Deadpool and Wolverine (new trailer in OP, open spoilers)

New Rockstars sorted out the timeline in a video.

That was a reference to the comic book Wolverine’s mask which not only looked like that but for awhile got more and more outrageously “winged”.

It goes along with the yellow and blue suit, which is also from the comic books.

Well, yeah, the actor was what, 20 years older than when he last played the character?

Speaking as one of those fans… it wasn’t so much that I was pissed as that it had always been kind of cool to me that there was a superhero MY size (I’m also 5’3" tall) instead of 6 foot+ guys and tall, statuesque Amazon women which I definitely was not. Wolverine was short and stocky, so am I, and in my nerdy way I could relate to that.

Then they cast a guy over six feet tall to play him. grr

But I resolved to keep an open mind and I did, and still do, think Jackman turned out to be an excellent choice to play the character. Jackman’s version of the character worked very well. Didn’t have all the references to comic book Wolverine’s short stature, of course, but everything else was in place. Jackman himself has mentioned that he had some concerns when he learned of the fan reaction but he won us over (well, there probably are one or two died hards still out there, but tough for them). It’s always been kind of cool that he’s acknowledged that not only was there a difference but that it was important to people. He’s also a good enough actor that he nailed the role even while having some significantly different traits than the original.

Absolutely loved “Short King” Logan, though, it was a nice bit of fan service.

Honestly, the crammed 50 years of fan service to the character into the nooks and crannies of the movie.

Yes. It’s the kind of satire that can only be made by a true fan. Or fans.

We sort of got both, didn’t we?

I do like the nod to the Fox films - without X-men there might never have been an Ironman and the launch of the MCU.

It’s alright. No movie is for everyone. De gustibus non est disputandum. No doubt there are movies that you like and I don’t. Peace. :peace_symbol:

Heck, wasn’t Wolverine/Logan also driving a (glorified) cab for a living at the same time as those self-driving trucks were on the highways?

Actually, I think Deadpool traveled forward in time to when Logan was deceased. Time travel makes keeping track of these things loopy.

^ This.

Did everyone catch the Rob Liefeld reference and the Stan Lee cameo?

Those were in our faces. How many people spotted the wreckage of the Milano in the wasteland of the void?

The actress, or the cookie?

Starlords original ship, actually named after the actress. And I did spot it!

Since I was just telling a friend about the Rogerverse F4, I was prepared, and did a fist pump.

…was AMAZING. I often judge an action movie by the bad guy.

.

Already did, thanks!
(and I have ridiculously high standards for Marvel/DC/Disney/Pixar/Star Trek/Star Wars movies)

Her fingers were insufficiently fingy, so they added more fing.

Oof those are so well done. Long enough to look “off”, but not look enough to be an obvious mutation.

I’m reminded of Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder. Apparently the freakishly fat fingers (and the mid-credit dance scene) were both his idea.

There is an establishing shot when the road warriors are first taking Deadpool and friends to Cassandra Nova where there are three rolling creatures with balls suspended above them. They reminded me of Polarians from Piers Anthony via Wayne Barlowe. Anyone know if that is what they are supposed to be, or if they are an easter egg for something else?

Never heard of Polarians before.

The critters shown in the movie were first seen in the Loki TV series and seem to be wildlife. Whether they’re native to the Void or from somewhere else is never established, and indeed no one seems to talk about or name these critters. Heck, who even knows if they’re organic critters or some sort of robot?

It’s been a while since it came out. I’ve been waiting, but I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere, so I guess I have to ask: Was that Kim Basinger, in a one-line cameo role as a TVA staffer saying, “Fine indeed. . .” while looking at Wolverine’s shirtless physique near the end of the movie?

She’s not credited or listed as uncredited in any of the usual places and I’m getting no hits on Google, so I’m going to say no. Also, I don’t think this looks like her.

On the other hand, I can’t find a credit for that character for anyone, which is odd for an actor with a speaking part (however brief), so…

I’m not a KB expert, but I don’t think that actor resembles her at all.

Also, KB is currently 70 years old.

Hey, thanks for the replies. :clinking_glasses:

It just feels like a cameo to me, like the line is only there because Kim Basinger was willing to do a cameo. For that matter, if they really wanted that line in the movie, there was a dark-haired woman prominently shown sitting at a console in earlier TVA scenes that might have been used for the “fine indeed” line delivery. Why use a new actress?

Yes, I also think it’s odd for someone with a speaking line in a HUGE movie like this not to have a credit. Either this is KB or an unknown that I think looks like her. Surely the unknown would want credited in a movie of this size.

I have a fairly decent idea what KB looks like these days. I mulled it over for days before posting, and googled her to get some current images. I watched, “The Nice Guys” recently, which was filmed in 2016, and it was remembering her in that movie that brought her to mind. Here she is in a short interview from that time.

I still think it looks like her, but I’m not about to insist that it is. I’d just like a definitive answer either way. In the internet age, I’m used to having the instant gratification of an answer. I’m spoiled now.

And yes, clearly I have too much time on my hands.

Saw it tonight and loved it. A good send-off for the X-Men verse. I managed to go in mostly spoiler-free and wasn’t expecting as many cameos as there were, and the in-jokes and Easter eggs were all top-notch. The archive footage from the old X-Men movies set to “Good Riddance” was a nice touch and sent me back for a minute to being 17 years old watching the first X-Men movie in the theater in 2000.

I think that was part of the meta-story of this movie - Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was the most popular character in Fox’s Marvel movies, so his being killed off in Logan meant the franchise had no reason to continue. They did mention that without Paradox’s attempted intervention, Earth-10005 would have continued to coast on for several thousand years before it fell apart. And if one person is going to be the anchor point of a universe, it makes sense that it would be a guy who (mostly) can’t die.

For that matter, given that comics Wolverine once regenerated from a single cell, it’s not a given that Earth-10005’s Wolverine was dead dead even after Deadpool dug him up and used his remains as a weapon.

I liked the movie well enough but given that I no longer (even attempt to) follow any multi-verse anythings I didn’t understand why DP was no longer with the woman he spent all of the 2nd DP movie trying to save.
Can someone please give me a short refresher without thinking too poorly of me?
