Dead Goats and Death-Defying Beaches - a Cretan MMP

Hello!! ::tap, tap:: Is this mike working??

Oh, noes! I’z keeled the MMP!!

Overheard acoss a cube wall in the other buiding here at work:

:: mumbled cookie fortune:: In Bed!

Wish I’da heard the fortune though…

Puggy, we don’t MMP well with you in flood waters.

Howdy Y’all! Four down and one to go! WOOHOO!!! I might or might not have to work Monday. Either way it’s ok. That’s just how I am.

Wanna hear about my work day? Ok! I’ll tell ya!

Arrive at work.

Spend one hour doing online training due to semi-nasty email remindin’ me I’m behind

Do actual work one hour

Take fifteen minute break

System goes down 45 minutes

Go to one hour meeting just as system comin’ back up

Go to half hour meeting right after

Lunch Time! Take extra fifteen minutes cause lunch is provided and I can

Do actual work for an hour and fifteen minutes

Take fifteen minute break

Do actual work for about an hour

Go wait for training class to start for ten minutes

Go into training class only to find I did this training two weeks ago

Sign into system to state training completed per instructor

Cool heels in class fifteen minutes cause that’s all the time I have left 'til go home time

Yeah, I am just exhausted! It was grueling! Grueling, I say!

Technically, it’s a gun module - that is, the housing where the gunner sits, including all the computers and stuff that aim and junk. Not sure how big the gun itself is, but the housing is big enough that falling off would be very bad.

Home. Tired. Hungry. Quiche for supper.

We just got back from picking up FCD’s car - it came in a bit under $700, so that’s good.

Well, must cook. rah.

Sheesh…

Now that our hot tub has been running for a couple of weeks, I thought it would be a good idea to take a water sample to the pool shop for testing to see if I’m doing things right and if I need to add anything.

Turns out I needed a smidge of alkaline buffer, which is apparently expected for the water in this area, and based on the test-strip results I was getting, I knew that I needed some. Otherwise, things were fine. Hooray for that at least. Although, if it’s normal for this area, I don’t know why they didn’t just sell me the stuff when I bought the “Spa Start-Up” kit. Probably just a ploy to get me back into the store to buy more stuff.

The sheesh part was for the store staff. I honestly think the jar of “buffer-up” had more intelligence than the staff.

Today was my last day of Archivin’ Work. I’m kind of sad about that. So me and this bottle of scuppernong wine are hangin’ out.

And now the wine is gone. But I’m warm and it was good.

This has been today’s slightly drunken post.

I am home. I have to go back tomorrow for more fun and games. I shouldn’t complain because TH is still out of work and we need the money. But dayum, this work gets tiresome quickly. Oh, not the pts, but the BS from administration and (frankly) sometimes coworkers. Gah.
Am now deeply obsessed with Star Trek–a real nostalgia trip for me. Am watching the TV series on DVD. Mindless, clean fun–right up my alley.

Hope all is well with everyone–really can’t seem to pay attention and read (too tired). Sorry…

I can imagine it was kind of sad to have your last day of archiving, Spaz. It always sounded like you had fun with that.

Excellent caffeine procurement story, Arachne.

Planted more stuff and watered a bunch. Need to get up early to plant a bit more and water more and go to work and then I’ll just need to finish up planting and watering and it’ll be vacation!!! Yay!!!

Back tomorrow…

Hugs.

GT

Hey Spaz, want me to send you some archivin’ work to do? Uh oh … wait a minute, that might be a bad idea. ::hugs:: Sorry. :frowning:

Thank Og tomorrow is FIRDAY! And the Memorial Day holiday on Monday makes it a three day weekend!! Can you tell I’m really looking forward to it?

Good thoughts sent out to FCD and to anyone else who needs/wants them. And GT, I’d so want to ask you to bring me back some Chanel #5 from Paris. LOL Actually #19 is my favorite. Seriously, though, hope you have a great time!

This is my slightly inebriated post as well…

I took Mr Rebo to the bar, then returned home to prepare his requested birthday meal, spaghetti and meatballs. I then join him, where he consumed a bit too many bought-for-his-birthday-by-other-patrons-Rumpleminz… he skipped dinner and is currently “napping.” I just put away an awesome dinner and washed the dishes, after eating my fair share. It was yummy! The salad had home-grown tomatoes from our neighbor across the street.

I’m bummed that we have to wait for birthday boy to partake (re: wake up) to enjoy German Chocolate birthday cake…

Oh well, once a year ain’t so bad to get shit-faced. (He was mumbling to himself, “I’ll never drink Schnapps again. I swear.”)

YAY!!! Today has been a great day! This morning I went to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription immunosurpressant, Cellcept, and discovered that it now has a generic version! Since Cellcept costs about $10,000/year, this is VERY good news! When combined with the recently announced continuation of the state college tuition freeze, this is likely to save my family a LOT of money, since I’ll be off of Dad’s insurance soon and at that point we’d have to foot the full bill for my pills ourselves!

(I say “ourselves” because he would have to pay for them til I graduate and then I’d have to pay for them til I found a job with health insurance that would cover them.)

Additional good news: I’ve just learned that there’s going to be a big furry convention (FA United, organized by FurAffinity, the biggest furry community site on the internet) close to where a cute girl who happens to be a really good friend of mine lives. Granted, by “close enough” I mean “the same state” but hey, that state is New Jersey so the two can’t be that far apart. I sense a roadtrip in my future, and I may invite her to the con with me - she’s wierd enough to tolerate or even enjoy it. This girl and I have known each other for like a year and a half, but we’ve never met in real life - we were introduced through our World of Warcraft guild (social networking, but with epic loot) and have been AIMing and texting each other ever since. She’ll be coming down from NJ to visit me this summer to spend a weekend or so with my family, which is awesome, and this convention gives me even more reason to reciprocate with a visit by yours truly to her place. I very seldom get this excited unless there is alcohol involved…

Even additional-er good news: I made 80 bucks today by playing chauffeur for my friend, driving him two hours and change each way so he could visit his girlfriend in Pennsylvania. As a broke, unemployed college student, this is a LOT of money. Like, two or three months worth of Ramen!

Individual responses to be delivered when it’s not 2am. Appropriate and inappropriate emotions and actions for all!

ETA the following excellent AIM exchange:

Hey guys~ sorry about the lack of posting. It’s been a bit hectic lately for various reasons. Also last night I was stressed out: the Irishman said he wouldn’t be late (he had a dinner thing with co-workers) but I waited up until 2am and then I got a drunken text saying he missed me. Somehow said text managed to irrationally piss me off. I tried to go to bed but I tossed and turned until I looked at the clock - 3:30am and still no Irishman. I called him several times and texted him but no answer. I began to worry (and still be pissed off at the same time) but he finally picked up the phone at around 4am and said he was in a cab. When he got home he jokingly asked me if he was in trouble, which somehow managed to push my annoyance into downright anger. I knew my reaction was disproportionate but ever since That Guy I’ve become very sensitive about people casually saying they’ll be somewhere or do something and later blow it off in a “well I didn’t PROMISE” sort of fashion. I didn’t care that he was late, I cared because he was late when he said he wouldn’t be. The least he could have done was called or texted. In the end he did realize I was sincerely upset and apologized for being an ass about it.

Sorry, that was a bit of a ramble. I suppose it’s a good sign I can openly express being upset with the Irishman because with That Guy I swallowed it all and bit my tongue for fear of him leaving me.

Hope FCD is okay, FCM. That’s the only bit of info I’ve managed to retain. :smack:

smacks Moonie on grounds of not coming enough to the WoW GQ thread

I’m considering killing someone…

My mother likes Mucha. SiL, knowing this and having seen puzzles at home, gave her a 4000 pieces Mucha puzzle, three Cristmases ago. Problems:

  1. my mother hasn’t done a puzzle by herself for at least 60 years,
  2. that puzzle is too large for even our largest table,
  3. Mom is trying to help me build the puzzle,
  4. she is unable to understand instructions which I think are simple but which evidently aren’t, like “we need to separate ‘edge pieces’ from ‘everything else’,” or “put pieces with sky blue into this bag” (that bag ended up having sky blue but also a bunch of dark somewhat bluish pieces which are from three other areas of the picture).
  5. when she works at placing pieces in, she looks only at shape. She’s unable to see that a piece of the neckline can NOT go in the middle of the face: it’s a Mucha, not a Picasso.

There should be a law against selling puzzles to people who haven’t built one in the last ten years :frowning:

Wednesday I picked up The Nephew; I wanted to go to Mom’s (we’re breaking 30C every day and it was 1pm, so 11am sunwise) but he didn’t and I think he’s got enough fights in his life so we stayed in shadowed areas instead. Mom came later; when he asked why he hadn’t seen her last week and she explained she’d been visiting her parents, he thought and told her she has to go see him “Monday, Tooday, Wenday, Thurday… and Friday;” she’s excused and can go visit people on Saturday and Sunday if he happens to be out of town (they leave on Friday sometimes, hence the moment of doubt). Later he explained that “you can play, Yaya Blasa can’t play.” Blasa’s idea of babysitting him is to have him plonked down in front of the TV, or take the kids for a walk, the Kidlette in the stroller and the Kidlet standing on a platform the stroller has. So yeah, I can see where he prefers people who’s willing to do (12 pieces tops) puzzles with him or explain that those two leaves are different because they’re from two different trees (and locate the two trees)…

Next month he gets all afternoons free; logistics to be determined after Mom and me return from Córdoba.

Hey!

It’s been a looooong week at work… but now it is finally my weekend

**FCM **-- hope FCD’s OK
**Moonie **-- isn’t there any way you can get continued health coverage? COBRA? Something throughr the Uni? A combination? I honestly don’t get a system under which a person may find themselves without at least some basic, adequate health coverage…  :frowning:
**Haze **-- we’re still waiting for the Cretan Tales you promised. Maybe Epimenedes was right – all Cretans are liars… (even those who just pass through on vacation :p)
**Rigs **-- sounds like you’re badly stressed; hang in there.
**Spaz **-- you should invite somebody to share a bottle, next time. Just sayin’
**Nava **-- 4000 piece puzzle? WANT!!! I swear I know how to separate out the edges and sort the pieces according to general areas of the picture. And match patterns when trying to connect pieces.

I’m sure there’s more, so yay, boo, trout, hugs and gropes as appropriate to anyone I’ve missed…

Happy FURDAY - that’s specially for you, Moonie! I can’t believe it, but I appear to have beat Swampy to the punch on that too.

I’m just a bit caffeinated, though, so will have to make amends and a better post later. And again, Happy Friday.

Hurrah for Friday! I am leaving work early to meet my friend and then head off to see Seth Lakeman in concert. Then it’s a weekend of domestic stuff and loft-boarding in the attic before 'im indoors comes back from Scotland on Monday.

Monday’s a holiday here, so that’s even better. But I have to be up early on Tuesday because we have an exam here that I need to be around for, so I have to get to work by about 8am just in case my shiny new boss worries herself into an early grave.

Bizarre news of the day, I got a text from a friend who came here for an interview today. Turns out the woman heading the interview panel (who is the Centre Manager for the place she’s interviewing at) is the same woman who made Eva redundant from her last job. How weird!

Off to my last day at Reference Work. Petercat’s giving me the stinkeye. He doesn’t like that I’ve been working so much lately. Hang on cat, you’ll have plenty of time with me soon.

Spaz, when you leavin’ Pirateville for good? I’ma goin’ back to Kinston June 6th for a fire class, and maybe I can swing meetin’ ya before or after…

Blurfs, Happy Firday (and Furday), and 3 day weekend w00ts for the rest of y’all.

My big weekend plans involve finally getting off my ass to tear down the pumphouse. Yee and haw. Maybe taking my seldom used canoe through the cypress swamp with the 'gators in it, too.

Thank Og it’s Firday! This week has been really NASTY and I am well and truly fed up with playing piggie in the middle between senior management power struggles! Grrrrr!

Happy Firday/Furday to everyone! And Happy Long Weekend, too! boofae, is your long weekend Memorial Weekend, as well?

noonie, are you by chance a Virgo? That’s way WAY too much puzzle organization if you’re not.

haze, honey, you be sure to punish that boy proper like. All that needs doing is insisting that he visualize turnabout. If he’s not thoroughly guilt ridden by that, then he needs the TROUT.

rigs, hang in there.

I get to leave work at 3:00 pm. YAY! I’m thinking I need to go pay my entrance fee at Ross. I am way overdue.

Laterz
