DFW Dopers: My Birthday is Next Week

I read that as “DWF” and figured, “A party full of divorced white females? Sign me up!” Then I read it again. Too far to travel, but NOT too far to send an early “Happy Bidet!”

Wow, Max, I would never have figured you for being a divorced white female.

Especially one that repeats herself.

wink

Bad Cheffie. Well it looks like it’s this Friday at 7:30 p.m. I’ve talked to Aglarond and both of us will be in attendance.

To Zyada: You know, the boy eats off my plate and I RSVP for the two of us. No wonder you made that comment at Red, Hot, and Blue. We really need to find that guy a woman. I’ve already got a hubby to take care of.

Cheffie - I forgot to tell you. I’m on a reduced-fat diet (not by choice either). You don’t have to make anything special for me, but if you’re cooking something really rich coughgreasycough you could have some bread for me to fill up on and don’t be hurt if I don’t eat that much.

After further discussion with Ziactrice, we’ll be having nibbles rather than a full dinner, along with a cake (nay, a scratch cake) courtesy of Grace. Zyada, I’ll make sure there’s something that won’t tie your gall bladder in a sheepshank.

Heh. Part of my problem is that I refuse to eat food I don’t like, or completely avoid foods that I do like. Fortunately, it’s not hard at all to cook with less fat that restaurants use.

I guess I’m a martyr to my tastebuds.

Okay, my current plan calls for an assortment of dips, accompanied by assorted things to dip into them. Here’s the tentative lineup:

Dips:
[ul][li]Cheffie’s special queso (ooh, you’re going to love it)[/li][li]Guacamole, depending on the price of avocados[/li][li]Cheffie’s even more special roasted red bell pepper and sun-dried tomato dip (this one will be low-fat, Zyada)[/li][li]Probably some sort of onion dip for the traditionalists[/li][li]Maybe some sort of crab dip[/ul][/li]
Things to dunk in the dips:
[ul][li]veggie stix[/li][li]tortilla chips[/li][li]potato chips[/li][li]bagel chips[/li][li]Crackers[/ul][/li]
As you can see, this is not going to break the bank the way the gumbo party did, so there will be no need for any sort of monetary contributions. Grace has kindly volunteered to make a cake (from scratch!); if anyone just wants to bring something, let me know and I’ll assign you something - but there’s no need to, I can handle it.

Does anyone have a copy of that game, Taboo? It’s the one where you have to get your team to say a word without yourself using any of the words that would be most likely to get them to guess. It’s a lot of fun.

My co-worker has the game. I could ask to borrow it. I think I have a movie trivia game if anyone wants me to bring that.

:frowning: :o Ahem.

Is there still a need to write an invitation? I’ll be happy to do so…

"We’re having another Dopefest, folks. It shall be at Chef Troy’s home, because he was kind enough to volunteer to host a birthday party for me when my current work schedule madness guaranteed I couldn’t prepare my own abode in suitable fashion.

The festivities begin at 7:30 PM, and continue far into the night (or at least past 10:00 PM, since we have to make sure Mrs. Chef doesn’t miss out. Featured activities are planned to include:
[ul]
[li]watching Chef Troy demonstrate his divine omipotentness at Pictionary[/li][li]watching Yours Truly demonstrate divine comedy at Slightly Tipsy Pictionary[/li][li]semi-nude Twister (semi-ness being an individual decision)! ;)[/li][li]chips and dips straight from the wonderful kitchen of the famed Chef Troy[/li][li]libations of fru-fru sorts, and whatever beer you want to bring along[/li][li]perhaps Taboo, or any other embarrassing, hilarious, or just plain messed-up party game you want to bring along to torment your fellow DFW Dopers[/li][li]as misread and advertised, Yours Truly is indeed, a Divorced, White Female - so if that is what makes the party for you, be sure and come along[/li][/ul]

Drop an email back to Zyada, Chef Troy, and/or Yours Truly, so that our Very Kind host has a notion of the number that shall be present to devour his epicurean offerings, pretty please?

Oh, and no presents. Your attendance is your gift, naturally.

Nicely done, Z!

You bring up an important point - I would like to get some sort of headcount. Here’s what I make it so far, based on this thread:

Confirmed as coming:
Ziactrice, our Guest of Honor
Chef Troy, our Esteemed Host
Mrs. Chef, our Gracious Hostess(late)
Chef Jr, who will probably spend the evening playing video games in my office
Grace, and her “husband” Aglarond
Zyada and the Gall Bladder from Hell
LordJim, having scented beer in the wind

Confirmed as having expressed interest but not actually committed yet to showing up:
Purrplebear, who will go a long way for a party
Bad News Baboon, who may or may not belt out “Feelings” on my karaoke machine if enough people call her “Babs”

Confirmed as making snarky comments but not actually even expressing interest in the party so far:
MTGman, and by extension Moxmaiden and the **MTG/Mox-lings

Snark!

Still cultivating that air of mystery, eh, Mtgman?

By the way, someone needs to tell Balance and psiekier

And what ever happened to Kookalouris?

There are so few mysteries left in the world. I feel compelled to help make the world a more interesting place whenever possible.
Seriously though, I’m not sure we can commit either way. We’ve got a ton of stuff going on that weekend, birthday party for the boy(his birthday was yesterday, the 23rd) and my mom’s birthday is tomorrow, the 26th. We’re going to have a family get-together to celebrate both on Saturday at my sister’s place so we can have a pool party. The problem with that is that to avoid the heat we’re having it in the morning Saturday, probably ending around 1PM. Sleeping late and coming “fashionably” late isn’t an option, so late-night activities the night before are a risky proposition. My sister and brother-in-law are coming in from Hawaii and we get to see them maybe once a year, and we’re bringing critical food infrastructure to the gathering Saturday. If Melissa(sometimes known as Moxmaiden) feels up to having the kids out late Friday and rousing us all early Saturday then I’ve got no problems with it, but she’s the early-riser in the family and the burden would really fall on her.

On the other hand we’d really like to get together with all you guys again. Sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun(except for the twister and Karaoke thing at least. Hate Karaoke :p). I’ll pose the question to the little woman and see how she feels about it.

Steven

I’ll only get out the karaoke machine if people request it.

I am NOT one to foist my alternative lifestyle on people if they aren’t prepared to handle it.

Did anyone but me get the email? I sent it out yesterday, so it won’t have Ziatrice’s elegant wording on it.

I got it.

By the way, Zy, do you want to ride over together?

Rats.

No, Cheffie’s too good a cook to serve rats.

Jim - let me get with you on that. That might work, but I might want to leave fairly early too.

It seems I have to correct some comments in this thread.

First, Chef said that “by extension” I made “snarky” comments and showed no interest.

Well, just because my “husband” makes “snarky” comments does not mean I share his opinions. (what’s with all of these quotation marks?)

Second, Mtgman called me “the little woman”.

Now, I have a problem in that I don’t know if I should be mad at him for calling me that or if I should kiss him. Hmmmmm? What to do? I don’t think anyone has ever called me little before, and I am not sure what exactly he meant. This requires further investigation.

As for the party, YES, we are interested. We just need to see if we can find a sitter for the kids. I think we would have more fun without having to keep them from tearing down the Chateau de Chef. However, we will have to bring our newest expansion to the party, since she is only 2 months old. Hopefully, she will sleep through the party and we can have fun, if not we can play Pass the Baby which is some what like hot potato except that you are out if the baby spits up on you.

I wondered if that “the little woman” comment was going to get by.
