I seem to have a lot of vivid dreams. Fortunately I don’t get worked up by them, I just enjoy the free picture show.
In this case I dreamed of setting up a small above ground pool at the house I grew up in, where somehow it morphed into a training facility for the Washington Redskins and a couple big, funny unnamed players were taking an afternoon soak after practice. Then at some point a few of them tried to grab a skinny trainer type guy to throw him in the pool, but I managed to break him free and he ran around the corner of my neighbor’s house. Then as I turned the corner I saw the entire team, coaches and support staff were in the street, and then they all began to dance to The Silversun Pickups “Panic Switch”. Then I woke up.
The thing is the Redskins aren’t even my team. Sure I’ve covered them a few times but I am not sure why they were there. Oh well, no need to over analyze.
Meanwhile I’ve got “Panic Switch” stuck in my mind.
Good morning!
I had one Sunday night that I haven’t report yet. It comes with a touch of subversion…
I dreamed that I smuggled my favorite Boxer (Sadie the VunderDog, for you oldtimers) to work, where she quietly slept under my desk, warming my feet for the day. Nothing bad happened. I also told myself during the dream that I could never get away with this with either of the two idiots we have now.
I went to Fat Club last night and found I’d lost all but half a pound of the weight I’d gained the week before. Result!
Of course, going home and indulging in champagne and cocktails won’t have helped, nor will today’s luxury of caramel shortbread…but tomorrow is another day and I’ll be back on the diet plan.
After all, I need to be looking all svelte and sleek ready for Van Halen day, don’t I?
Did you see VBob there?
Back from erranding! I stopped at the EZPass office and got 2 sets of window sticky thingies so we can mount the transponder in the new car and in the truck. Then I filled my car at a cheaper VA gas station, deposited FCD’s Super Bowl Pool winnings in the credit union, grabbed a quick breakfast at BK, then hit WalMart for a few necessaries and a few extraneous items. I’m going to chill a little while, then do trash and recycling.
Just think, some day when your career winds down and you can retire, this is what you have to look froward to!
The way I feel about mine right now I wish I could do this effective immediatly.
Anways - Happy hump Day!
Supper tonight is blackened tilapia, roasted tomatillo sauce and brocolli or cauliflower or maybes both!
vbob & boofae I am back on the fat club wagon as of today. I have had a rough couple of weeks happiness level wise and I have eaten horribly and managed to put on 7lbs when I had a goal to lose 20 by my birthday. So now it is to lose 27 lbs.
Glad the lady babies get to come home today. Whoohoo!
Ok, I’ve put some more spoon rings up for sale on Etsy, done a bit of homework, and now it’s time for [del]a nap[/del] school!
Howdy y’all! Home from irk. Today was another video conference followed by some whinin’ and then more whinin’ when I sent out email about some stuff we have to start doin’ as of March 1st. Whinin’ does not get anybody anywhere. Da bear loathes whinin’. Except when I whine, then it’s perfectly justified.
We’re gonna go grab some not too shabby Chinese. Then Ima go do Evenin’ Prayer at the church house.
Yay for babies comin’ home today LiLi!
BooFae it is important to look svelte just in case you attract the eye of one of the band members who will be instantly smitten with you.
Woohoo! Maryland tax refund is in da bank!! Waitin’ on the feds now.
My inlaws got their computer back today and FIL called me to help him set up their network connection. Their machine is running XP and we’re on Win7, so I had to look up the procedures for them to get connected. It worked, and I got my FIL to connect on Team Viewer and I was able to show them a few things. It was so much easier than him reading windows to me.
**FCD **is on his way home - poor baby has had a stressful day. We need a chill evening…
Home. Babies asleep upstairs, Mr. Lissar is off to collect the boys from my mum and dad’s.
Tired and happy. Pics up here.
Aw, bebehs.
Have you hidden all the palm fronds?
may they bring you, Gnat, Tomkitten, and Mr Li years of joy.
Awww, I missed the babies!!! Congratulations LiLi - your girls are overwhelmingly adorable.
Swampy - I definitely agree with you. I wasn’t expecting the move from community college to university to be so hard but it’s a bitch.
I officially failed my chem test. I got a 50. My TA pulled me aside after lab and told me he was shocked to see that I failed because I obviously know what’s going on (based on my homework and performance in lab). I told him that I have problems with word problems. I have always had problems with word problems. He’s glad that I know what the problem is so I can address it and he told me about the tutoring center in the library. I’ll be spending at least an hour each Tuesday and Thursday there because I like chemistry, dammit, and I’m going to fail if I don’t deal with this word problem problem.
I feel so much better - mentally. I’m relaxed and happy and looking forward to going to school tomorrow.
Unfortunately my “tension” headache might not be. I thought it was because my tension headaches always center on my right eye but after a day of no pain, it’s back with a vengeance. I now suspect that I have a muscle or nerve pain in my neck that isn’t all that bad but is radiating up to my face (I found a small spot of minor pain and when I pressed it I felt like I had been stabbed in the face). So, I took a muscle relaxer. If it works I’ll have a much better idea how to make this damn pain go away once and for all.
BEEYOOTEEFUL bebehs there, LiLi! Hope they’re kind to you. And don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get some sleep in about 10 years or so…
congo, sounds like you’re doing the right thing with your class schedule. Don’t wanna kill yourself so early on. Sounds like you’ve got a good TA there which is great. My Chem TA was Chinese, and like many Americans, in order to make himself understood, he’d YELL!! I passed in spite of him and in spite of my deep hatred of Chemistry…
I had some leftover chickie noodle soup for supper. It was good. Now I’m tired. I see an early night tonight. Yawn ----> :o
Welcome home, babies! :: waves enthusiastically ::
Now, be good babies and let your mommy have some nice quiet internet time so that she can tell us all about you.
Sounds like a very good TA, shortdrum. Glad there are resources to help you out.
Home. Have cleaned out the fridge, taken out the trash and gone for a walk. Now it’s veg time, I think.
Hugs.
