Thanks, all.
{{Midget}} Just keep hangin’ in there, kid.
Two loads of laundry and one load of dishes completed; 2 more laundry and 1 more of dishes (actually pans and other large stuff) to go. Rain is gone but the clouds remain; it’s 50F now, but going to the 60’s later today. Raisin bread toasted, buttered, and consumed so all is right with the world.
We made the executive decision not to deheathenate this mornin’. We shall, however, attend Evensong at five p.m. So, we broke the fast big with scrambled cheesey aigs, bacon, grits and toast. I have a roast beast in the crockpot and shall have peas, butterbeans ‘n okra, squish, rice ‘n gravy and cornbread for a late N.O.L. Tonight after Evensong we shall nosh at a reception. In between times, I shall empty dishes out of the china cabinet in the kitchen (where the everyday stuff lives), and other stuff to commence gettin’ the kitchen ready for Tuesday when the removal of wallpaper and paintin’ shall commence. Fun times ahead this week. I foresee lots of takeout comestibles.
I did discover that bourbon aged smoked Texas whiskey is a thing, and it is awesome.
So I got that going for me. Which is nice.
We tried a new place for breakfast - an hole-in-the-wall place in Calvert County. A bit of a ride, but worth it. And it’s a pretty ride, so there’s that.
There are a few chores on the agenda today, the most painful being gatherage of sticks and branches. Most a chill day, I think.
It’s all going white again out there
Not impressed. It’s only a thin layer, nothing a sensible place would worry about, but this is seriously freak weather for the area. Hope they don’t cancel skool tomorrow, we only just caught up with the stuff they had to reschedule last time.
She’s a northern neighbor; she’s liable to end up with frostbite if she does.
Sounds yumerific. You’ll share your discovery in August, right? RIGHT! ![]()
Did the group run & then went straight to the groc; receipt says that was a mistake. :o But I was the very first customer when they announced they were selling soft pretzels for some charity. ![]()
They bake & sell bagels on Sundays; today they had 'lectric green ones that looked like they used water from the Chicago River.
Lawn dairy needs to be done, but most of the day’s must-do list is completed, well 'cept for one important thing. Since I only had about 3½ sleep last night, & since I missed St. Party’s Day, & since having one drink & stopping makes me sleepy, I’s cracked a nice green (colored can of) beer & shall assume the horizontal position whenst it becomes an empty vessel. ![]()
…momentarily. :o
Corned beef and veg was meh last night. The beast, potatoes and carrots were quite good, but the cabbage went sour. It tasted fine before it went in.
Also, it wasn’t that cheap. I paid $2.50/lb, but half of it was fat, and after it cooked it was shrunk down to less than half it’s original size. I figure it cost me >$10.00/lb for the finished product. I can get good corned beef at the deli for $11 or $12, (I forget) and it’s already cooked, de-fatted and sliced. I’m prolly gonna do that so I can use up all this rye bread, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and 1000 island dressing I bought for the non-existent leftovers. :smack:
Today is a working-on-taxes day. I wouldn’t mind quite as much if I thought we were getting something of value for our money.
We have de-sticked the back yard. It was a hot and sweaty chore and we’re both beat. That’s the problem with sitting at a desk all week - you can’t handle minimal physical exertion. Plus we’re old, so that doesn’t help… <sigh>
I think I’ll try to finish my niece’s afghan. I need to figure out how to put on elephant ears, then I’ve got to embroider the Alabama “A” in one corner. Embroidery isn’t my strong suit.
Laundry and dishes are done, so the house and I are modestly presentable. Have to drop off a bag of soccer equipment to one of the coaches, then heading towards Red Robin (yum!) for a late lunch/early dinner.
Somebody is out mowing the yard–I refuse to do so until we’re in April; one must have some boundaries.
Mrs. Plant (v.3.0) contributed a green Irish party hat to the seasonal skeletons across the street. Themselves at Halloween, a turkey at Thanksgiving, lights at Christmas.
We emptied out two cabinets full of dishes in the kitchen. They now reside in boxes in the dinin’ room until they can go back where they live. Three smaller stand alone cabinets were moved into the master bedroom because that bedroom is off the kitchen so it was just easier to move ‘em in there. Tomorrow I shall move everything off the kitchen counters into the dinin’ room. Stuff on the bathroom counters will get moved into cabinets under the sinks for the duration. One bathroom at a time is bein’ done cause well, one needs a functional bathroom. Oh and I’ll need to move stuff out of the laundry room but that’s not a lot of stuff so there’s that. Anywho, we’re through for the day and shall consume vittles in about an hour then purtify for Evensong.
Thus has been Sunday at da cave.
Happy Sunday!
It’s a very N.O.S. day outside and supposed to warm up to 55.
Then snow on Toosday.
I have lots to do and no motivation to do it.
I too need to pick up sticks, but I have other more important things to do.
One of which is take Ripple outside and give him a good brushing. He’s got tufts of fur sticking out all over the back half and looks a mess and he is getting fur all over the place.
I don’t like brushing dogs indoors if I can help it.
I don’t know what gets into that dog sometimes. I ate a piece of chicken today and since it was small I cut up a hot dog into his food for him. Nope, he wanted the chicken. Then I had some cheese and crackers, and since the cheese was almost gone I sprayed some liver on a cracker for him. He turned his head away, he wanted cheese. He’ll eat the liver any other time, but he wants what I have.
MetalMouse I have debated rehoming one of the brats, but this morning I woke up and they were both sleeping on the love seat.
{{{Midget}}} I hope your hand feels better soon.
I hear you about the BS assignments Nuts. My son makes me crazy when he has them because he never knows what to say.
I have a few stashes of my own. ![]()
I hear ya. I’ve got to get some quarterly forms turned into my disability forms today. They are important and mind-numbing. Important. Bleah. I will do eeeeet. But it’s really hard some days to adult.
Mooommm I got my machine with Win7 loaded on it at CostCo. If’n you can’t do that, you may also still be able to buy Win7 OS to load up. You could try starting a thread off in GA, to get other thoughts. I think it’s still possible. Resistance!
Spidey feel better. It sounds like you had an exciting day yesterday.
Good lord is this true. My husband is talking about locking the cabinets. I’ve had to smack him down a few times (metaphorically). The kid’s grown about 6 inches in 6 months. We’re just all used to worrying about him. I think the appetite just comes with the age.
Two things I could actually help you with! But I am not there.
Is the “A” pieced, or are you going to embroider the whole thing? It may be easier to piece it and then sew it on.
D’oh. We forgot to put on “bear”'s hat. We have a carved wooden bear on our doorstep that gets decorated for holidays. He has a St. Pat’s hat.
We had thunderstorms yesterday. I had two very oblivious dogs, and one very cuddly Swissie. He slept on top of me all night. Ooof.
Highs this week from the 40s to low 60s. Rain and thunderstorms most of the week.
Hope to learn how screwed the Suburban is tomorrow. We actually bought the extended warranty, for the first time ever. We’ll see if that’s worth the paper it’s printed on to.
I think we’re looking at Toyota Sequoia to replace it. If I want to tow something, I want to get where I’m going, and they’ve got great service records. They’ll handle what we need. Live and learn I guess.
Thus endeth today’s chapter.
Oooh, ooh Mooomm. One more thought. Iron on pieces? If you’ve got the pieces, you can get different types of iron on backing that will make them more resistant to wear and tear, and then you can add the stitching as you like. Separate, but related, you might even find a pretty iron on, embroidered “A”.
I found a counted cross-stitch pattern on line for the A. The afghan is done, and I’m debating whether I want to do it or not. It’s just not my strong craft and I don’t want to make a crappy-looking one. The afghan is in the correct colors - that should be enough, right?
I chopped up the leftover rotissed chickie for salad. That and a leftover piece of catfish will be supper, along with boxed scalloped N.O.T. and some strawberries. **FCD **is napping and I just finished making up the deposit envelope for our tax refund. I pass the credit union on my way in, so I’ll deposit it in the morning. Hope the fed refund shows up in the mailbox. I contacted the Credit Union and asked if something was going on but I haven’t heard back yet. So weird…
Word of warning: The latest chipsets were designed to hork a hair ball if they see Win7. You are better off getting something that was made for Win7. MicroCenter is your friend.
I vote yes!
Alien - good point. I know the machines are out there, but boy does Microsoft make it hard to do business with them
With toppings that would be a pretty good swap!!! ![]()
Did a single and a half today; the half because of something you wouldn’t understand unless you had ever worked at Da Jungle.
(IE HR and the hub screwed up again)
The nearest Costco is over 30 miles away so I’m not a member and I don’t shop there. I’m pretty much resigned to having to get a Win10 machine. But I’m still not ready to take the plunge. My machine still works. I’m thinking maybe the slowness is more our internet provider than my machine.
And I’m thinking maybe I won’t even bother with the A on the afghan. I think the team colors will be enough. I’ve also made one crimson stuffed elephant, and I’m going to make a white one also. I think that’s the plan now.
Supper has been ingested - we didn’t have lunch so we had an early supper. We shall be lazy for the rest of the evening.
