If she does have experience, then not mentioning it is pretty disingenuous, and she also should have done better. I agree that it was over scored.
They’ve had professional dancers on before. Personally if I ran the show I would only accept amateurs, but then maybe it would cause lower ratings. I don’t know.
Michael has been traveling back and forth from the race track to LA. We followed him on Friday at the track and filmed a lot of great content. Find out what his co-workers think and his goals for the season.http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_JvW5Zo63M&feature=youtu.be
So far it’s been a typical week 2 slump. The dances just aren’t nearly as good as week 1. Lea and Artem’s jive has been the week 2 highlight so far. Betsy and Tony did really good compared to their week 1 dance. There’s still a few more dances to go.
I Always love Movie night on dwts. There were so many great dances tonight. Tommy Chong and Betsey Johnson continue to amaze me with their energy and charm. Age really is just a number for those two. Same thing with Lea Thompson who dances like she’s 30.
There wasn’t a bad dance tonight at all. Sure, some were better than others, but there were no stinkers tonight. Val deserves so much credit for reinventing new choreography for that famous West Side Story dance. That was one heck of a challenge. Derek was fortunate that he was allowed to recreate the famous Singing in the Rain dance.
I assumed it was because the orchestra that played for 16 seasons got canned. This smaller and cheaper band took their place. ABC’s idea of saving a few bucks was to fire music director, Harold Wheeler.
It’s not the band’s fault. They are just doing what they were hired to do.
aceplace57: I kinda thought that at first, too, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense. The new orchestra has been playing for more than a season, and all of a sudden everyone in the audience decides to show their displeasure now? I guess it’s possible, but kind of strange.
I thought Val was amazing in re-creating WSS and making me want to go to HIS version of the show on Broadway. Janel was great and well deserved score. George Chakiris, the ORIGINAL Oscar winning Bernardo was in the audience! I was saddened nobody asked him what he thought of the routine! 80 years old, the guy looks great!
It was confusing, until the widow of Gene Kelly showed up in Derek and personality deprived Bethany’s practice. So of course Derek would get his 10’s why was Bethany even there? It kinda pissed me off that Gene Kelly’s widow looked so young, well she is, relatively speaking. She married him when she was 26 and he was 72. They were only married for 6 years before he died. Gene would have been 102 this year. Mrs. Kelly is 56. I guess my point is Mrs. Kelly wasn’t even born when Singing in the Rain was first released, and yet we had the Oscar winning actor from West Side Story in the audience. I don’t think the favoritism towards Derek was ever so blatant.
I used to vote for him, I just can’t anymore. There are too many good dancers on the show for the producers to constantly lick this guy’s ass.
If they don’t have time for all 4 judges to weigh in then maybe they should go back to just 3 judges…
I didn’t think Derek recreated “Singin’ in the Rain” so much as did homage to it. A couple of moments, the umbrella flip. But it was a nice dance and they did it really well. Loved Val’s WSS dance as well.
I did not think Betsey deserved a 6. But on the other hand, I didn’t think she deserved a 9. This balances out to 7.5 which seems about right. I would really like to know what she does to stay so flexible. She does have a nice line, but she doesn’t have the musicality she needs to get to the finals IMO.
Ah, thanks. That makes sense. He was probably hamming it up off camera to get the audience going. Plus, Tom’s comment, “oooh, it’s getting ugly in here” was far too flippant for them to be booing the band.
I agree with Hilarity N. Suze: They’ve cut off the last judge quite a few times already this season. I don’t remember that happening much when they only had three judges.
I figured the whole point of bringing on Julianne as a fourth judge was because Len was going to be missing a lot of shows like last year. But nope, they’re still doing the guest judge thing. My new guess is she’s being eased in as Len’s replacement and this will probably be his last season
My feelings toward Derek have come full circle. In the beginning, he was my favorite. Then it seemed like he was getting a little too lucky with the partners, and the whole “Derek is nice guy, Maks is the bad guy” thing seemed a little too staged. I began to think he wasn’t as great as I first thought. But now, with all the Derek hate pilling up on him, I feel he’s really being treated unfairly by the fans. He really is amazingly talented, and comes up with things that no one else does. Recently, I’ve realized it’s not all lucky partners, it’s his fabulous choreography that gets the scores. And I don’t think that’s unfair at all. So I vote for the couple that entertains me most. Sometimes that’s the celebrity, sometimes the pro, and sometimes the amazing dance itself.
In my opinion, Val can also be pretty creative with the choreography. He comes up with twists to make a dance entertaining without breaking the rules of the dance. Mark tries to be creative and considers himself to be a rebel, but he seems to fail as often as he succeeds.
Any idea what the legal problem was with West Side Story? My guess is that they didn’t want to rip off the Jerome Robbins choreography…is choreography copyrighted? (And if so, why not just pay for the rights?)
