DFW Dopers looky here

Hello all!
It’s me, the wayward baboon.

The dfw gang o’ dopes (er, dopers) would like to celebrate a new dfw-er Manda Jo and celebrate Lord Jim’s birthday.

Originally, we were to have the fest at chez baboon, but it seems like schedules are conflicting.

so.

We would like to get together at a restaurant this Saturday. late notice? yes. but smetimes things are better when sponateous! Carpe Dieum Dopius, says I.

So then, as this is honoring jim and manda, let us know where a good place would be.

I would like to then host the Christmas Dopefest. it’s early, yes, but you know how quickly schedules fill up around the holidays. How about getting the ball rolling and starting off with: the second saturday in December?

I’m in! Shall we meet somewhere halfway in-between to give our Tarrant county denizens a break?

BTW, Manda JO, about where do you live now?

We are on the UTD campus parking: that’s is Richardson, not too far from Campbell and 75. Midcities sounds fine, I would prefer a place that it is easy to find: I don’t know West of here at all.

I am looking forward to meeting all y’all.

Holy moly. I was sitting here one day thinking, “It would be so cool if Manda JO lived around here 'cause she’s like my hero and all.” (seriously) And whaddya know!? Wow! Welcome to the neighborhood!

Oh, and happy birthday, Lord Jim.

I’ve got company coming this weekend, though.

So this would be Saturday, September 28th (he mumbled non-commitally)?

Yes, that would be the correct date.

Ringo, last year I went all the way to Houston for my birthday party. Not saying that it’s kinda turn about, but, you know, if a bunch of Houstonites came, that would be great.

DeadlyAccurate, these aren’t exclusive gatherings, bring your company along. They are usually pretty sedate affairs, seldom have they turned into orgies.

As far as where, well, Grapevine is in the middle, but getting in anyplace here on a Saturday night could be an all night affair. Of course, I could stake out a spot in the middle of the afternoon. But the group is kinda weighted toward the NE Dallas, Richardson, Plano area so maybe slightly farther east would be better. McArthur & 635 is the next area east of here with a good selection of places.

Input, we need input.

Jim

Wow! I actually go to UTD these days. (Cohort MBA program). What about you?

My husband is in the graduate program with the school of Arts nad hummanities: I teach high school. We live here so that he can walk, and because it’s nice to be on a campus.

Well, I haven’t really talked to Mtgman about it, but we live Near Macarthur and 183, in Irving for those that aren’t familiar with the area. We have a nice sized house and it is mostly company ready. And this way we wouldn’t have to find a sitter.

We aren’t opposed to going out though. Love to get out and meet new people.

Well, it’s just possible we might dig up a Houstonite who can come wish a Dallastonian Happy Birthday. Events will develop as the week matures (out tropical friend Isadore may become a factor).

How 'bout Cañonita? It’s on MacArthur & 114 (so says Mapquest), which should be easy to find. I’d expect the food to be better now, too, since the Mi Cocina crowd took over the restaurant.

I am all for going to Canonita or to MoxMaiden’s place.

MM, if we do your place we can all do a pot luck dinner thing. That way you aren’t stuck with cooking for an army.

I will happily provide the birthday cake if one of Jim’s beloved’s isn’t already.
And if he tells me his favorite flavour.

if the cake is being provided, then i will bring a salad.

By my count so far, we have about 10 people and we just started. Getting in to a restaurant with 10 to 15 people on a Saturday night may be difficult unless we hurry up and decide and get reservations.

This might be better to move to Moxmaiden or Zyada’s house. We can order pizza or bring a barrel or two of KFC or some sort of pot luck thing.

I’m in no matter what.

Jim
PS: No gifts, this is plenty already.
[sup]PSS: Chocolate[/sup]

I’d be more than happy to bring a dish to a potluck: none of my dishes are really good, so I tend to rush to be on the soda/wine/paper plates brigade at potlucks, but I can get those like a Mofo’.

I will need directions like I am the sort of middle-class wench who thinks “DFW” is Richardson, Plano, and bits of Carrollton.

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. We’re painting miniatures this weekend. Oh, and our D&D group went to On The Border last Saturday around six and only had to wait around 20 minutes for a table (8 people). A lot of times if you call ahead, they’ll go ahead and set up for a large group and you can just walk right past everyone else.

Well, we would have to do a potluck thing since I can’t cook. Trust me, or ask Mtgman. I can bake, and do a few simple dishes- mostly desserts. Mtgman is ok with the idea of having it here, but we could still make plans to go out. How about having a vote- so that we can make plans and/or reservations.

Enters to much fanfare and applause(not so much for showing up, but more for actually remembering his password)

GO ME!

I’m my only chearing squad. I know cheering is misspelled, I just think it looks funny.

Anyway, I’ll be there. I tried calling Grace/Whatevershescallednow, but she’s ignoring me, so I’ll let her answer for herself. We should also try to talk her into bringing Mr. Grace (a.k.a. the Robin Williams of the brokerage world) to entertain us.

As for the potluck, unless somebody wants to eat something I cooked (so funny I just wet myself thinking about it), I’ll bring either cash or [insert miscellaneous product in a bag here].

See you Saturday.

YOU GO BOY!!

Put me in as a definite maybe depending on specific day and time. If we’re talking Saturday evening, I’m good to go.
