Dead Goats and Death-Defying Beaches - a Cretan MMP

No, ours is a public holiday for the sake of it. We like those!

Good morning my lovelies. I’m up and caffienating. I couldn’t sleep anymore because my back was just killing me.

I’m enjoying the first day of my four day weekend. Woot!

Hang in there, rigsy!

My daughter is basically gone for the weekend. She’s spending it with her boyfriend. They’re going to see a band play and do some other stuff.

I’m thinking yadwork and grilling are in my weekend. Plus, a bike ride. Oh, and I’m going to brunch at a friend’s house tomorrow. It’s an all female thing and there was talk of facials.

I need to wake up some more.

Morning. Canes lost last night, we had about 60 people at the airport to welcome them back. I’m working Monday, so I can tailgate on Tuesday for the game.

Yay for an early day, Puggy!

Haze, milk him for all he’s worth. Still waiting for more dead goat tales(tails?)

Enjoy you convention, Moonie. Yay for generics and pallets of ramen!

Yadwork? Taters, are you cleaning up beebs’s lawn?

See? I told you all I wasn’t awake.

No, I have not moved to BAH-ston. I meant ‘yaRdwork’.

I have a family reunion in K-town on the 7th so I’ll probably be out of town on the 6th. All together now, DAMMIT. (Of course if you want to meet up before, it’s only a 4-hour drive from here to Hometown so I don’t have to leave too early.)

Slightly headachy from the wine today. I blame the horrible lighting in New Reference Location. I won’t have to resort to the cause of and solution to all of life’s problems to deal with my unemployment blues tonight, though, because Complicated and I are going to see Terminator. I have seen more movies in the theater this year than I have in the past five years. And there’s still more coming out this summer I wanna see: GI Joe, the Johnny Depp Dillinger movie, and God help me, I may have to see Up. Pixar finally figured out I like curmudgeons.

I saw Star Trek last night. I enjoyed it, actually.

Oh, and I completely missed Tater’s birthday!! Sorry about that… Happy belated, dear!

My mother’s a Virgo. Yet one more proof that zodiac predictions are baloney.
Nooner, do you have a table of adequate size?

No, actually I’m not. But that’s OK since I think astrology is hooey anyway

See?

That depends… What was it you wanted to do on that table, again?

Home. They gave us 59 minutes, and I took 2 hours of credit time. Just made red beans and rice and sausage for my sweetie. I need to change out of my white jeans and good sneakers. I’m going to mess in my garden for a while - fresh air and sunshine - yay!

And THREE days off! Yay! Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like **FCD **will be going to Mom’s with us on Sunday - he can’t sit in the car that long - 2+ hours up, then the same back… poor baby.

That’s all I’ve got for now. Time to change and muck about. MWAH!!

First on 4!

So - do y’all want to here why it seems I am destined to not upgrade my 'puter?

Well, rosie, we might want to hear:stuck_out_tongue:

I transplanted a bunch of hostas, and I just finished mulching them. I’ve got the sprinkler running to soak the mulch.

Supper will be poke that’s been falling apart in the slow cooker all day, and beans, and chips.

**FCD **said the steroids seem to be helping his back, so yay for that! Now, if I can just keep him from overdoing anything this weekend… good luck with that.

TGIF!!!

Forgot to say earlier: sorry FCD is doing so badly. Hope he gets good treatment soon.

Home to do the last essential yard work, then back to work to tie up some loose ends, then I’ll see what’s left to do.

Eeeep. So much to do, so little time.

But I’ll be on a plane tomorrow and then I won’t be able to worry about what did and didn’t get done.

Back later.

GT

Just heard back from the Dr’s office - the disk between L4 and L5 is herniated and generally messed up. Looks like surgery… :frowning: That’ll be his 4th. Crap.

Oh, no! Poor FCD. Ow!

I’m channeling Paula Deen, and made tuna casserole, and a mess of home-grown green beans that my ‘cross-the-street-with-the-frickin’-car neighbor gave me. He’s a nice guy, even if I do bitch! My other neighbor gave me a bunch of tomatoes. All the pleasures of having a garden, without the work! Yay!

anyrose, why does it seem you are destined to not upgrade your 'puter?

Have fun, gt!

Oy, sorry to hear that.

Well, if you want to come out this way for a little medical tourism, I know a great neurosurgeon. :stuck_out_tongue:

Howdy Y’all!

Dang MOOOOOM! Sorry to hear about FCD’s back. Maybe this is the one that will do the trick! Anywho… he’ll be in my thoughts and prayers.

I have a three day weekend! YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!

Of course that comes with a schedule change, but it’s all good. I’ll be workin’ Tuesday - Saturday with Sunday and Monday off. As it happens, since this week I was still on the Monday - Friday schedule, I have tomorrow, Sunday and Monday off, so that’s good.

I shalt Christen my new smoker tomorrow by smokin’ a bunch of chicken boobs and laigs. Yay for new toy!!!

Of course, since I have a three day weekend the weather is all damp and rainy. Pool time shall be scarce. :frowning: Still 'tis three days off, so that’s all good.

Yays, boos, hugs, icks, trouts, chitlins, noogies, how you doin’s as needed.

-swampbear (over user of the word good)

We grilled, we enjoyed pina coladas, I planted several plants and a wisteria tree, and now I think I’m just gonna chill.

I have a few more plants to put in the ground, but they’ll have to wait until tomorrow.

Hugs and smooches all around.

Ug, I think everything that’s wrong with me is going wrong at once. Only the thought of tailgating, beer and May hockey keeps me going.

Neat smoker, swampy. You could bring it by and tailgate with me. No rain, but my “pool” is a tad frozen.

Poor FCD. I hope the surgury does the trick.

Taters, I wanna see Star Trek, and Terminator, if only to keep my geek cred. ^:dubious:^

Taters - I want Pina Coladas now! Tropical drinks on the deck sounds delightful!

Swampy - I am immensely jealous. I’d like to have a smoker for the sole purpose of making my own Smoked Sausage logs - you know, the 8-ounce Beef Summer Sausage sticks that are served sliced on crackers with cheese and mustard, like Hickory Farms serves at Christmas time?

Also, grats on the three-day weekend!

Rebo - Yay for free veggies! Fresh produce is the best, even if I do prefer fruit over veggie-tables.

FCM - I’m sorry to hear about FCD’s back problems. My dad has back issues stemming from being pushed into his parent’s pool by one of his brothers when he was a kid - trust me, I know how much it sucks to watch someone you care about suffering from pain. Sending De-Herniation Vibes your way.

Anyrose - I love a good Computer Gripe story! Go ahead and share!

SpazCat - I hear you! I need to come up with a lot of cash for movie tickets that I simply don’t have right now. And I’m mildly ashamed to admit, as a 21-year-old male, that I really wanna see Up. But not in 3D - no cheesy gimicks please, I just wanna watch a movie!

Doggio - Thank you, I do indeed plan to enjoy my misadventures in the Garden State, but alas, the con isn’t until next year. Fortunately, Anthrocon is in just over a month (first week of July), so I’ll have something between now and next year to keep myself occupied.

I’m still trying to decide whether I wanna call preemptive dibs on writing the Monday, July 6th MMP - it’s the day after Anthrocon ends and oh LORD I’m gonna have stories to tell.

Nooner, Nava - 4,000 pieces is impressive but I can top that. I worked at a game and puzzle shop one Christmas a couple years back and we had an 18,000 piece puzzle for sale. I wanted to buy it just to say I had completed it but it was $130!!!:eek::eek:

Nooner - The problem is that my dad is in exactly the wrong income bracket. he makes too much to qualify for assisted health coverage for me, but not nearly enough to just eat the cost of $10k/year in meds plus all my blood tests, repeated kidney biopsies, hospital stays, testing supplies, et cetera. And the Uni does not have health coverage - their job is to educate me, for a fee, not to pay for my pills and stuff. :frowning:

Tarragon, and others - Furday? Heh! I’ve inspired a tiny, localized phenomenon in one post on one message board! I’M INTERNET FAMOUS!

Seriously though, thank you, I’m both amused and flattered!

Today has been spent sitting on my tail waiting for this cold to disappear itself from my nost so’s I can breathe again. I have been munching on munchies all day - cottage cheese with pinapple, vanilla yogurt with all-natural chocolate granola, Wheat Thins topped with smoked turkey lunchmeat and cheddar cheese and sweet-hot mustard, coleslaw, cereal… nibbles All delicious. Dinner was Swedish Meatballs, brought to our table by Ikea.

I’m getting a new pair of glasses! My current pair needs repairs and will have to get sent away to the lab so that the technicians can work on my special Hubble-grade prescription and fix my specs (they’re frameless ones and the connections between the earpieces and lenses are loose and wobbly, leading to all manner of misery); since I’m blind as a bat without 'em, I’m getting a spare pair with the same prescription. I picked out these bold, modern, European-style frames that should look quite sexy with my driving cap and typical outfit. Pics will be posted as soon as I have them. Oh, and while we (the maternal unit and myself) were out getting glasses, we stopped and got shaved-ice snowballs from a stand in the parking lot that is locally famous for their freaking AMAZING freezy treats. Ny first snowball of the year - it is now officially summer!

Tomorrow is Family Memorial Day Crab Massacre and Feast. A bushel of crabs, bratwursts, coleslaw, grammom’s guaranteed-to-send-you-to-an-early-grave-with-a-smile-on-your-face potato salad, fresh fruit, corn on the cob, beerverages and sodas and much much more. This will necessitate getting up early to go grocery shopping, but as a consolation, breakfast shall be Eggs Benedict in honor of a belated birthday and Mother’s Day for my mom. So basically tomoroow will consist wholly of eating delicious, unhealthy food. Awwwwwwwwwwww yeah!

Now if you’ll excuse me… tucks tail between his legs and flees, whimpering, under the couch to escape Nava’s whacks
