DFW Dopers looky here

Yep, gotta candy coat it.

Really people, don’t get caught on Saturday afternoon and not know how to get there. Email me. I’ll send you directions, address, phone numbers.

We want you all to come.

I don’t know what to bring. If anyone would like to make a suggestion, I’ll be happy to bring it. If I can’t make it, I’ll buy it.

Turkey legs. You can’t go wrong with turkey legs.

Well, it appears now that I will likely be coming. Not sure what to bring though, since it will be a roughly 5 hr trip (depending on how heavy my foot gets…;)). Oh, I was just informed that since BlueBear can’t make it this time, she is baking a Red Velvet cake for Jim’s birthday, and a thanks for him upgrading her puter for her. So, I guess that’s our contribution. Unless there is something else that is needed, just let me know.

I just hope that Ag doesn’t expect me to really wear that cheerleading outfit. :stuck_out_tongue:
purrplebear, looking forward to coming…

You really don’t want to eat something I’ve “prepared” in a kitchen (not so with a grill), and I’m driving in from Houston, so my contribution will be what I can find in a Dallas grocery deli (focus on finger food - how d’y’all fix fingers up noath?)

since Jim is getting a red velvet cake, I will bring something else.

not sure what just yet, but something along the lines of finger sandwiches or such.

As for my food contribution, I know this is sad, but I’ll just get whatever Grace tells me to in the store.

hangs head in shame as he shuffles out the door

Babs, it’s ok to have more than one cake with a group this size.

Yes, Babs, we will likely need more than one cake. My daughter will only be making a regular sized one. (9X12)

solution:

a bit of both!

Babs, who loves to cook

Hey, I’m back!

Did anyone happen to notice me mortally offending a drabarni at Zi’s party? Courtesy of dead proxy servers, business trips, and my ISP declaring bankruptcy, I’ve been totally offline ever since that weekend.
<Twitches violently>
I won’t be able to make the potluck, I’m afraid–I’ve got a 2-day IFGS game this weekend. I promise I’ll post the notes from the party on Monday.

Somebody eat something for me, willya? I promise to slay a troll for you in return.

Well, with everyone piping up to bring finger foods, I figure we’ll zag and provide something that isn’t too inconvenient, but will require the use of plasticware. We’re looking at providing a couple of dishes and homemade ice cream(Zia is this cool with you? We don’t mind making it, we’d just make it tonight and let it ripen in the freezer overnight.) I’ve got a Death By Vanilla type recipe that makes incredibly rich ice cream. It’s been popular in the past.

Dish #1, Beef tips, individually tenderized, lightly breaded and browned, cooked in a slow cooker until it attains a “very meaty gravy” type of texture. Imagine a stew without veggies that was cooked to the point where the meat simply fell apart in strands, but a bit thicker. This is served over noodles cooked al dente. An easy party dish because you can select the amount of noodles and beef tips you want and it’s like a hearty side dish to go along with most of the not-so-filling traditional finger foods.

Dish #2, Our own special blend of rices, mostly brown rice with some long grain, wild rice(and if we’re feeling froggy, maybe even some saffron rice) and spices mixed in. Mixed with a creamy sauce and placed in a casserole dish. Atop this lightly breaded and browned strips of chicken breast meat. Another easy party dish because it’s essentially a chicken strip(which is finger food) with a very small side of rice which holds together because of the sauce and doesn’t fall off your fork easily.

We have compartmented plates for anyone who wishes to use them to help keep their dip/other migratory foodstuffs in line.

We’ll also have various drinks. A pitcher of rasberry, herbal Iced Tea and Country Time[sup]TM[/sup] lemonade. Chilled water and Ice available upon request.

Sound good?

Enjoy,
Steven

PS BALANCE! Good to see you again, sorry about all the bad luck. We were wondering what had happened. Enjoy your game.

And I could make my new dishes. I’ve been dying to try these out:

Dish #1, Cashews, individually wrapped, lightly placed on a platter, left on a counter until it attains a “very meaty Jell-O” type of texture. Imagine a ChexMix without veggies, but with more plastic and a bit thicker. This is served over a plate warmed in the microwave. An easy party dish because you can select the amount of cashews you want and it’s like a hearty side dish to go along with most of the not-so-filling traditional finger foods.

Dish #2, My own special blend of chips, mostly potato chips with some Cheetos, Wheat Thins(and if I’m feeling froggy, maybe even some french fries) and salt mixed in. Mixed with Tostitos cheese dip and placed on a plate. Atop this some Iron Kids bread and browned strips of leftover meat from my refrigerator. Another easy party dish because it’s essentially a bachelor’s attempt at a Frito Lay caserole(which is a very messy finger food) with a very large side of beer which holds together because of the plastic rings and doesn’t fall out of your hand easily.

I just got a call from Grace who said I was the coolest person she’d ever met and that if she were a guy she would want to be just like me. She also referred to me as the ‘alpha male’, ‘beefcake’ and a ‘sizzlin’ hot piece of man meat’.

And she wanted me to tell Ziactrice that she will pick her up at 4:30. So, Ziactrice, Grace will pick you up at 4:30.

That is all.

Quite cool with me, Mtgman. Bringing something frozen in someone else’s car was fraught with possibilities of trouble; this way, I can simply bring something easily purchased in the line of finger foods.

:stuck_out_tongue: Annnnd I get to try your bragged-upon ice cream recipe! Whoo!

Thanks, Ag, for relaying that message. I’ll be ready to depart Chez Zia at 4:30 on the dot. I just have one question, why on earth does she think you’re a malted ale? grin

More plastic than Chex Mix[sup]TM[/sup]? That’s unpossible!
**

You brute! If you were truly half the man Grace thinks you are, you would NEVER buy beer held together with plastic straps. Think of the seagulls! [sub]lesbian segull…[/sub]

Enjoy,
Steven

PS Yes, I know plastic rings aren’t as big a problem as they were hyped to be. I even know Cecil did a column on it.

I’m still trying to decide what to bring. Ideas?

Guys, I really, really hate having to post tihs.

To make a long story short, my husband’s mother died Friday afternoon. We are going to have to leave tomorrow around noon to drive to Alabama for the funeral and to help with the practical aspect of things. We both really hate that this means we are going to have to miss the party–it was something we were both looking forward to. I’m sure that we will have other chances, and I look forward to the day when I can finally meet some dopers.

Manda JO

:frowning:

I’m so sorry Manda JO. We’ll miss you, but we really understand why you won’t be there. My heart goes out to you and your husband.
