Oh, and I’m pretty sure it’s not walking distance from the Metro, although I could be wrong. It’s close enough that I could pick someone up if necessary…
It doesn’t appear to be walking distance - it’s about 4 miles from the Branch Avenue Station.
Anytime. Next dopefest, you’ll be first in line.
OK, I’ll be leaving the house in about 10 minutes. I’ll probably be early, but that’s just the way I am.
Mini-Fest here I come!
And I’ll be leaving work in about 10-15 minutes as well. Hopefully I won’t get lost or be really late!
I’ll be there.
I got home about ten minutes ago. Criminey.
I hope it was as much fun as last night. You guys are even cooler in person than you are online!
I especially enjoyed having RTFirefly laugh at my statistician joke and hearing Tris’s stories (even if he didn’t recognize my hat!). It was great meeting all of you and seeing Anita and the Weird-Norths again.
I can’t wait to see you all the next time.
I’m rapidly becoming a regular! No getting rid of me now!
Well, I thought scoutFest II - Another Night, Another State - was fun. av8rmike arrived shortly after I did, and we chatted in the waiting area for a while. We told the nice hostess that we were waiting for others, but she suggested we be seated, since it might get crowded. As we sat, munching some peanuts over our beverages, Wendell Wagner showed up, and after a few phone calls, none of which included the key phrase “What are you driving?”, dantheman arrived with our lovely guest of honor.
I think our server was relieved - I’m sure she thought we were being stood up!
There was food, there was conversation, there were jokes - typical Fest stuff. There was also discussion of where to do things next time - sorry I picked a place sorta in the boonies… We weren’t that remote, tho - Andrews AFB was within spitting distance, if you were disgusting enough to spit!!
I had to be the party-pooper, since I’d been up before 5AM and it was creeping dangerously close to 10. Still, conversation continued into the parking lot where scout invited us all over to her place!! Well, maybe not exactly. More like if we were able to track her down, she’d let us sleep on her floor, but she was gracious about it!
I’d give the evening 2 thumbs up - one for re-meetings and one for new meetings! And may I add that dantheman truly is the man for fetching scout so we could have this Fest sequel! And Wendell and av8rmike were good sports for driving out to the semi-boonies on short notice.
But my stupid dog is on The List for waking me up so early after I was out so late. yawn
Well, I got to see a lot of Washington, Arlington, Crystal City, and parts unknown, so that was a bonus.
Ahhh, so that’s how it was done. Danthemagician, you undoubtedly win the Dopefest Champeenship for going two nights in a row and making the second one possible by fetching the fetching Scout! Thank you for picking up the ball I dropped.
Oh, no, no magic work here. You’re confusing me with scout’s juggler, or clown, or carnival barker, or whoever he was.
It would have been ever so magical had I been able to ferry her to the restaurant on time. But hey, we saw a lot of the city, the country, the bridges, the overpasses, the Pentagon…
BTW FCM, I’m glad you played the role of party pooper, because I’d been up since 5:30. But hey, I wasn’t gonna leave until scout was darned good and ready. How often does she come out here, I asked myself.
Pretty damn rarely, given that I had to leave my carnival barker at home this trip.
…
Sorry.
I’m finally back home and back online. I want to thank EVERYONE for coming out to visit on Thursday and Friday nights. Since I wasn’t the one driving, I had no idea it was so treacherous on the way home on Thursday. My special thanks go to Anita and Dan, since they were so gracious to shuttle me around - it’s great that there always seems to be someone willing to step up and go the extra mile (or several).
I had a whole lot of fun meeting everyone, especially the folks I’ve been interacting with for so long - even though I knew what many of you looked like ahead of time, it was still nice to “put a face with the name” if you know what I mean. And I think Ginger is now my bestest friend for telling me I looked thinner in person than I do in pictures.
Ultrafilter and Susan_Foster probably had more snow out their way but that snowstorm was nothing compared to what we’re supposed to get tonight. This time tomorrow we might have 10 inches on the ground.
Scout, I’m glad you had a good time. It was great to meet you and I agree with Ginger - You Look Mahvelous!
