I was messing around in the Pit and accidentally clicked on someone’s Test Sig Thread. What I saw there immediately brought to mind the well-known third definition cited above. I am not going to post who’s sig I saw (although you could find it pretty easily if you haven’t seen it already), but I am going to share it with you:
**
Now, I am not taking offense here because I am WallyM7 (I’m not). Nor am I picking a fight with this poster because I have argued with him or her before (I have). Instead, I point it out here simply because it is an assholian thing to do - This individual has gone out of his or her way to try to make another poster look bad.
Sigh. That’ll teach me to try and get my point across in as few words as possible. Let me try again.
"As if the poster who is putting Wally’s quote in his sig hasn’t said so many stupid things of his/her own that one hundred other people could fill their sig lines to DRY quantity with his/her blatherings.
That poster (who is trying to defame Wally) is a putz."
My fault for trying not to immediately give away the identity of said asshole.
I like Wally. I like him a lot. However, I have no illusions that he can’t be abrasive at times. I don’t know if he acually said what is attributed to him, but it wouldn’t surprise me much. Simply based on the quotation, it seems like he might have been blowing off steam, and possibly ill-advised. IPU knows I’ve said some impolite things in my day, and some of them have come back to haunt me.
At the risk of pissing people off, I’ll admit that I also like Said Poster (why not just say the name?). I suppose SP overheard it (it’s unlikely IMO that he’d make up something like that–it’s too verifiable), and saved it for future use. Perhaps he has a personal beef with Wally, or is getting in a dig for what he perceives to be a disparity between the Wally quotation cited above and Wally’s comments on the board. I don’t know. I don’t care. Wally doesn’t need defenders.
Was it an assholian act? I think so. Is he an asshole? Possibly. Does it bother him that you think he is? Doubtful.
Well, I don’t know who SP is - I guess I haven’t come across that sig yet - but when I do see it, I’ll know exactly who to place in my ‘asshole’ file, and it ain’t Wally.
Let’s see - first of all, I don’t see anything that shows that Wally was talking about the SDMB, except for the bit added by the ‘quoter’. A quote taken completely out of context like this, without the surrounding discussion that went along with it, means doodly-shit. He could have been talking about any techs any where.
Second, if it was about the SDMB, so what? Wally’s not entitled to an opinion? For all I know, he may be right. There have certainly been other posters here who said much harsher things!
Third, I suspect this ‘quote’ came from something said on another message board. Anyone care to address the ethics of taking something someone says on one message board and posting it to another message board it was not intended for?
Fourth - obviously, the intent of ‘SP’ is to make Wally look bad on this board. It’s a cowardly, childish thing to do. If ‘SP’ has a problem with Wally, he should start a thread in the BBQ Pit, where Wally can defend himself if he so chooses. Taking snide potshots at someone in a thread where they are not allowed, by the rules, to respond, is despicable. Using a sig to attack someone, rather than posting it up-front like an adult, is despicable.
SP’s user name wouldn’t be ‘Gutless Wonder’, would it? It would fit, the yellow coward.
Leaving aside the issues of appropriate behavior regarding quoting other people in a sig (possibly without permission), cross-posting quotes from other boards, and a host of other possible topics that have been or could be addressed, here,
I would point out that I suspect that it was not the intention of SP to make Wally look bad. I suspect SP simply found the quote amusing and intended to give Wally credit for the wit.
That was my assumption as well, Tom. Perhaps Said Poster wanted to show that not even popular and well-liked posters are immune to pique over technical issues.
Or perhaps not.
Hopefully, Said Poster will make an appearance . . .
Said Poster is an asshole indeed, and he has proven this on many an occasion. Since we already know the quote was crossposted, assholianism has been established.
Further, since this is obviously gonna be a Said Poster-bashing thread, I would like to add the fact that Said Poster doesn’t care much for facts, but rather seems to enjoy pissing people off by posting obviously inflammatory remarks in fora not meant for such sentiments. Cowardice, if you ask me. Would Said Poster vent his disgust for a certain ballgame (which is popular in Europe and South-America) in the appropriate forum (which would be the Pit), the offendees of his remarks could deal with him in the appropriate way. Yet, Said Poster chooses the shelter of a more civil forum, at least for as long as the Subsequent Moderator (or SM, for short) will allow.
I think ColdFire has already given away who said poster is. Who does indeed seem to be an asshole royale. I don’t think I’m giving away anything here. But for the sake of anominity let’s refer to them as K Original. No wait that’s too obvious, let’s refer to them as Krispy O.
Gee, I haven’t read anything this much fun since I cruised through CFR last time. (note: that’s Code of Federal Regulations, which runs a few hundred volumes, all written in densest legalese.) Not that it isn’t illuminating if you don’t mind sorting out the verbiage from the teeth in the juglar underpinnings…
Speaking in the persona of a vacant-eyed, tongue-chewing Everyman dolt with a long-barreled Kentucky rifle under the coat, I’d offer that Wally is a deadpan, funny, honest and pithy good guy. Mess with him and I’ll remove your balls with the lid of rusty soup can. Krispy Original–well, he’s an original, all right. He goes his way, I go mine.
So all in all I’m willing to stay neutral. The arcane board politics and personalities get pretty tedious.
But if by some stupid, mistaken, careless chance you are referring to Wally, then I’ll have to wake up–which pisses me off right there–, get moving and stomp your sorry self into a quivering, bleeding, disgusting goo–and then stand you up and do it again, just to teach you mannners.
Ain’t nobody kinder–tough, honest, but heart kind–than Wally. No implied insult to KO; just never got a handle on him.
So…if you’re firing some shots, just take care what kinda war you’re lookin’ to start.
And while we’re on the subject of Said Poster, I humbly submit this little gem that Said Poster started a few days ago, no doubt testing the waters in the new IMHO Forum. Well, that’s what his explanation will be anyway.
Not trying to make light of your valued impartiality Vebbie, but I suggest you read it too. Just to get a handle on him, so to speak…
Could y’all quit fuckin’ around and calling the dipshit “Said Poster”? You haven’t “said” who the poster is, so you can’t refer to him as “Said Poster”.
You can call the jackass “Anonymous Poster” or “Unnamed Poster” or even “Afforementioned Poster”
BUT
stop calling the spit-baby “Said Poster” as you would need to say something like this in order to do so:
“Squishy Generic has started some real dipshit threads, but this isn’t the only reason I think said poster is a total nimrod.”
Not only that, but if you’re gonna start a pit thread about someone, why not just come out and name the fool?
What’s the big deal?
That’s what the Pit’s for! Someone pisses you off to the point that you can’t stand it, so you come on down to the pit and let 'em have it.
What’s with this “Names have been changed to protect the stupd…” shit?
I saw Krispy’s sig and did what any normal person would do. I laughed.
Krispy doesn’t like me because when he posts something moronic, I call him on it . Manny others have as well, but I guess I’m a little more abrasive than I ought to be.
Still, if he uses that sig, it will tell people more about him than me.
And although sdimbert and I have exchanged some unfriendly words in the past, he/she obviously has a sense of honour, which I have always admired in a person.
To set the record straight, I am the author of those words that Krispy attributes to me. I said it in a fit of pique and regretted it moments after. On that particular board, a poster has the option of deleting his post, but I have never used it.
