It doesn’t quite fit - NotFooledbyW is monomaniacally insane, but not as resentful as our resident backwards anarchist. I can visualize a universe where NotFooled has gotten laid at least once in his life. Der Trihs - not so much.

I recall twitting DT many years ago about how one of his favorite webcomics was written by an active and observant Mormon. IIRC, he was not best pleased.

Heh! I’ve been here for over a decade, and I never did get it. I had to ask, and someone explained it to me.
Personally, I like Der Trihs. Yes, he always exaggerates his points. Where a reasonable person might say, “Religion has some negative aspects as well as some positive ones,” he’ll burst at the seams and turn green and declare something like Religion is the single most harmful thing in the entire history of human civilization. His volume knob is permanently stuck at 12.
But he posts with honor. He doesn’t do straw-man games; he doesn’t participate in Bricker-ish (rhymes with licorice) dictionary games; he doesn’t manipulate cites. He never attacks the person: he doesn’t call names or sneer or engage in clever “gotcha” wordplay. He never distorts what someone says to make it seem to mean something it didn’t actually mean. He simply says what he believes, straight-forwardly and with honesty and integrity.
So, yeah, he ought to go to a mechanic and get a muffler installed…but I’ll take him over, oh, Starving Artist any day, thrice over, and with change. Exchanging posts with him is a comfortable experience; exchanging posts with certain others here is poisonously unpleasant.
This is so mindbogglingly false that I wonder if you’re thinking of the same poster as is being discussed.
Der Trihs’s entire repertoire consists of conversation that goes like this:
Normal, non-psychotic person: I am a Christian
DerT: ALL Christians are diseased womyn hating scumbags.
or
Normal non-psychotic person: I am a Republican who thinks that there were better ways to fix the admittedly broken health-care system than Obamacare or Single Payer
DerT: Republicans are all uncaring murderous brutes who club baby seals to death with axe-handles made from endangered species of trees while smoking cigars made by slave labor and using $100 bills to light them. *
Except by the arcane, convoluted rules of GD that have accreted over time, this is a clear, direct, personal insult and name-calling in every other place for discussion in the world.
So does a Klansman…when you’re spewing hate, honestly believing it is nothing to be proud about.

I think your post, in a nut shell (so to speak) sums up exactly why DT has gotten the free ride he’s gotten on this board for so long. Had he done similar things from a different perspective I have zero doubt he’d have been banned years ago, regardless of his contributions in other forums on this board. But most people on this board are basically on the same political or philosophic side as he is on most subjects, so he gets a pass, especially since he’s adept at rules lawyering (i.e. he will, in a thread full of folks who are Republicans/Christians/Conservatives/Americans/Whoever else he hates this week, simply call all <insert group> evil…he’s not attacking the poster, merely making a blanket statement after all! Agreed. But he doesn’t say “You are a woman-hater.” He doesn’t play the “You said X, but you didn’t really mean it” game. He spouts, but he doesn’t get directly ad hominem. He doesn’t play the games that…so many others do.
I don’t agree with him. I’ve made that clear in many and many a post directly to him. He doesn’t shoot back at me; he doesn’t say, “Well, you’ve been blinded by the religious establishment” or any kind of crap. He disagrees with me, in exactly the same way I disagreed with him.
He’s in earnest. He isn’t a “gamer.” He has his beliefs, and he states them.

I strongly disagree with this. There is absolutely no difference between “You are a woman-hater” and “Everyone who shares your self-identification is a woman-hater” except in the murky world of GD loopholes.

In a previous ATMB thread on the subject, XT had said that there was nothing wrong with claiming transgender people were mentally ill and delusional in GD, yet claiming libertarians were sociopaths was very obviously different, and clearly the first is an OK thing to do and the second totally wrong.
Personally, I think both are wrong in GD/Elections, but then, I’m not an asshole.
