Yes, that is exactly what we agreed, for the time. I figure that way everyone, including those Dopers with children, will have plenty of time to enjoy the celebration but still get home at a decent bedtime.
Of course, those who want to remain and party into the wee hours of the morning are also welcome, but please remember the hostess has two spare bedrooms. I would much rather have an overnight guest than wake up to find a friend had wrapped themselves around a post enroute home (from tiredness and a long drive, or by reason of enjoying the party). Bring your sleeping bag, as I only have one, and I’ll have crash space for those who would like to use it. I’ve been the only one I’ve seen take advantage of this sort of thing, but at least I’m willing to practice what I preach, right?
I think we have two cakes offered, so far, one by Bad News Baboon and one by Mrs. Chef. Lordjim is bringing liquid refreshment, and also helping me provide some protein and propane towards the feast on the grill side. I am going to bake banana bread, because Grace likes it. The rest of the field is entirely open, so you can bring whatever home-cooking or store-bought you’d like to munch on and share. Sodas for the kids, maybe? Pasta? Some lime jello (another Grace favorite food)?
Some brave soul could even try the Flaming Elvis recipe. I’m not that brave… :eek:
Decent bedtime? On a weekend? I know what each word means, but that makes no sense.
I’ll have to check the calendar to see how a 3 o’clock start time works for us, we may not be albe to be there until a bit later. Moxmaiden has a meeting that morning and our first expansion is due to work Girl Scout cookie sales(booth sales, pay and get the cookies immediately… Hmm, that might work out for any dopers who want Girl Scout cookies. Drop me an email if you want some and we’ll get them that morning and deliver/collect for them at the party, three bucks a box) that morning as well. We’ll bring some food or we’ll bring some cash, hostesses choice.
For money matters, you can talk to my co-host, Lord Jim, who is graciously handling that end of things since I’m still not quite keeping myself afloat, financially. My cleaning business is developing nicely, but not quite that far along yet.
I’m just providing the locale, whatever cooking equipment the weather dictates, audio-visual equipment, and a few surprises for merriment’s sake at the party.
Ag was almost there a week early. He called on Friday night to ask me what time the party was the next day. I should’ve made up a time and sent him over to Z’s house just for fun.
Ummm, not so he and Z could have fun. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’m sure they could have lots of fun.
Menu planning:
I’ll provide the beer and Smirnoff Ice. Hopefully I’ll bring enough, if not there is a store a few blocks away. So, don’t bring beer unless you want something in particular.
I’ll make BBQ brats and I have some big fat franks. I’ll bring burgers which we will grill unless the weather is really bad, in which case we’ll broil them or something.
We’ll have buns, condiments, that sort of things.
Plus we have a cake or two and other desert type dishes.
