Sooooo, is Miguel a friend, or is he setting up Dexter to take a fall, a really really big fall? From the previews it looks like Dexter might even admit to being the BHB, but I don’t think he’ll go quite that far. But Miguel will probably figure it out and he’ll maybe admit to it then. On the one hand, it’s always bugged me the way Miguel is getting into Dexter’s head and fishing around like he’s just being the ADA that he is (in the previews it seems like Dexter is going to be explaining why he uses all the plastic wrap, so he doesn’t make a crime scene). OTOH, there is the chance the he actually does get Dexter and maybe they really are on the same wavelength. So, I meant to ask this last time. For the last few kills, would Miguel be on the hook in one way or another. I assume for sure as an accomplice when he helped remove the body, but what about as entrapment for something?
I have to wonder if Dexter will tell Miguel to tell his wife that he has a drug abuse problem. That would explain the previous nights out and secrecy, and “I quit drugs and I’m going to start rehab” would explain the future nights out. Worked for Dexter.
One last thing, I seem to recall Camilla hid a bunch of files about Dexters mom after it happened. Did Dexter ever get ahold of those. It’s odd that they made this whole big two episode thing out of her and it really didn’t move the story foward at all. In fact, it didn’t really do much of anything. It seems like they could have left it out entirely. Oh. Wait. Nevermind. It’s his first kill of someone that didn’t kill someone else, a good person. Dexter called it a mercy kill, but maybe it’ll open the doors.
PS, did they ever find Doake’s(sp) body?
I’m more worried about Miguel asking him to kill the defense lawyer. That would be against Dexter’s code (not that Dexter has been all that careful about his code this season).
As for Doakes, didn’t his body get burned up in the shack explosion?
Rita is for that as well, but Rita is also there to keep him from being described as “quiet, keeps to himself and has no friends/family” - In other words, as much as a cover as anything. He still has to figure out what emotion to display when it comes to Rita. Back in Season 1 - he specifically mentions that he chose Rita because she was just as broken as he was - its a recent change that he is coming to terms with his feelings for her.
With Camilla, while he had to struggle with the “code” a little, and justify it (“mercy killing”), it showed that he truly had emotions of ‘caring’ to deal with. (if he hadn’t, 1) he wouldnt have visited as much 2.) would’ve watched her suffer - unable to move beyond his “code”).
Camilla also provides yet another person who seems to “get” Dexter this season.
So who’s the Skinner? Miguel would seem to be a logical choice but maybe too obvious. I thought Quinn was going to be a bad guy in hiding from the get-go, but again maybe it’s too obvious. The CI guy (forgot his name)? It would be kinda lame for Deb to find out that she got involved with ANOTHER killer, so I don’t think it would be him. The less obvious choices would be Miguel’s wife or the Asian/American chick that’s been hounding Deb about ratting out Quinn.
More likely Miguel’s wife will tell Miguel what Rita said about Dexter’s addiction and affair. She did make a comment about Dexter being a bad influence, and later said she wished he was, because “I’d know how to fix that.” I wonder what she meant?
The thing is, will Miguel believe it? He’s been around drug addicts and he should be able to see that Dexter doesn’t fit the profile. So he’ll know that Dex lied about the addiction – will he figure out that it was a cover for something worse?
Didn’t Camilla tell Dex that she destroyed the file. “I read it before I destroyed it”? Or did she say she read it before giving it to Dexter. I don’t remember details of the first season.
I didn’t like Dexter confessing to Camilla about killing Brian, but apparently Camilla was okay with it. But still, why burden someone who’s on their deathbed with a confession?
I’m so glad Dexter refused to target Ellen. He’s too smart not to realize all the good that defense attorneys do, as much as we rant about them sometimes.
I think all she meant is that if she could pinpoint Dex as causing some of their marital issues, she could (more or less) forbid them from hanging out, or at least she’d know what the problem is. Right now, she has no idea what’s going on. But it seems like he could just show her all the Ellen stuff and explain what Ellen is doing to the justice system the same way he explained it to Dex. At least then she might understand where all the tension is coming from.
I don’t think Miguel would have to beleive it. Once Dexter opens up about previous murders (and it looks like he will this Sunday based on the previews), he can just tell Miguel that it was his cover.
Also, the thing is, he’s been around people that arn’t just drug addicts, they’re drug addicts that have been busted. I think most people would be surprised to find out how many drug addicts have white collar jobs and keep their addiction to the point where no one really notices. Besides, I’m not sure Rita technically knows what the “addiction” was. I think were made to beleive it’s heroin, but Dexter could say it was cocaine or ‘pot’ or sex (oooh, that works with the affair doesn’t it, which Rita reminded us all of).-----Wait, Dexter used his knowledge of the drug to immobilize the ex husband without killing him. The ‘only possible way’ he could have known that was to be a user.
Hmmm, I think she said she read it before she detroyed it. But whatever she said, she said it in such a way that she knew that dex knew he had a brother. Now that I think about it, I think some of those missing files explained that Dex’s mom was bait for a big drug bust and that’s how the kids got caught in the container, that’s also has something to do with how her and Harry met.
And to whomever asked, the CI is Anton
Oh and regarding Miguel. Jimmy Smits is doing a hell of a job. I have to admit though, I think the only thing I’ve ever seen him in is Switch. But still, I assume the Mexican persona/accent isn’t natural, it’s convincing as hell though.
Nitpick: He’s supposed to be Cuban, as are the majority of the important hispanic characters on the show.
Enjoying this season so far, no sign yet of any shark jumping knocks on wood though Dexter seems to be getting uncharacteristically reckless as time goes on.
Still very impressed with the writing in this show, it just never gets old.
My WAG:
At some point, Dexter confides in Miguel about what he really is. Miguel will either 1) be repulsed, and try to take him down, or 2) accept it, and go all crazy vigilante himself, possibly killing someone who’s really innocent. Either way, he ends up in Dexter’s plastic wrap by the end of the season.
The writers always seem to surprise me though, so most likely, none of that will happen, and I’ll just end up feeling foolish for trying to get ahead of them
I think it would be kind of interesting if the season ended without Miguel being “taken care of”; Miguel takes what he learned from Dexter and decides to wage his own personal war on the criminal underworld. Dexter recognizes something about the killings and finds that Miguel is using poor judgment in taking down his perps, so now he has to track down a friend gone awry, one who is a cop AND who knows Dexter’s methods and history. Of course, they could cut to the chase and have that happen this season, I suppose.
I like your WAG. I can’t see the situation with Miguel being resolved any other way. Dex and Miguel are both too dangerous to each other.
Glad to see Deb and Anton finally get it on. And it’s so nice when characters get to know and like each other a bit before hitting the sack. I like Deb this season, and Anton is hot. Is this the first week we’ve heard his name?
I really like Deb this season too (especially the haircut), and that was one hot, long-awaited kiss (can’t decide which one I like better – Deb/Anton this week or the one from House 2 weeks ago, they were both really sizzling and awkward). I seem to remember his name being mentioned in just about every episode he’s been in, but that may just be a case of retroactive memory modification, heh.
I don’t trust Miguel at all, I think he’s using Dexter the same way that Harry did. The whole thing with him trying to get Dexter to kill the lawyer just added to my suspicion. Eventually, he’s not going to take no for an answer, and then Dex is in trouble.
I also don’t think it bodes well that Miguel’s wife is now Rita’s boss. Dexter and Rita are pretty much under their thumbs now.
They got picked up for a 4th and 5th season like a week or two ago.
In regards to Miguel wanting the female lawyer (ellen?) dead, Miguel wanted her killed off because she was being a thorn in his side as well as the fact that she was “aiding” criminals out of prison to do more damage to society. Dexter didn’t believe she was part of his code because she was just doing her job and doing it well. Miguel believed that she was any better than the criminals she let off, she was screwing him over personally and he wanted her out of the picture. It was personal to Miguel. Dexter, Rita and kids went over to Miguel’s for dinner and hang out after dinner and setting up a movie for the kids Dexter and Miguel began to talk about the whole Ellen lawyer, this is where Dexter tells him “no, I won’t kill her”, Miguel goes off the hook, spewing all this venom about her and Dexter just says, “she’s doing her job, and she even got people that were wrongfully convicted out and set up charities to help unjust convictions”, Miguel says we’re friends, friends help each other out, Dexter refuses, Miguel bursts in anger and swears at Dexter. Dexter leaves right away with kids and rita in tow because he’s not that good at conflict resolution (he might kill him).
Then we cut to a scene with Lt. Maria Leguerta convincing Ellen to get Albert Chung into custody by getting him to go to Ellen’s office where Maria would have surveillance set up with cops ready to get him.
Afterwards Miguel calls Dexter to meet at a bar, and he explains that he doesn’t take No for an answer and he’s grateful that Dexter a True friend can have the balls to say no to him. Then Miguel said and friends apologize when they’re wrong too, so he says sorry. Miguel heard/knew that Ellen was part of the bust of Albert Chung at her office (either from Lt. Leguerta or from usual protocol of lawyers). Dex and Miguel’s relationship goes to another level of trust, Dex asks miguel to be his best man.
That’s pretty much a recap of the whole Miguel Dex story arc in this episode.
In the first season, Dexter often went to the records clerk Camilla to ask for files on the criminals he wanted to slice and dice. It seems odd that Camilla wouldn’t have noticed that the perps in the files she supplied to Dexter soon ended up missing – surely there were missing persons reports and/or police reports filed on each case. And yet, Camilla never gave any indication (that I’m aware of) that she knew what Dexter was up to. I suppose she could have been blissfully unaware – but that seems odd, considering most of the bodies were identified in the “Bay Harbor Butcher” case, right? For a good plot twist, it would have been great if Camilla would have said on her deathbed (in between bites of the perfect Key Lime Pie), “Keep up the good work, Dexter!” LOL.
IMHO, by the end of this season, Dex will be forced to kill his pal Miguel and his Miguel’s brother, too. Maybe Miguels wife as well. Carnage makes great television.
Rita has a hot body for a MILF – watch the first episode of this season for proof. Wow.
Deb’s romance with the guitar playing confidential informant will not end well. And the actress playing Deb surely has signed a “no nudity” clause in her contract, damn it. lol.
I"m stumped…Who in the hell is doing the “skinning” of anyone related to the Freebo case? Perhaps it could be the new young bald headed detective dude with the shady morals? Or it could be the guy from “Silence of the Lambs?”
I thought she did that, I mean basically. Didn’t she say something about knowing what he’s done? He told her he killed his brother, but I got the gist that she knew about all the rest.
He’s still on my list of suspects for that, and if not for that for something, he’s got to be up to something. OTOH, he’s way to pale to be the guy hanging around in trees in the Miami sun all day.
Has anyone wondered if some aspect of Dexter’s Dark Passenger is tidying up ‘loose ends’, by removing those who have seen him in ‘compromising situations’ from any future equations? We’ve already seen him stray slightly from his ‘code’, but would a ‘code of avoiding detection at ANY cost’ be his ultimate survival guideline? I accept this theory falls to bits if any of “The Skinner’s” victims haven’t seen Dexter. I’m gonna have to watch the first 6 episodes again. What a chore!
