I’ll be attending the rally with some friends - depending what the plans are, I can try and join up with the rest of you guys. Which rally, though? Does it matter? I’m planning on being at John Stewart’s (we’re about fighting ignorance, after all), but I suspect they’ll pretty much be at exactly the same place.
As for post-plans, now that someone’s mentioned the Zoo, I really want to go there!
How about RFD in Chinatown. Right next to the Metro (or a brisk trek to the Mall, about 3/4 mile). Great beer selection, decent food, moderately priced.
I’m normally not available (or even conscious) Saturday afternoons. That evening I may be running a MeetUp at Piratz Tavern in Silver Spring. I’m available to meet for an after-Fest the next day, especially if I get to meet the famous Boyo Jim.
That makes 2 people who think I’m famous, and one of them is me.
What is a MeetUp?
As for Sunday, I already have dinner plans (not that that should discourage anyone else from getting together) but I’m kinda likin the idea of a Sunday brunch.
Th menu looks real good to me. Plenty o’ meat, and some veggie choices for our kinder and gentler Dopers. It’s slightly pricey by Madison standards, but I’m sure it’s not by DC standards.
Jeez, I hadn’t even thought about what to do if they meet at, like, opposite ends of the mall. I we end up having to choose, then I choose Stewart.
Someone mention in the other rally thread that they wished the Colbert rally wasn’t happening at all because it confuses the issue, and I pretty much agree with this. But I’m sure these rallies weren’t created to be political events, rather they were created to be entertainment and comical events. I think that people are taking them to be more than they were intended, and I include myself in that group.
To add on: these may not be intended to be political rallies, but neither was Glenn Beck’s. It’s fairly obvious Stewart wants to counter Beck and make it clear not everyone is on board with the Crazy, which is a concept I’m totally on board with. Colbert’s just along to mock the Crazy.
