dantheman's Personal Poster Hall O' Fame

Yep, I know we do a lot of these things. There are threads in which one person wants to let another know how well they think of them. There are threads in which one person wishes to thank an anonymous person. And there are the flirt and pick-me-up threads.

So, knowing all of that, I’m gonna start one of my own anyway! Many of you will probably see this as a waste of server space, but what the hey. Can’t please everyone.

I just wanted to take the time to acknowledge the following people. Every time I see a post with your name in it, I get all excited, thinking it’s gonna be a cool post. I’m rarely disappointed.

Some are ladies whose names elicit a “Woooooo hooooo!” thought from me each time, whose names give me that special feeling; you know, the kind you got when you climbed the rope in gym class. And others are people whose names make me think, “Hey, that person’s COOL! I better pay attention. I might learn something useful, or maybe I’ll learn something not very useful but still funny as all get-out.”

So there’s my own personal Hall O’ Fame, located conveniently in my apartment. Admission is one dollar, although to see the particularly naughty stuff you need to pay $50 and donate a blood sample. There’s no beer in the fridge, but there could be, if you know what I mean <wink, wink>. The moose at the front door will collect your stubs, and you can then come in and enjoy the exhibition… err, the exhibits.

[There. I feel better. I always feel better after I tell someone I like their style.]

Anyone else got a Hall O’ Fame?

Thanks, dantheman. I should tell you that I’ve had lingering guilt over posting to your dog thread lo these many months ago–feeling like my ratio of sympathy to cold practical (and misguided) advice was terribly low, and made me unforgiveable. It wasn’t a MEAN post, I just didn’t have much to say by way of “That’s awful!” You’ve recently made me feel a lot better about it by seeming to, well, appreciate me. Did you know other Dopers can feel bad about a post for so many weeks after others have forgotten it? That WAS you, wasn’t it? The post about the dogs attacking yours?

But on this topic in general, I’m more tempted to post my Hall of Shame – people who the mere mention of make my eyes roll and my jaw clench. Whose threads I try to not even open. But that wouldn’t be nice. Heh.

does a happy dance

I’m in dantheman’s Hall of Fame, I’m in dantheman’s Hall of Fame…

pounces on dantheman and hugs him

thanks babe! Feeling loved is a very good thing for me right now.

continues happy dance

Thanks, Dan!

Oh, and Cranky? There’s already a Hall of Shame, and the Mods are the only ones who are privy to all the inductees.

Well, fret not, Cranky. If you posted something that could possibly have been construed as not-very-helpful, I didn’t take it that way at all. I’ve been online for an exceedingly long time, and I feel very certain that there is nothing anyone could post on a message board that would hurt me or bother me. That’s not a slight to those who say such nice things about me; it’s more of a “sticks and stones” mentality as it applies to online thoughts. For one thing, people can type things they don’t completely mean; they’re typing from their hearts, not their minds. This is simply the human condition, and I’d never have it any other way. For another thing, even if the person meant their statement to offend me, how could I possibly take it as such? That person isn’t in my real life, and most likely will never be. Am I to accept someone’s badmouthing as gospel merely because it’s directed at me? Hogwash, say I. So although it’s too late to curtail this post, to sum up let me say that I take most of what I read with a grain of salt, even the factual stuff. Advice online is usually as valuable as advice offline; unless it’s from a certified professional, you take such advice just at face value, as something to keep in mind, not something on which to act on solely. Fear not, I noticed nothing errant from you.

Oh, and yes it was my thread. And last month, we buried his ashes, finally.

Naw, it wouldn’t be. There are certainly people I don’t particularly care for, but it is not their job to please me. They probably do not care about my opinion of them, and that’s perfectly all right. Besides, if we all posted the people we don’t care for, then we’d have a lot of hurt people. It can only spawn meanness, so I just keep it in my own tiny head.

And of course, K, you’re like a little sister to me. Thanks for the hugs.

Jeff, you’re in there largely because of your help with AxMan. What a wonderful idea! Has saved me a lot of aggravation. And that kind of sums up SDMB for me. It’s a way to cut down on aggravation and frustration. Thanks again.

You like me! You really like me!
[sub]Well, somebody had to say it![/sub]

My absolute favorite poster of all time was Mr. Cynical. He was like a god to me, and I strive to be more and more like him every day.

:stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Aww… shucks. :open_mouth:

Thanks, dan

::sigh::

I remember the days when I used to be cool, back in the old days when I was still a smoker. So everything I learned in high school must be true, you really do look cooler with a cigarette! Smoking makes you cool! I thought so!

I’m going out to buy a pack of Marlies.

(((((Dan)))))

Thanks, man.

FWIW, you’re on my Personal People Hall of Fame. One of the nicest guys I know, you are. I mean that sincerely.

[sub]Thanks, Euty kiss[/sub]

Nah, Crunchy. Don’t do that. Just lounge around topless.

Well, I’ll think you’re cool.

Or something.

Aw, thanks. Aw, pshaw, even. In actuality, I never get to see anyone on AIM, anymore. A few of the people I listed up there are on my buddy list, but <sigh> I never see 'em. Are they hiding, or just going through RL crap? I vote for the latter. But that really sucks, cause it means I can’t help them. :frowning:

blush Oh my!

Thank you so much, dantheman. That’s a pretty impressive list; I feel honored to be in such great company.

:):):):)

Nadu! Nadu! Komawoyo, Dan!

(that’s “Me, too! Me, too! Thanks, Dan!” in Korean) [sup]Ginger already used the “You like me, you really like me!” line, so I went with educational…[/sup]

Gotta agree with you on this one, pal. As a long-time lurker and a newbie poster, my fancy has been tickled on more than one occasion by these fine folks

Keep up the good work, fellow Dopesters!

Ok. Ruby’s a keeper.

Ah, good riddance. I wonder whatever happened to that guy? I heard he became a born-again and got some local cable access show to preach the word. The dumb ass.
[points to self]Evil! Evil![/points to self]

Yup, we LIKE Ruby! Welcome, BTW!!!
