Calling all DC-area Dopers! OpalCat and I are headed out for a night of dancing and fun this Saturday (April 24). We’re going to DC Midnight, which is held every Saturday night at The Meeting Place (1707 L Street, NW). Looks like they have some cool DJs and just a cool atmosphere in general (gothic/industrial/dark music according to their site). They’re open from 9 pm to 3 am, with a $5 cover, and the first 12 people are admitted free! And it’s two for one drinks before 10 pm. So if we show up early, we may be able to get in free and get cheap drinks.
Yeah I think I’ll be wearing my new shoes too. I don’t think my Birkenstocks will fit in too well at DC Midnight
Hey Justin, if you wanna borrow a pair of my shoes, you are more than welcome. But it really doesn’t matter, we like you no matter what you have on your feet!
As a total hijack, are there clubs in the Alexandria area that play modern dance music (NOT rap, there are too many of those ). I’m going to be in the area in a couple of months for a different group of online-festers, so in case anyone there wants to do what you’re doing, I’ll be in the know.
Or alternatively, are there places anywhere in DC area that play slightly more major-key dance, but still edgy? (Think 1998-99-era sample techno?) (but less repetitive than Rockefeller Skank and crap like that.)
My fiancée will be out of town, so I’ll be showing up alone (but still very much taken, thank you). I’ll wear combat boots and my clubbing clothes and see you funky kids there. Anyone who needs a designated driver for towns near either end of the Red Line can count on me. I also have a guest bed that out-of-towners are welcome to, assuming they’re not freaked out by accepting room and board from a stranger.
Oh, and because I’ll be home alone, single females need not apply to sleep over – even if you’re the very picture of virtue, I’d like to avoid even the appearance of anything improper.
(p.s. this does not mean I am a stick in the mud, only that I am very sincere in my exclusive affection for my fiancée.)
This brings up the question of where to meet. Should we just hope to find each other inside? Or should we find a place closeby to meet and go in together?
Sorry to miss out on yet more groovy fun, but my in-laws are coming to town this weekend to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. Do a shimmy or two for me—and definitely let me know if you’ll be returning to the place, as I really liked the playlists on the web site!
